PNG Ples Bilong Tok Tok
Silly Old Git
Hi Exaviator
Heavens, not casting aspersions, I was referring to the Twotters introduction into the GA (TAL)world, realising of course that Twotters were operating with clean cut aviation Gods from TAA and Ansett prior
I think Soapy once said "If I can get orli to eat this stuff, I'll make a bloody fortune"

TAA Twotter
tinpis
During the famine in early seventies a TAA Twotter pilot invited me on a flight to Nipa loaded with, of all things, tinpis, as the kau kau crop had been frosted off (turned out the people wouldn't eat the tinned fish, as at that stage it apparently wasn't part of the normal diet - so much of it ended up in the markets)
Back to the point - the Twotter was handled safely and professionally as one would assume a tattars pilot would, and he gave me quite a few tips on flying in PNG which was a good intro to how to survive - yep they were kinda godlike in their own way tinpis, as you said.

** Swamp Ghost **
The Second World War B-17 Flying Fortress, dubbed the Swamp Ghost, is now at the port of Lae ready to be shipped to the United States. The National Executive Council against the recommendation of the Public Accounts Committee gave permission to export the relic on the 10th of September. 2008? alternatively, 2009?
The Public Accounts Committee ruled in 2006 that the salvage of the Swamp Ghost from the Agiambo Swamp in Oro province was illegal. The Swamp Ghost, officially known as B17-E serial number 41-2446, was accepted into the US Army on Dec 6, 1941.

** Airport Upgrades Questioned **
PNG's government, led by PM Somare and his deputy Sir Puka Temu, has been criticised by the opposition over plans to upgrade Jacksons International Airport in the capital, Port Moresby. The 500 million kina (US$190 million) project is intended to bring the airport up to international standards. The opposition has argued that there are other, more important services that should be prioritised, such as schools and hospitals.

** Earhart's Plane Found? **
The discovery of the wreckage of an aircraft in the Ip River in East Pomio, East New Britain province recently, has generated renewed speculation that it could be the aircraft belonging to famed American aviatrix, Amelia Earhart. Long-time Earhart researcher, Dave Billings, believes it is not.

To catch a crocodile:
I believe that it is part of Peter Pinneys Manuscript Collection at University of Queenslands Fryer Library.
Peter is Sir Hubert Murrays Grandson

OMKALI! I remember it well...... once you crossed the end of the strip the ground fell away so fast you were 2000ft agl before you could unpucker.
Hi to all - this is my first post. I only discovered this thread a few months ago and its taken me a while to read all 125 pages. Sorry I didn't find it earlier, before Sharpie crossed over - I flew with him in Air Nogat. Lots of other voices I knew also now stilled forever.
I must have flown with you, Tinpis, as I was TAL Mendi based in 1971. Still trying to work out exactly who everyone is - it ain't easy! You guys are very cryptic in your comments!
As for me, well you can have a guess who I am as well (shouldn't be hard). A rough outline to start off - spent 7 years to the very day in PNG. Based in Mendi when QF cadets MQ and De-lay were there; also Bernie, Gumis and Morrie Lean.
Lots of old yarns I could tell, but for the moment I'll just recall the day MQ was leaving Mendi to go on leave, then on to Air Nogat. I will never forget it. We were both young and stupid and for some reason we decided it would be a good idea to beat up the Mendi strip in formation. After a couple of runs over the strip, we disappeared from view around the old quarry, roared back over the TAL houses on the hill at zot feet, then broke hard and curled in to land. MQ was just ahead of me and as I touched down I saw that he had done a split-arsed turn without touching down and was coming straight back over the top of me (b*****d made me freakin' duck, I'll tell you!). Turning back to land at the other end (the 'wrong' end, where Gumis pranged), he almost lost it. When he taxied back in we both grabbed a beer and just looked at each other. I remember saying, "I think that'll do MQ, don't you?" He said, "Bloody oath" and as far as I know neither of us have ever done a beat up since that day, which is probably why we are still alive.....
