Would anyone who has received the reference check stage email care to share how long it took to hear back as to wether or not they were successful? Thanks

Dash8capt -are you talking about the ATR?

I know four guys that have been waiting about five weeks since receiving the email if you're talking about VARA.

Previously it has only been a couple of weeks, but as mentioned in my previous post it seems to have blown out recently. I reckon they're concentrating on replacing the chief pilot and some other senior staff first. Other successful interviewees are in the same boat as you, so try not to stress too much.

Very vague question.

No psych at Virgin

Sim and interview same day.

Assessed afterwards.

Sim normally first, instructor tells interviewers how you went. Interviewers (2, 3 or 4) have to come to a mutual yes or no before they leave the interview room. Then all going well goes to final assessment!

Yeah no worries.

No Psych assessment at Virgin or VARA.

If the interviewers mutually agree yes, and the sim instructor says yes then it gets reviewed against other candidates including reference checks etc.

That is for mainline Virgin. I cant speak for VARA and the ATR.

They are interviewing pretty solidly for the ATR but its still done as it was when it was skywest, ie skywest HR, skywest pilots assessing sims etc. This is completely different to the Virgin one, ie different questions, different sim.

As for getting an Interview with Virgin Mainline, I would take a guess that they will not interview pilots again for at least 18 months, if not longer.

It looks more and more like it may end up the same as the Qantas / Jetstar relationship. Virgin will stay fairly stagnant and consolidate what they have, tiger will grow with demand.

This is speculation but I cant see it being any different really.

All the best

Has anyone who received the referee check email from VARA been unsuccessful? What kind of time frame have applicants experienced from receiving the reference check email until hearing back about a result? Thanks in advance

Gone

Yep still quiet a few of us are still waiting....Word is we should get an update letter in the next few weeks, however the situation remains unchanged for at least the remainder of the year. Rumour has it quiet a few of the cruisers have had some issues with their domestic line training (understandably), so there may be some opportunities for spots either on the 777 or ejet.

Rumour also has it that Virgin may be purchasing some more e-jets in the future, although no annoucement has been made.

So in essence I believe things will turn again but if looking for a massive movement in the next few months-6 months I don't think this will happen. I suspect it will more than likely be a trickle and Tiger the more expandable.

Any Updates

Hey All

I have been out of the loop for a while but has anyone contacted Virgin HR recently to know what the latest is on training courses in the near future?

Cheers

Emails don't do any good. I rang them at the end of Sep with about 6 questions, they picked up first time and we chatted for about 10 minutes, it was all very open and honest. Unfortunately most of my questions went unanswered which they were sincerely apologetic for. I had a suspicion they wouldn't be able to elaborate on too much but it was nice to hear from them that they haven't forgotten about us! It wasn't their fault they couldn't tell me anything, because at this stage they have nothing to tell!!

Hr as always are the middle men, and in this case they are waiting until management give the nod to hire more crew.

One of my questions was "will the hold file get scrapped due to elapsed time" the answer was 'although we don't wish this to happen, we would like to find places for everyone before it potentially comes to this, but it's not something we can rule out'
Which is disappointing but fair enough, given jq and qf hold files expire after 12 months!!

I think they will find that once the approval comes and things start to move a little bit, that half the people on hold would have taken jobs elsewhere and have to decline the offer. In that case they will start at the top of the list and work down.

Hi digaf,
Hopefully we get an email this week or next.
I'd say this (almost 2 year) wait has been the hardest thing I've ever done in my career, and it's not like I/we are having to do anything - Except just wait!

Most of those waiting are on turboprops now so a move sideways doesn't really appeal. It's frustrating but that's how it goes unfortunately.

Some of us don't want to move from one turboprop job to another one. What is the point
