Is that Ogeranang?
Looks more like Derim, over the hill from Kabwum
And the 2 drivers?
Yes it's Jacko and yes Q400 Sunstate.
The other is Chris Yarde, whereabouts unkown.
Both pics look to be circa 1981.

Cheeair became Morobe Airways owned by Cecil and Bertina Chee-hence the aircraft were all registered CB-. Coordinated Air Services became Coair owned by Richard Leahy.
I was just trying to figure out which was Chris and which was Graham

Chris is standing by the left engine of the Co-Air Islander wearing his usual silly grin and blue shorts
My mistake-Richard managed Co-Air, but he was an owner of Kiunga Aviation.

Nothing wrong with your tingting chimbu warrior, Tufi it is,September 2001.
I was on my way, Gurney to Madang, with a couple of mates and decided to overnight at the lodge. Used to spend the odd weekend there when Graham Popel owned the place.
Three of us in one room overnight. K600....EACH.
You can just make out an Otter on short finals in the top photo.

Lae Tower
cac_sabre - the view from Lae tower I remember well, used to work there quite a few years ago, but I seem to remember we had moved to Nadzab by 1981. Use to fly for Cedric sometimes when he was short of a pilot and he spelled CheeAiir with the double 'i' - something to do with Chinese good luck. Remember some names - Peter B-Cotter, Steve Jorgensen, Pat Smyth, Dave Richards, Jack Kleinhans (FS) - aah - those were the days.
They were the days

I arrived at Nadzab in Jan 79, I think ATC left Lae a couple of years before that, after Iambakey Okuk got in power as minister for aviation he opened up Lae again to Air Niugini ops around mid '81, they had to move a pipe storage compound from alongside the runway before they could open it to larger aircraft. I left XMas 82, dunno when Lae was finally closed

Lae Airport
Commercial traffic to Lae was shifted to Nadzab in 1987, the airport continued to be operational until 1992 for the defence force, then was abandoned. The land is being redeveloped now.

Okuk... now there's a man who admitted to the Post Courier that he had to get back into politics to pay off his debts!!!
Reminds me of the time Bob Martin was talking to EWA in Tamworth and was asked by one of their senior men "Who's that crazy Irish man that you have as Minister for Civil Aviation?" It was some time before Bob could talk!!!!
