Ukraine War Thread Part 2
I was referring to offering / allowing the enemy privileged sanctuary
Was called out one night at o dark thirty to crew a Huey C & C, a FSB was under attack. Upon arrival the attack was over and the VC were sitting on the opposite side of the canal on which the FSB was located giving us a cheery wave. The canal formed the border between two provinces and the VC well knew that we wouldn't have the province chief on board for that particular province to authorise engagement.
The ARVN were in the habit of taking their families to where ever they were posted, I don't recall there being many, if any, FSB survivors, women and children included in the massacre.

Video… In an act of futility, Russia's best anti-aircraft units (S400 Triumph) attempt to react to Ukraine's incoming ATACMS strikes before total destruction.
Russian air defense systems are even garbage next to 1990's US gear..

That's the additional benefit of sending stuff to Ukraine. You can identify issues and correct them for the case where you REALLY need your stuff working as advertised.
Survival rate of such SAM crews will be approaching german Submarine crews in WWII. And that is against a country without the full range of SEAD/DEAD gizmos. Against a full on NATO attack on day 3 there would probably at best a single digit percentage of SAM crew still alive.
I do find it strange in all of these videos, the Russian kit has no camouflage.
No attempt it would seem is given to siting it in a woodline etc.
Just plonk it in a field hoping that the UAVs and satellites won't notice it and that it can defend itself with fire.
This also goes for parked tanks and artillery batteries.
As a famous Ukrainian once said, "We are lucky they are so F***ing stupid!"

On the night of May 19, an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine damaged a Su-27 aircraft at the Kushchevskaya military airfield in Krasnodar Krai, according to Russian outlet ASTRA. At least three UAVs struck the airfield, causing a fire that damaged the fighter jet and infrastructure. Local residents reported the drone attack, but emergency services only mentioned a "localized fire."
Satelite images emerged of Kushchevskaya airport after it was attacked by Ukrainian drones. Indeed a Su-27 fighter jet was destroyed, also a Su-34 fighter was damaged. Another Su-30 could also have taken damage, but this remains unclear from these images.

Exclusive info provided to WaPo by US & Ukrainian officials reveals that they were provided with baseline GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bombs for their fixed wing aircraft. These have an effective rate of 90%, a stark contrast with the GLSDB.
Previously the only glide bombs known to have been provided were JDAM-ERs, but Ukraine began receiving SDBs in Nov 2023, indicating their inclusion in the Oct 11, 2023 PDA #48, which listed "Precision aerial munitions".
Unclear why SDB is so much more effective. It may be that Ukraine actually received GBU-39B/B Laser SDBs, but those would required active designation by a UAS overhead.

Russian BTR-50's have entered the battle field
manufacturing began in 1952 but was replaced by the BMP1 and MT-LB already in the sixties.
To describe how outdated it is: Armor really isn't much of a protection to anyone inside it as even 7.62x39 penetrates the hull from every side.
To make a point, even Russias stocks will run out eventually. Not yet, but eventually. Keep the weapons flowing to Ukraine.

Hopes grow of G7 deal to support Ukraine with $300bn in frozen Russian assets
Sounds like that might do Ukraine a bit of good AND pee off some of Putins chums.
Now, if they could confiscate some of the Russian owned property here in Munich...
Hopes of a multi-country deal to use $300bn of Russian state assets frozen in the European banking system to support Ukraine have grown after it emerged that G7 ministers were confident of overcoming technical and political obstacles at a meeting in northern Italy on Saturday.
The Canadian finance minister, Chrystia Freeland, said she was optimistic that G7 leaders would reach an agreement, as support coalesced around a plan to use frozen Russian central bank assets as security for a $50bn (£39bn) loan.

Is that the ejection seat firing at the cockpit area? Ukraine shot down another Russian Su-25 close-air support jet. It appears to have been shot down with a MANPADS.
This is the 8th Russian Su-25 shot down in 20 days….
