Meanwhile in Russia the media is reporting the events in it's own way ie. "theres nothing to see here, move along". As the media in the west has its finger on the pulse, it is hard to find any news in Russian media. Just a few short mentions of "shelling of kherson" or "missile strikes in kherson" or "outstanding victory, billions of Ukrainian tanks destroyed".

Enemy losses in manpower amounted to more than 560 servicemen. Consider a full-fledged battalion. "Another attempt at offensive actions by the enemy failed miserably," our defense department concluded.

Air defense worked well, ”he told RIA Novosti .

But this article is the most telling of them all: since this has been written this morning and the emphasis is so strong that nothing is happening there, the Russians on Kherson are are probably about to collapse. And who's the one saying so? the same a**hole who has fled the area (see ORAC's post #8649 ) :D

Great insight into Ukrainian tactics from @John_Hudson

First thing I would have done for this or any other major NATO weapon system that I was going to get limited numbers of.

Dogs are sensitive to their surroundings physically and the emotional state of the people around the dog. If the carer of the dog had been a casualty, the dog will be traumatised if they were bonded to that person. Constant noise and concussion is going to harm any dog, even a cat is going to be annoyed.

That dog was in shock without apparent injury, in need of a caring person.

Putin doesn't need to apply for that job. No self respecting dog would lie done near Putin.

I wonder if there is any truth in it? trouble is that still does not get rid of the combat effectiveness of them, they simply become an obstacle to overcome further down the line. The fact they are allegedly negotiating means they know they are stuffed, it will also allow those wanted for warcrimes to escape.

The remaining Russian command in Kherson is secretly negotiating with the Ukrainian military to declare Kherson an open city. In exchange for allowing an evacuation with light weapons for the Russian occupiers in Kherson. The agreement does not apply to collaborators!

I recall seeing a report that this had been requested by the Russians before, but was refused by the Ukrainians. Tricky one to know how to play - personally I too would want to see them out of the fight for good, but then I see the merit in allowing them to leave without expending too much of your combat power and allowing them venting their frustrations on the local populace as they did elsewhere in Ukraine.

If UKR captures many Russians, that gives them lots of leverage for trading for their own prisoners, and in other aspects should there be a negotiation. (See also the decision to encircle but not destroy the Egyptian 3rd Army in the Sinai in 1973).

Interesting.

For langlybaston: I believe you. I just felt that in your application of brevity (the soul of wit!) a bit too much was omitted on what IPB is. In support of your point: when I worked at a CAOC we had a full time Met Team on task 24/7. Very valuable, per your own experiences, and all were top notch. :ok:

I used too, but the MODS asked me not too ages ago, if you quote the link will show then copy and paste, I will try to quote a few and hope the mods are lenient, others have this problem as do I on some of the PC's I use.
