Safest airline is Finnair or Qantas ?
I think people need to get a grip - the difference in "safety" between say Finnair and any other European or N American airline is in real terms miniscule. You are in far more danger every time you cross the road or drive your car

Your chances of accident are roughly the same as they were in the USA and Europe in say the 1960's. If this frightens or worries you DON'T GO.

For example QF total airframes and operational sectors are miniscule compared with say Ryanair in Europe with over 400 aircraft operating safely to many lesser equipped Regional airports. EASA training and crew regulation are equal to CASA. And Ryanair haven’t had a fatal in jet operation either, one of the seeming qualifications for his top spot.

One thing this thread illustrates is what a useless word "safe" is, "safe/safety" is a perception.
Grandma looking from the kitchen window at grandson poking the Bull Mastiff in the eye with a stick has a completely different concept of safe than said grandson.
We should all be talking about risk, which can be measured, and risk management.
I know it is trite to say it, but: "If you can't measure it, you can't manage it".
Safe is a dimensionless and largely emotive term, for management purposes (but not propaganda and spin --- because every sentient member of the public believes they know "what is safe") lets talk rationally about risk.

It was not the fault of the pilots, the airline or Boeing, because this accident could have happened to any pilot in any airline flying any modern glass cockpit airliner — Airbus, Boeing or Bombardier — or a large corporate jet with autothrottle.

Who could have the inside knowledge to come to those conclusions globally? Certainly not any armchair web-dataminers.
