Yes that's right, if we wanted to move sidewards we would have all done it by now, seeings it nearly been two years

I know a few guys that were still in GA that were on hold for VAI that have since taken up positions with Vara and similar, which I think is a good move and a move that I would have done in their position.

Of all the people that I have heard are on hold, 75% of them have have moved on to other ventures....Jetstar, VARA, Tiger, Cobham amongst others.
Like I mentioned in a previous post Virgin might get a shock when they start making phone calls down the hold list, I would say there will be a few that get crossed off!!

On that note, a good mate of mine (someone who doesn't normally make up tales) rang me last week and said one of his colleagues received an invitation for a virgin mainline interview. I first said nahhhhh that can't be right, are you sure it's not Vara, he said his mate showed him and confirmed the email said e190, 737 or 777.

A good rumour which I have been trying all weekend to confirm. It will be interesting to find out if this is true!?

I'd be very surprised if it was, but who knows. I'm still trying to figure out if we haven't received an email because a.) there is something in the works or, b.) there is no one to send the email!!!! I mean, if it was so simple and clear cut why not just send one already!

To be absolutely fair to Virgin, I was told in my interview that the wait would likely be 12-18 months from acceptance and we are just coming up on 18 months now.

Work off 2-3% growth a year and you won't be too far off I'd say. Some years 0 and some 3.

Why join to go to a turbo prop? To get a job in the group that will have rights to transfer anywhere with in the business bar Tiger (unlike QF).

Choose what you want from a lifestyle perspective and you can't go too far wrong. If you want the quickest route to a jet command look elsewhere.

I heard a very similar story recently from within VA, although it was 2nd or 3rd hand.

I see an Email from emirates recruitment today. It looks as though they are preparing for a large scale recruitment drive... Which may cause some movement. Hopefully!

From Virgin? Quite a few guys have done the post Emirates tour back to Virgin. VAI at least. OZ basings would stir the pot if that ever came to pass.

I guess grasses are always greener though!

Anyone know Virgins plans when they realise the hold file isn't quite as big as they thought? I personally know of 4 blokes who are on hold but have since moved on and are yet (if ever) to tell virgin. If history is anything to go by there may be a recruiting frenzie once tho hold file moves...

" I like your optimism"

word from HR's mouth last week:

"There is still a substantial number of applicants who are on the hold file".

This may or may not mean that they have advised Virgin they have found a job elsewhere. I would imagine most will keep their hold file position even with a new job and make the decision if and when Virgin contacts the respective applicants.

Not as yet. They have just got a new person in the role who is really on good to work with. I believe HR will release a letter update in the next week or so.

If you join Virgin now don't expect to see a command on anything more than an e jet for a long time. And probably forget about a widebody command if you are over 30.

I predict an email very shortly saying.... "Our position has not changed. We do not expect any recruitment for the foreseeable future. We wish you and your family a safe and happy festive season."

True. Also, if you enter the company as a Second Officer expect 3-5 yr minimum until you see an Ejet.

Duxnutz, I think 3 years would be a fair estimate.

I know QF FO's that have been in the right seat for over 10 years on 73's and we're talking good guys, not your snotty nosed sausage factory kids. Many head off for greener pastures, overseas, unpaid leave or FO international instead.

I did notice in the SMH this morning that the $350m capital raising was approved. Perhaps this will cause some growth?

Yeah i suspect it will... but from what the Virgin CEO was saying, the growth will be in Tigerair...

Goodluck!

Received a Hold File update email yesterday….I've been on the 777 hold for 2 years now and looks like it will go on for a while yet….

'This is a courtesy email to advise you of some updates to Flight Crew recruitment at Virgin Australia. At present, we do not have confirmation of future courses on our International Fleet. We do not anticipate any confirmed courses for the foreseeable future.'

Cheers

PA

Disappointing email, no new info at all. Basically a copy and paste of the last email.
