Bellsux:- I note you're in Oz. Although we haven't yet got the dual sensor version, we do have the first High Def Cineflex V14 currently in Australia and I'm fairly sure most parameters (regarding size, weight etc) are the same.
PM me if you want to have a play with it while it's here. It has to go to Europe at the end of the year but it will then be back in Melbourne for the Commonwealth Games in March.
I'm loving it to bits - rekindled my enthusiasm for gymbals!
Cheers

I'm interested in your comment about the FLIR HD system being deeper... Do you mean longer focal length of the lense? FYI both the competing HD systems available (FLIR HD and Cineflex V14) have the same lense - Fuji 42x (1140mm on the 2x). What type of mount do you use to put the FLIR HD on an AS350? and do you use an isolation mount?
HD gives the viewer the most un believable definition and depth of colours, if you have the cash to by an HD camera then a coupe more grand to get the viewing kit is not significant.
My understanding of the difference between the FLIR HD and the Cinelfex is that John Coyle (Cineflex) caters to your requirements; camera and lens options for different missions. ie Sony 930 for survellance/low light situations combined with the 42x Fuji or production/movie work he wil build you one with a Sony F950 and interchangeable lense package for a choice of wide angel to mid range lenses. I don't think FLIR give any options for the HD product.
I suppose it's the old David and Goliath deal... Start up Cineflex competes with the $2 billion company FLIR.
JerryG,
Interested in you comments about the Cineflex, what's the mission?? How long have you had the system and is John Coyle supporting the product (something I hear FLIR have problems with!!!)

sling: your way over my head now. the way it was told to me is the UMHD had a further reach. which lens was in use, cannot be sure of. i agree that i'm sure whatever FSI comes out with, john will counter with and vica versa.
as for our mounts, same for both cameras, they need the long single pole mount to get the ground clearance necessary. both cameras use the same isolator, just a different hole pattern on top where the camera interfaces with the isolator. both camera's perform best with an isolator.
with regards to specifics on the FSI system, the contact at FSI on media camera's is larry krieg.

I guess that's a Cinflex mounted on the Fox ENG heli on the Pprune November calender.. Interested to know if any of the operators of that aircraft could provide feedback on the system.
Jerry's new toy mounted on my old toy Very, very impressive, very stable, long lens, terrific colour quality. Look at the image on the monitor, the building is somewhere around 6nm miles away
I guess this is the point where fans of wescam/FLIR/Taman/etc etc each pop in with their respective toys to undertake cheap advertising?
And of course the power cart lost out as its manufacturers label was not facing the camera....

sirs: thats our mount / vibro isolator on both the fox 350 and the jet ranger. mounts are manufactured by one of our partners, Airfilm and sold through Meeker Aviation. we have adaptors to fit all the most common camera's.
currently we have, star safire, mx-15. cineflex, UMII / III and UMHD flying on the nose mount for the bell mount.

John:- Thanks for the pix.
PANews:- No axe to grind from my end mate, I'm just a happy customer sharing facts with Bellsux who asked! (Is it some sort of requirement that every thread on this site has to include a token cynic?)
Chopperdr:- Thanks for the mount/isolator. As John illustrates, we've just discovered it works a treat on a 206 as well as the 350 and 120.
Sling:- Yes I think it is a Cineflex on the calendar.
Sling:- Mission is general film and TV work, mostly sports. Only took delivery in September, used it over New Orleans for two weeks, then California for a week. Currently filming commercials in Australia. John Coyle has been a gem and answers emails straight back to us - After 30 years of looking for a product that does the job and gets the support from the manufacturer I think I might have finally found one!
Cheers

the cineflex is a fine camera. however i'm thinking bellsux is looking more along the lines of IR. keep in mind the HD camera's are only as good as long as your system is HD.
FLIR UMHD is deeper yet.
FLIR UMHD is deeper yet.
Fuji makes the longest lightweight category lenses, two versions of the 42x HD lens the
HA42X13.5 ERD and HA42x9.5 ERD
The FLIRHD is fitted with the former according to the website and the man at the stand.
The V14 can accept either of these lenses (as well as many other lenses)
A popular lens choice for TV production in the V14 is the 22x, so perhaps comparisons are being made between the UMHD with 42x and a V14 fitted with the 22x?
In respect to FLIRs IR/Thermal "HD" kit, just like the first use of the term (in the 1940s!)
"HD" is being used to describe (improved) resolution of its IR/thermal sensors.
But compared to a HD broadcast camera the resolution is low res!
The term HD can be legally used to describe a image of any resolution.

I will readily put my hands up to the 'token cynic' jibe.
I just noted that [before it was merged] this Bellsux thread started up as a request for few pointers on some kit for a Agusta 109.... it seemed early on that the subject was small stuff/FLIR but then all of a sudden we get an avalanche of Broadcast Quality kit being mentioned by name with all the super peeper lenses being wheeled out....
I may be mistaken, but I am not aware of any float equipped A109 being used to carry broadcast quality logshot lense cameras [and the lenses for the whole industry are interchangable anyway - mostly made in the same few factories].
This assessment is of course underminded by the merging of the whole into a more general thread.
Cynic yes...
So who did make the power cart?

Bryn,
Cynicism aside, the issue of floats on the A109 was raised simply because the float brackets are the normal way of attaching FLIR/Nitesun/etc on a 109.
Cynicism aside, I'll try to label my battery cart for the next time it stars on PPRuNe

OK, I have put my avioncs guy on to this to get the best camera for what we need to use it for. I never said anything about broadcast quality etc, just need to stick a lightweight FLIR system onto my A109 that has the float kit.
