Mine was six years prior, and on Dons singles.
PA-28 MCR, BJB, BES, CUT
PA28-R BME
PA32 MCM MCW POR SMI CHT(MC- for Millroy Countryair - but as the Piper agent, he sometimes crosshired back and utilised aircraft he had sold to the graziers)

Cherokee 6's to Keppel, and paper runs to Brisbane and Mackay, coal miners to Blackwater, Seraji, Moranbah, Gladstone. Supply runs to Marble Island. Vets and Graziers to Monte Christo, Foxleigh, Grasstree, Woongarra, Ohio, Tartrus, Laurinel, Rockwood, Wilpeena, Junee, Balcomba, Doonmabulla, Albinia. Flights during the floods with a door off for the cameraman, up the inland route Highway to film all the cars stranded between the flooded bridges. Miners out from Blackwater before Christmas, and because the Dawson was still over the bridge, back the other way in January. Good fun, but the two other young guys I shared a house at Pink Lily with, died later in aircraft accidents.

What's this, new cars? new bikes? and you're all complaining about not being paid enough?

To Frigatebird,

You'll be sad to hear that BME was involved in EFATO (I think) or not too long after T/O at JT - some months ago, and I haven't seen it since.

Looked to be 'nice' '28R too.

Back then, some of the new ones Don was selling had Airconditioning. Had the flap underfloor, parallel to the fuselage that when opened, slowed the little Cherokees down about 12 knots. Ahhhh, but the Cool Air was Great... Didn't get to use those new ones much in Rocky's summer heat though, usually had the older bangers loaded to the hilt with papers for Mackay, or people, taxied out with the tail almost dragging on the bitumen, and after rotation, gained altitude only due to the curvature of the Earth. Would cross the coast at Emu Park at 3,000, after going via either the South Berseker, or the North Berseker points, so as in the event of an 'Unmentionable Event' we could at least glide to the Island or back to the coast. Sometimes cross hired Kieth Barlows old 6 CHT from his subsidiary company Overland Air, that he mainly used for buffel seeding. That was a 'roughie'... Jimmie Stewart was there in those days, but not long after he retired to go flying the Commanche for someone on their property. Max Conrad ferried the Tartrus Robertson STOL Twin Commanche in, and I met him briefly.

VH-SMD is registered to a Blackwater, QLD owner.
I went solo in MCZ in 1969 after 6 1/4 hours dual with Jim Stewart.
MCD is still with Heather at Jambin.
Don M had a red GT Falcon 2 -door. Were you guys there when they had the Drover, "The Keppel Islander", and the Waco, "Jolly Roger"
Remember MCY, landed at North Rocky High School oval and had it wings clipped as it went thru the goal posts, 24.05.1981. Got photo's of it.
And the storm damaged a/c, Ansett PGU twotter upside down. K.Barlow had PA32, PYV, always a 'tail dragger', did seeding flight (once) and dingo baiting (once), never again.

I think the Drover AZS and the Waco AAF went by 67. The Waco did fishing charters and as GKL improved, so did the air air service and the TAA Drover moved on.

"Does it have a name?"
My daughter calls it "Dad's Red Pen-s Extension" - the cheeky bugga!

"Does it leak any oil?"
The only Pommy cars that don't leak oil are those from which all the oil has leaked! However, my E Type does not leak oil after a total, no expense spared, two year mechanical restoration back to new specs, including sealing all joints with modern sealants:

Strictly day VFR.

Joseph Lucas was the Prince of Darkness (from the company slogan "King of the Road"). He died of typhoid in 1902. Some would say a fitting end......

"Wasn't it Skippy Hartnet that nicknamed his Jag 'The Antichrist' and its electrical system "The Prince of Darkness".
Don't remember Skippy having a Jag. One of our former work colleagues who still flies in PNG also has a couple of Jags, including an E Type and is in the same Jag Club as myself.

One big cat is never enough..........

Weekdays, no rain:
