I arrived at Nadzab in Jan 79, I think ATC left Lae a couple of years before that, after Iambakey Okuk got in power as minister for aviation he opened up Lae again to Air Niugini ops around mid '81, they had to move a pipe storage compound from alongside the runway before they could open it to larger aircraft. I left XMas 82, dunno when Lae was finally closed
