Quote............Either you're good enough or not, and if it went really badly maybe the so-called unprofessional behavior from the Eagle captains was warranted..........................WOW

SON!! (and I say that in a heavy voice).....the word should have been UN-warranted......you are obviously new to this profession and after personally being through 20+ interviews, half with the majors...(you know, the big guys, big planes )......let me tell you something.....IT AINT WARRANTED!!!!!

I've heard of exactly the same sh*t happening on other occasions during Eagle interviews. (excuse me while I prostrate myself before their graven image).........................................We're not worthy, clearly.

Right. where was I? Seems you need some luck (and probably a fair bit of lick) to get in with that crowd. Surely after any interview you would have some idea how it went? Not so with eGAle. I know of a case where the candidate was ripped to shreds all day and told how **** he was only to be offered a job. He was one very confused guy. Took a while to sink in. Tell me in what other profession is this interview technique OK? Except maybe the SAS basic training...But SAS they ain't.

Basically these twits fly the smallest, crappiest, piece of equipment with a blue/green tail and they somehow think they have to make up for it by being hard on people and making them think that it is some kind of Space shuttle, and they have to be general Yeager just to have a crack at it. Bullsh1t.
By the sounds of it they have a fairly high failure rate for type ratings and upgrades etc, Instead of them taking a look at their own organisation and thinking... Perhaps we have got it wrong... Maybe our training is not as good as it could be, maybe our standards are unrealistic...They think it cant be us...it must just be the pilots... we must make it harder!!! Our training is top notch were are legends flying the most sphositcated piece of space junk in the galaxy!!!
The comments that were made to those people were unproffesional, uncalled for and shows how immature, thick, and small minded the people were that were making them. I could understand if perhaps one or two of the people were not so flash, but all six?? Come on?
At larger more proffesional organisations a simple letter stating "Due to the high standards of applicants... blah blah etc etc" is all that is required to tell someone that they did not make the grade, not a public beratting.

Why is it that all these people that supposedly shouldn't have instrument ratings will probably get into Air NSN and pass the training with no probs, oh maybee it has something to do with proffesionalisim...
Anybody want to give a little hint of a few names, just to put away for later...

Well i'm glad i not the only one who thought this whole eagle selection process was crap!

Was talking to some Eagle guys (there are a lot of good bastards at Eagle) at work recently, and they said that approx 80% of command upgrades are failing first time, and that there is a very high failure rate with checks in general something like 50%, is this true? If it is then they need to look at there check and training system. Most other airlines on average have a 6% failure rate so i'm told (I know this is the case for Air Nelson)

The thing that pisses me off the most is not just the interview process itself, but the fact that they told the candidates that they don't deserve an instrument rating! I've heard of worse things being said on interviews and ground courses at Eagle as well. Who are these nasty people at Eagle? Get rid of them immediately!

Being a pilot still in the GA scene, and looking at moving into the airlines in a few years. I am horrified at what has been written here!!

If I PAID my airfare to Hamilton, and then PAID my accomodation for a WEEK, then PAID for my own transfers to whatever hangar Eagle do these interviews in, then be told something like this. I think I would tell them where they could stick their cr@ppy @rsed B1900s and walk out and fly home. There is no way in hell I would want to fly for some organisation like this.

Any way.. Eagle would be a step down in pay for me, and I'd get to fly an aircraft with 4 or 5 more pax and another pilot. Why would I bother in the first place??

Not going defend/attack but 3 points to consider....

1) There are two sides to any story.

2) The bitching over the interview proccess ALWAYS comes from those who were previously unsuccessfull OR never got an interview having tried, Or join the few who never went through the interview so can only go by what others have told them / seen written on here but not those within.

3) There are 31 posts so far, 10 interviewies max. How many of us were actaully there?

Too all those who had to eat the Eagle sh@t sandwich keep your chin up. Some of the captains at Air Nsn failed eagle interviews and it was the best thing that happened to them. One day you will be in a crew room somewhere and will realise what huge favour those interviewers did for you.

Anyone who gets thrown in the 1900 (or any other type they are unfamilar with for that matter) is going to struggle to fly at a level close to someone who is checked and current on that type. This MUST be taken into the consideration of the check pilots carrying out the exercise, and from what has been said in the post this is not the case!

I could understand if Eagle gave theses fullas a very thorough briefing (standard sim briefs are 1.5 hours) and then asked them to carry out some simple IF manouvers, in order to assess their competency and situational awareness. What I cannot understand is the reasoning behind putting these guys in an overloaded and unfamilar work environment, and then critising them for their performance, or should I say lack of. What do they expect? Its no wonder they were unable to fly the aircraft to an IR standard..... They havnt done the 30 hours sim training? They havnt done the 100 hours line training? Nor a ground course or a flight test! It peeves me off that stupid incidences like this still occur at Eagle..........

I really enjoyed my time at Eagle, flying a 1900 around New Zealand. What I didnt enjoy is the fact that most people live in fear of an upcoming interivew or annual check with Eagle becuase of these isolated incidences.

Another thing I could never understand was the high failure rates, as mentioned in this post. I dont know what the companies reasoning is behind this method, all I know is that it does nothing for a pilots confidence or improving their flying. There are times when a failure of a check is required but how can u justify 70-80% of people within the company failing? These arnt made up numbers, however hard it is to believe they are real!...... Surely the CAA should get involved if a company has such high rates of failure? Something is not right, and I am 99% sure that its got nothing to do with the level of pilot competency within Eagle, you just need to look at the sucess of Ex-Eagle drivers. Once again I think it comes back to the uneccesary pressures placed upon Eagle pilots and Interviewees, when they are in the seat.

There are plenty of great guys in Eagle, I dont think that can be emphasied enough. Hopefully one day there will be a major re-jig of Eagle check and training policies, and when that one day comes It will be an awesome place to work.

Three actually, yours theirs and the truth.
2) The bitching over the interview proccess ALWAYS comes from those who were previously unsuccessfull OR never got an interview having tried, Or join the few who never went through the interview so can only go by what others have told them / seen written on here but not those within.
Politely turned them down when they rang me, in hindsight the best thing that could have ever happened to me.
3) There are 31 posts so far, 10 interviewies max. How many of us were actaully there?
I wouldn't expect one of the interveiwed to raise their head above the trench in this little flying world we live in for fear of mucking up their chances of employment, they have had a bad week already by the sounds of it. But how about one of these Eagle hotshot bullies coming out to give their side of the story? Or are we a little ashamed of what we have said? Waiting....
I understand that one of the candidates was a rather experienced Airforce chap, flying sum gear a little flasher than a turbine queenair, I have flown with a lot of airforce guys/girls and while there is always your share of weirdo's, lack of proficency is not usually a trait you find in people that have come through the mob, they weed that out fairly quickly...
Someone mentioned before that putting people in the 1900 is like Air NZ (or anyone else for that matter) putting you in the sim. However they will give you a comprehensive briefing beforehand, and put someone else in the sim next to you that you are able to utilise, nevermind the fact that they are able to controll the environment (wx conditions etc), not much of a comparison in this case me thinks. Oh yeah and wont tear strips off you afterwards if you were not up to scratch on the 744 after 30 minutes in the seat....

What an absolutely ridiculous comment. Of course no one from Eagle is going to discuss the nature of a confidential interview just to appease you, are they?

And it's all very convenient for the rest of you to bash away at the 'unprofessional conduct' of an interview none of you were apparently at, and you're all hiding behind your own avatars. The only people who know how the whole interview went are the Eagle captains, and clearly they don't wake up in the morning and chose to rip someone's flying career apart for the fun of it. Let's be a bit real about it.

Artemisp.....so are you one of these captains??? ...

I always bash unprofessional conduct...because there are so many clowns out there that think they have reached a pinnacle, they cant be touched...the power trip thing, and a few others......

...of course you make a valid point ,and that too is worth noting.....only there seems to be enough evidence that Eagle "may" have a few "rouge" Capts....(as all airlines do)......

..its a slow day ..soooooooooo we need to bash someone or something...getting wrapped around the axle is not the thing to do...

Yes we have heard this stuff before..is anyone surprised? Where theres smoke theres probably fire.
I know most of the crews that come through Auckland airport and there are some great senior captains. Some of them are real old experienced dudes with a nice attitude and loads of experience flying in all sorts of crappy conditions and two of the best blokes are starting their 747 ground courses at the end of the month..well done guys you waited long enough!!
But there are some pricks too and it goes right to the top. I hear a lot of "that other airline is a bunch of muppets" and "you should see the retards on the last groundcourse" sort of comments. I heard that their checkrides are just single pilot multi IFR without autopilot flights and the checking captains are just passengers unless you specifically ask them for help.
It all sounds too hard for me..you guys that have made it really deserve to strut because of your superior durability!!
oh and I fuelled ZK-EAG before it went down to HN for that training and yes it was a real poxy day..could hardly stand up straight in the wind with heavy showers in isolated CBs

No I would not expect the specifics of the interveiw to be discussed here, but how about explaining to the crowd what they are trying to achive by slamming a bunch of guys to their face??
No airline is exempt from twits, however if that airline lets them decide on the new recruits then how do they expect to get good people??

I suppose the point I am trying to make at the end of all this crap is that GA in this country is hard enough without people like this all too eager to slam people. How about a "You guys might need to practice a bit more on your IFR skills and we would look at you in the near future" At least give these guys a bit of hope rather than sending them away with a smacked botty for not being up to what ever standard it is you are looking for.

Guys and girls in NZ GA need help and encouragment from those above not a kick in the guts. Sometimes people looking down from the lofty heights of a 1900 cockpit are all to quick to forget where they came from.

I try to give encouragement to everybody that I meet in GA cause I know that it can get pretty stink on the bottom of the pile. Sometimes a "Dont worry mate you will get there eventually" can make sum poor bastards week.

Perhaps these check captains could be put in an Islander cockpit with a fixed card ADF, autopilot that goes round in circles, leaks when the rain comes in, with pax distracting them by yelling over their shoulder "ARE WE THERE YET!" and see how they get on.

Remember where you came from folks.

I also failed a wonderful 3 days interview at eagle after spending my life savings to fly to Auck book a hotel pay for food I was told sorry you don’t make the grade because you cant fly the AFS 1950 style sim, at the time I through I was ok flying IFR I had over 1000 multi and most of that was flying in IMC down to mins all over the north island and ****ty AZTEC’s and after talking to several Eagle pilots about flying the 1900d it seems a little easier to fly.

Anyway got over the interview pissed off oversea and now flying a 737-NG, so keep your heads up boy its not the end of the road eagle can go to hell
