Seeems clear from this video, that it is the ship and munition exploding rather than the adjacent oil tanks (berdyansk LST Tank Project 1171 ship)

Looks like a later strike on the bow during this video or possibly something cooking off.

There's another video circulating clearly showing secondary explosions and debris falling in the harbour, plus another ship fleeing the scene. Bizarrely in the same video people seem to be going about their daily lives - walking their dog up the promenade.

Britain just announced they are sending 6000 more as well. Stocks of LAW’s around the world must be getting low.

The UK said when they came out they initially had a requirement for 20,000 of them.

It seems all is not well in Mother Russia..And this guy is the hardened top"Diplomat"

Russia’s top diplomat said on Wednesday that the Kremlin was surprised that Western leaders imposed the level of economic sanctions currently hurting the country — a rare admission of weakness from President Vladimir Putin’s government amid the ongoing destruction in Ukraine.

“When the reserves of the Central Bank were frozen, no one who was predicting what sanctions the West would pass could have pictured that,” Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told students at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, according to Kommersant. Lavrov also called the sanctions an act of “theft.”

“The Russian Federation must be made to never again depend on supplies from abroad. … Russia has no right to allow dependence on the West in vital sectors of its economy,” Lavrov said, according to Russian state-owned news outlet TASS. The official added that the Kremlin would still be “ready to cooperate” with the West in the future “if they want.”

Putin made the decision in February to invade Ukraine despite NATO and Western leaders holding repeated talks to avoid a war. A large number of nations, including the United States, slammed Russia with increasingly severe sanctions — sending the ruble plummeting and the Russian economy in shambles.

Russia’s Elvira Nabiullina tried to resign from her position as central bank governor after Putin ordered the invasion of Ukraine, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing four people with knowledge of the discussion. Putin reportedly ordered her to stay, nominating her for a new five-year term last week so that she’s forced to deal with a wartime economy isolated by global sanctions. Bloomberg’s sources told the outlet that her departure would now be seen as a betrayal by the president.

— max seddon (@maxseddon) March 23, 2022Anatoly Chubais, Russia’s climate envoy who advised Putin, resigned and left Russia on Wednesday — making him the highest-level officer to quit the Kremlin since the beginning of Russia’s invasion. Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the resignation to the Financial Times, but said Chubais’ reason for leaving is a “personal matter.”

The business oligarch known for overseeing Russian privatization after the fall of the Soviet Union left due to his opposition to the war in Ukraine, according to Bloomberg, citing two sources familiar with the situation. A source told Reuters that Chubais left for ties with international organizations.

And another departing the sinking ship..

A senior and respected Russian official has stepped down from his role of climate envoy and left the country, after opposing Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine.

Anatoly Chubais quit Moscow this week according to Bloomberg, becoming the highest-ranking person to get out since the start of the war last month.

This comes after Russia was made subject to international sanctions and isolation, with major international firms ending trade there, and Kremlin-linked companies and individuals having been blacklisted.

The 66-year-old, known for being a key shaper of the economic reforms of the 1990s, had close ties with the west, but remained in Putin’s inner circle.

Chubais reportedly escaped the country after President Putin warned of a crackdown against critics of the war, threatening he’d rid the country of “scum and traitors”.

He is the second key official to quit after Arkady Dvorkovich, a former adviser to ex prime minister Dmitry Medvedev, stepped down from a state-run technology firm.

According to The Times, Kira Yarmysh, a spokesperson for jailed critic Alexei Navalny, said: “They write that Chubais resigned and left Russia ‘in protest against the war with Ukraine’. Anatoly Chubais left Russia only out of fear for his own skin and his own money.”

There is more different types of LAWs in the world than Ukrainians are able to consume. Russians run out of armor before the world runs out of "pipes".
If looking at NLAW's, there are tens of thousands of those. Then there are good old M72LAW's of which there are literally hundreds of thousands if not millions, and those are very capable weapons agains APC's. Then there are the Panzerfaust 3's, AT4's, C90-CR's and we even haven't got to the Russian made RPG's or eastern european made goods yet. After these there are the shoulder fired missiles like Javelins. The weaponry is there, it just needs to be delivered.

To emphasize the point: The thing is that you really dont need NLAW's or Javelins for APC's, you need those for MBT's and alike. Better option against majority of vehicles is the modern version of M72LAW which penetrates up to 450mm of armor so it is very capable against Soviet era people carriers. The M72LAW is also light weight, compact, VERY easy to use and cheap as dirt. Basically with a M72LAW a soldiers carrying ability is restricted by space, not weight.

I did wonder if the Ukrainians have been squandering the more advanced missiles on soft-skinned vehicles, hence why stocks are running low. As you say, its far better to hold these back for MBTs and the like. That said, if its the only weapon you've got to hand...

Raking the engine block/tyres etc of any soft-skinned vehicle with machine gun fire would presumably also do the job?

Agreed, the 66 is an ace weapon.

Undoubtedly right, but I'm surprised that you ignore the very evident truth that - unlike many of us writing here - huge numbers are worried about their jobs, cost of getting to work, heating their homes, how to pay for the week-end's shopping, explaining to their families why all of this is suddenly a much bigger problem than it was just four weeks ago. Man does not live by discussing Ukraine alone, nor should he.

Probably, but if there is a squad of infantry inside that truck and they have time to get out, you may have made a very existential error.

" hence why stocks are running low. "

We don't actually know this is true. The Ukrainiians will be trying to keep the pressure ramped up on their supporters to maximise supplies: either so they can be more profligate, or to guard against the Russians successfully blocking future supplies.

Does anyone know if all supplies to Ukraine are being gifted, or being sold ? I thought it likely the former, but yesterday read in a German magazine that the Ukranians were kicking Germany for being far behind its promises in delivering ATGM. The article went on to say this might be simple, inefficient bureaucracy, including processing purchase orders. In itself that doesn't have to mean things are being sold, just that journos don't necessarily understand the processes and terminology used when moving supplies in a large bureaucracy, but I thought I'd ask for opinions.

More on the ship attacks

https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/n...uthern-ukraine

A Russian-controlled port in southern Ukraine, the capture of which was heralded as a "milestone event" in the war by Vladimir Putin's military, is now burning, and a tank-landing ship docked at the port has been sunk, according to the Ukrainian Navy.

Videos on social media purportedly showed the Port of Berdyansk in flames on Thursday morning. The Ukrainian Navy says the Orsk Russian tank-landing ship was destroyed at the port, and media reports indicate that two other ships are "smoking heavily and trying to escape." A warehouse with ammunition and fuel was reportedly destroyed at the port as well.

"In Berdyansk, a large landing ship of the Russian army 'Orsk' was destroyed," The Ukrainian Navy said on Thursday.

— 🇺🇦Armed Forces (@ArmedForcesUkr) March 24, 2022In addition to the destruction of the Orsk, a Ukrainian military officer claims the "large landing ship" Saratov was damaged by fire and the Kunikov and Novocherkassk were able to escape. The officer claims three people were killed in the assault and 11 were wounded.

The Port of Berdyansk, located on the Sea of Azov coastline, is approximately 50 miles west of the besieged city of Mariupol, which has suffered from heavy shelling by land, air, and sea.

UKRAINE IN POSITION TO ENCIRCLE RUSSIAN TROOPS OUTSIDE KYIV, UK OFFICIALS SAY

On Wednesday, the Kremlin-funded media outlet RT shared a video on social media showing Russian combat operations at the port.

The RT report showed the Orsk docked at Berdyansk, bringing heavy equipment and other supplies to front lines.

The Orsk is classified as an alligator-class landing ship by NATO.It can carry up to 20 tanks, 40 armored personnel vehicles, and hundreds of troops, according to the RT report.

A Russian military official interviewed by RT heralded the capture of the now burning port.

"Our arrival here is a milestone event. It opens up completely new opportunities for the Black Sea Fleet to use existing Ukrainian infrastructure for our logistics operations," the unnamed military official said.

RT's report claimed humanitarian aid was also being transported in via the port. A claim that cannot be independently verified.

"According to the residents of Berdyansk, there were 5 ships being loaded there. Some of them were fully loaded — we can see from the customs documents — some were partially loaded. A few days ago, these ships disappeared from the port of Berdyansk. People say they were driven away. Russian tugs," Oleksandr Starukh, governor of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, said on Monday.

"There are tens of thousands of tons of grain loaded" on the ships, Starukh noted.

You are of course correct, and I thought about my post during the night.

The intent was to say that like all bullies, someone big had picked on someone smaller and when things didn't go to plan, instead of continuing to fight had simply chosen to step back and do as much damage as possible. Sickening really

Well, another senior Russian taken out of the action by his own side.

https://metro.co.uk/2022/03/24/russi...-die-16334642/

A Russian soldier drove a tank into his colonel’s legs after losing hundreds of his comrades in the war in Ukraine, it has been claimed.

Colonel Yuri Medvedev was seen being carried on a stretcher across the border in Belarus in footage released by Moscow two weeks ago. At the time, Russian forces said Medvedev had been wounded in battle.

But now Ukrainian journalist Roman Tsimbalyuk has said Medvedev was run over by one of his own men.

According to Mr Tsimbalyuk’s version of events, Medvedev suffered injuries to both his legs after a soldier blamed him for the deaths of his colleagues.

The assault allegedly happened after 50% of around 1,500 troops were reportedly injured or killed while fighting in the Ukrainian city Makarov under Medvedev’s leadership.

Medvedev is said to be recovering in hospital in Belarus where he was awarded the Order of Courage.

It is unknown what happened to the soldier who has been accused of turning on his own colleagues.

It comes as several reports suggest growing dissent among Russian soldiers, who are believed to have called the invasion a ‘s******w’ and a ‘madhouse’ in intercepted radio messages.
