This (older article now) will provide some guidance for those still on the never ending hold file
The deliveries between 2013-2016 don't even include the new 737max.

I think, with this in mind, it makes good sense for the company to have many people already interviewed, ready to pluck whenever they need them

Bit annoying but it really just confirms what everyone already thought. I still reckon new fin year will shed more light, and with 26-28 cruisers heading to domestic per year I can't see too many people being left on the hold file by the end of the year!! What I do suspect will happen is that those left on the domestic hold file will once again get offered a position on the international hold file, with no more opportunity to go directly into domestic. (International or Vanz the only way into Virgin Australia). Hopefully not the case but looking more and more likely.

You guys are also failing to consider the Skywest/Virgin Regional deal gives them access to a pilot group in the coming years that are already familiar with how the company operates (and the company is familiar with them). I'm not saying it will happen in the short term, or that existing Virgin Regional guys will be part of any current VA seniority list, but I bet it (internal recruitment) eventually happens to some extent.

I've just noticed as well that the Careers link on the Skywest webpage now redirects to the Virgin Careers page. So with VA's acquisition of Skywest, does that mean Virgin now will operate the ATRs outright, and not through a wetlease arrangement as before? Which brings another interesting twist, as mentioned before, that when you apply for a job with VA, will you most likely start at the bottom on the ATR rather than on a jet?

If cadets will be able to go from the ATR to jets without any issues in the next five years, I'd expect similar opportunities for others. But then again, it could end up like the Qlink/mainline relationship (or lack thereof!).

I'm trying to figure out why they bothered to mention the FO jobs in the regional sector. I've brought it down to 2 reasons.
1. so it won't be such a surprise when, in a couple of months, they offer us FO jobs on a turboprop
Or
2. To encourage us to apply for the FO turbo prop job, to reduce the mainline hold file.
Thoughts??

I think more for the reason that seeing Skywest is now part of Virgin that any recruitment opportunities are required to be advertised. I believe this is nothing more than an advertisement.
Regarding the transfer from ATRs I believe FTS is correct that whilst nothing is written in the current (fresh) EBA, in a few years come the next EBA those guys will be pushing for a clause that transfers be made available. We shall see!

No one knows what the future will bring at the moment, the ink has barely settled on the transaction and there seems to have been no discussion about the intergration of the ex SkyWest pilots to Virgin. It may continue to operate totally separate, or may be like the old Ansett days where the entry level started as a Turboprop F/O and moved your way up from there. Point is no one knows, sky hasn't fallen in!
If it does you have a choice, except it or withdraw your application and wait for Qantas perhaps, or go to Jetstar. 2drive do you think the airlines care about the size of their hold file?

My money's on two separate entities, something like "...... operated by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines - a wholly owned subsidiary of Virgin Australia".
Same as Qantaslink.
How/whether career opportunities eventuate within the whole group will be up to the company. They could do a Qantas and actively exclude the vast majority of their regional pilots, but then again they might not. Nonetheless, I suspect part of the consideration will be based on how the imminent (former) Skwest EBA pans out.
The rest? Who knows.

The Skywest mention in the email was more of a courtesy, the last line in the paragraph immediately before it says something along the lines of 'however your position on the hold file remains unchanged'
From what I've heard Skywest are finding it hard to find crew, (potentially upgradable crew down the track) so much so that they are telling candidates during interviews to tell their mates to get their app in if they haven't already!
Think about it this way - Management get their heads together, Skywest says 'we are finding it hard to get (good) crew' - virgin says 'we have 30 pilots on hold, who have been successful at our sim and interview, most of whom are experienced regional drivers who would in a short space of time be eligible for an Atr command, maybe in our next hold file update we may throw it out there to tempt a few to go across! Win win, Vara gets some quality pilots apply, Virgins hold file becomes slightly more manageable!
Going back to the courtesy part of it- Virgin CP, fleet managers are saying we need crew, we have had these people on the hold file for up to 18 months, surely in their heart, and at meetings with COO, CFO are going...c'mon guys these people have been sitting around, we need crew...the response being, we can't allocate the money to crew at this stage...as a courtesy cp, fleet managers etc have prob said to HR just mention that Skywest is an option, to make people feel we haven't forgotten about their career interest with the company...plus it helps Skywest out as previously mentioned.
Take you back to the last Ejet course prior to this round of interviews and offers...candidates on hold who had interviewed around July 2011 got a very similar email to the recent one that was sent out, 3 months later they are on a ground school, which none of them saw coming!!

If that was to happen you would want to be on the VA list and seconded to XR.
If you get put on the XR list and it would be at the bottom you may never end up in the job you applied for and were successful at achieving.
