Thumbs up Newcatle Regional Heliport NSW Pic Update

This give an aerial view of the site as of 2 weeks ago, Tommorow is the start of major earthworks to complete stormwater drainage, installation of underground tanks, landing pads, carparking and landscaping, estimated time for completion 9-10 weeks. Since this Photo was taken the hangar door has been installed. The large structure is the Hangar with the smaller roof being the office and reception lounge.

Just to the bottom out of the photo is the Hunter river which will be the app/dep flight paths. There will also be a FATO with helipad lighting for night ops. There are no ristrictions on aircraft types that can be operated and there is a 7 day a week 0600 to 2200 curfew excluding emergency ops. I will keep you all posted

cheers

Trimpot,

Its intended for use is for our charter company, hangar space for private owners etc, however transiting helos are welcome to dropoff pax, ie visiting machines from Sydney.

A good result for the industry seeing its been 5 years in the making!!

Sorry Belly Tank, I don't mean to offend. But it's not like Newcastle is a thriving hub of helicopter activity. Westpac won't land there, CHC won't land there, maybe Marine (or whoever is doing the marine pilot transfers) is going to use it, but apart from that, who else is going to? There is already another helipad in town (Carrington) and one at the hospital?

p.s I don't see what good it's doing the industry, regardless of how long its taken Newcastle's troglodyte council to approve it.

If, as you say it, the curfew is 0600 to 2200, you won't get many people there at all! But if it was 2200 to 0600, it makes more sense.

And there can never be too many heliports. You can never tell when some councillor will have a development plan for the foreshore or the footy stadium and there goes the rescue pad or the commercial pad.

A heliport in Northern Sydney? Don't hold your breath.

Isn't Newcastle part of Northern Syndey now?

A heli pad can only enhance the availability of helicopter transport in the area. Maybe Newcastle isn't "a thriving hub of helicopter activity" but wouldn't a purpose built heli pad attract those wishing to commute from the Hunter Valley into Sydney?

Count me in! I'll be using it ... glad to see this initiative proceed, when elsewhere in Australia heliports are receiving no assistance at all.

Thanks guys for those who have lended a supporting hand!!...the facility as stated will be complete or scheduled to be complete now in about 9-10 weeks, given no delays and beleive you me there have been some!!

When the heliport was approved by council initially, they stated that when complete, this facility will be the only available heliport in the city apart from westpac and Marine which provide specific roles. read what you like into that, they wanted a facility to be close to the city CBD, yet far enough away from a residential area to cause concern.

This land and facility is owned by the operator so there is no chance of it being taken back by the council as we have seen with other heliports in the area previously.

Anyway for the sceptics out there, 1. see what the facility is doing in 12-18 months time. 2. be pleased that someone is willing to put their $$$ on the line to get better facilitys for this industry.

thank you

Congratulations!

I know how hard it has been to get this going. Many other people are beavering away on HLS which will make our industry more accessible. Newcastle will become a centre for tourist flights, the tourist people are saying how Newcastle is doing well making the transition from heavy industry to people things. Well done guys! You deserve a pat on the back! Anyone who can beat the government stumbling blocks needs a medal and a good glass of Hunter Valley wine!

Anybody who expcts to be able to use a privately-built heliport without paying a landing fee is dreaming.

It costs enormous amounts of money and time and effort to jump through the regulatory hoops and establish a heliport. To recoup the costs via landing fees is unrealistic, you would need to charge $1000 per landing. But a fee of $50 will help offset the administrative costs of the paperwork to be filled out, the public liability insurance, the meet-and-greet person, the coffee, the cleaner to keep the public areas and toilets clean (often it's the Chief Pilot who ends up doing all this) and so on.

Good on you Belly Tank, for having a go.

Thankyou A-Charlie,

There will be a fee $50 per landing which i think is reasonable for now. your right the C.P does end up doing the cleaning!! and thats not limited to the hangar floor!!...It has cost a lot of time and MONEY to get this going but the benefits we hope will outweigh that to provide better facilitys for our industry as a whole.

Anyway i hope this facility will be well received by operators and Ascend Charlie i will be looking forward to the day you drop in with that lovely 76!

cheers
