The main disadvantage with the 86" prop below, is the noise at 2850 rpm.

Actually, that's the best part.

Chimbu,
yer, well it is to me too, 'cept some people in town don't think so, in the early morning.
Of course being in the front left all the time, I never get to hear it.
I do notice ground crew covering their ears every take-off, when i am working.

On a bit of a C180/185 kick here, huh!

Well here's a couple for ya, from the good old days!

VH-KGT when we first met soon after she arrived in Oz as a new aircraft in ........ 1981 (I think!).

Yes, she was full IFR - along with her sister ship KFT, probably the two nicest C185s to come into the country. 'Bout $110k new, if my memory serves me correctly.

Anyone for where the pic was taken?

I cut my C180/185 teeth in the C180 below and came within a bee's dick of buying it, back in the early 80's. This aeroplane has some history! Ex-Seventh Day Adventist Church aeroplane, they eventually bought it back.

"The "Andrew Stewart" (call sign VH-SDA) was the first mission plane owned and operated by the Adventist Church anywhere in the world. VH-SDA flew safely for many years in mission service in both Papua New Guinea and for the North New South Wales Conference in Australia. Today this historic aircraft is preserved and on display at Sunnyside, Ellen White's old home, in Cooranbong, NSW.The "Andrew Stewart" (call sign VH-SDA) was the first mission plane owned and operated by the Adventist Church anywhere in the world."

VH-UAX, the C182RG got rolled up in a ball in the Gold Coast hinterland when some young fella ended his life-cycle beating up his girlfriend's chook house!

Jabawocky, I think you nailed it.
I haven't been there much since I started learning with Bob K in the late 70s.
Another photo I wish I had taken there once at an airshow was the line-up of ASK FOR and SEX.
Cheers

KGT
Jeezuz Corkey,
I flew in KGT many years ago up northern Aus, Mt isa, Darwin, Cairns, and back to Brisbane.
I was pointing it in the direction of Bathurst Island at appox 1600 ft when 2 FA18s flew under us. bloody exciting.
the 2 pilots were Laurie and Tony also the owners at the time of KGT Bloody good plane and I think it was IF Rated as well.
Cheers Millski
Thanks Millsky, interesting to hear of some of KGT's history before she went to NZ.
And it still is a Bloody good plane although no longer IF rated.
Currently living on the West coast of S.I in NZ, Is very well looked after, has all the flash gizmos and flys like a dream.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the privilege of flying it since it had the new prop (yet ) but apparently, as with Cracker's, it has significantly better take off and climb performance.

And DR. K, thanks for the old pic of her Any more ?

Corky, I have to troll back through the archives of my mind.

The original owner traded KGT to Rex Aviation on a new C210 in ......... 1985/86, I think. We had a book running on how long it would be until it "went around". I think it was about 2 yrs - longer than we expected - so about 1987.

Stumbled across the bent metal at Townsville one Sunday afternoon.

And I hope it wasn't you !
Nope - I have never bent one!

You wouldn't like to hear about poor old KPA then,

Currently on its fifth life...that's four ground loops in its life, only one due to a a wheel hub failure,,,the rest due to just plain LOC.

Hey Harrowing,

Re the callsigns -
In the mid 60's I was training at Aircraft Rentals, BK, when 'JC' bought
SEX the Twin Comanche,
SIN was reserved for a PA31 &
SON was going to be a Seneca - all to be parked
'out the front' in that order.....

And we were warned NOT to ask the looovly 'June' for sex when making a booking.....

Here is KFT. Taken at YBCG. Recently moved to begin the restoration. I reckon it has about 200 hours TT.

Here is KFT
Ohhhhhh, that resoration seems to be progressing nicely - given that it was pranged in 1981!

Warbo, I have been searching my albums for a pic of the wreck - but no luck as yet. I don't remember it having that much un-bent metal!

It was cartwheeled across the downs while mustering sheep. In the process of getting rolled up in a ball, the top engine cowl tried to come through the windscreen and the left wheel made a very good attempt to come through the pilot's door. When it came to rest the engine was 100m from the rest of aeroplane.

Legend has it that the pilot punched his way out through a window - and continued mustering on foot!
