Photo clearly taken at NZQN.

Slight thread drift

I reckon it has about 200 hours TT.
Ouch!!! But still not as bad as one incident I remember reading about somewhere where someone once wrote off a Mk IX Spitfire in a landing accident where TTAF was about 25hrs.

T'would be easily repairable now!

Yup, absolutely. Only thing I ain't so sure of now is the colour... it may have been a dark/dirty red. It was some time ago, early this decade.

I "re-discovered" this pic while looking for one of the KFT wreck.

FTDK:

Good picture and glad to see you have flown some "standard to be judged on" machines.

1) What? The Floating Hotel!
2) Where? John Brewer reef - off Townsville
3) When? Beggered if I know - late 80's early 90's
4) Where is it now? Last I heard it was anchored in the Mekong in Ho's town!

Not one of the great success stories of Nth Qld tourism! Kinda like being in the middle of a wet desert. You could just make out Palm Is to the NW.

Once you have:
  • snorkelled in the lagoon
  • swum in the floating swimming pool
  • played tennis on the floating tennis
  • got pissed in the floating bar
There was not much else to do? Oh, yes there was! I know of at least one set of twins that were conceived in a top floor suite, though sea-sickness could dampen the enthusiasm for that particular activity!

if you're in a steep sideslip, how come your photo is so perfectly level? What are you in and what is a HDR?

Sarge has scanned some more pics and emailed them to me in my on going quest to replace pics I lost in Rabaul in 1994.

P2-ASI, The Aerostar 680p I used to fly - although at the time THIS pic was taken I was flying F28s for PX.

The ramp outside the SPAC (South Pacific Aeroclub) in the 90s. Mac Lee's (ex Talair) C402a, C185 (flown both) and Navajo and the old Winjeel we used to start up and taxi around after 'a few'.

Heiwini where I once pulled 2000kg of coffee out in one load in P2-RDB (an ex TAA -100 later converted to -200 Twotter)...never tried THAT again

The Winjeel and P39 (that was recovered from 'Bulldog' strip) outside the 'new' aeroclub

Chuckles; As I remember, Mack Lee's 402 was a C model. You sure that the A model in the piccie was'nt Richard Rowe's? P2-SAV.

Mack also had a C206. Don't recall him having a 185.

HDR is High Dynamic Range photography, basically 3 photos are taken in rapid succession, 1st being normal exposure level, the next at -2 exposure, making it really dark, and the 3rd being over exposed by 2, all 3 images are then merged, resulting in a shot that looks like that,

as for the angle, just aimed it.
