Video from the Prime Minister of Sweden…
BREAKING:
Sweden announces a huge military aid package for Ukraine worth USD 7 billion over the period 2024-2026.
If the U.S. would spend as much in relation to its GDP, it would amount to a military aid package worth USD 335 billion

From the New York Times today. Let's hope we do the right thing. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/22/u...ns-russia.html
Since the first American shipments of sophisticated weapons to Ukraine, President Biden has never wavered on one prohibition: President Volodymyr Zelensky had to agree to never fire them into Russian territory, insisting that would violate Mr. Biden’s mandate to “avoid World War III.”
But the consensus around that policy is fraying. Propelled by the State Department, there is now a vigorous debate inside the administration over relaxing the ban to allow the Ukrainians to hit missile and artillery launch sites just over the border in Russia — targets that Mr. Zelensky says have enabled Moscow’s recent territorial gains.
The proposal, pressed by Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken after a sobering visit to Kyiv last week, is still in the formative stages, and it is not clear how many of his colleagues among Mr. Biden’s inner circle have signed on. It has not yet been formally presented to the president, who has traditionally been the most cautious, officials said.
The State Department spokesman, Matthew A. Miller, declined to comment on the internal deliberations over Ukraine policy, including Mr. Blinken’s report after his return from Kyiv.
But officials involved in the deliberations said Mr. Blinken’s position had changed because the Russians had opened a new front in the war, with devastating results. Moscow’s forces have placed weapons right across the border from northeastern Ukraine, and aimed them at Kharkiv — knowing the Ukrainians would only be able to use non-American drones and other weaponry to target them in response.

Any old F-4 pilots from the Viet Nam era will recognize that policy for what it is.
And probably grumble into their beer as I am grumbling into mine at the moment.

Loosing the war on the Ukrainian side will be massive more expensive for all western countries compared to winning. They have then to spent yearly more on military as in the iron wall years pre 1990. Only winner will be the military industrial complex. Go figure.

Just read an article suggesting Russia has already completely lost the intiative in the Kharkiv push, and their plan to weaken Ukrainian strength in the Donbas has also failed. This did mean that Ukraine had to commit Ukrainian reserves, however.
Usual caveats apply.

Russian BTR-50's have entered the battle field
manufacturing began in 1952 but was replaced by the BMP1 and MT-LB already in the sixties.
To describe how outdated it is: Armor really isn't much of a protection to anyone inside it as even 7.62x39 penetrates the hull from every side.
To make a point, even Russias stocks will run out eventually. Not yet, but eventually. Keep the weapons flowing to Ukraine.

Really? And tomorrow it will be even older - beating its record for another day running.
thanks for the info, I pasted the address of a different article. However, interesting article as well.
Wasn't the American military (as a whole) smaller than Portugal's on December 7th 1941? America ended WW2 as the worlds largest. Industrial might is the key.

Reuters reports that it will take Boeing months to fix the Ground Launched Small Diameter Bomb's (GLSDB) vulnerability to Russian electronic warfare.
It "can defeat some jamming" but has proven less resilient than GMLRS & JDAM-ER.
It is likely that there are other issues as well beyond the EW vulnerability, per comments from US Undersecretary of Defense LaPlante.
There is an ongoing feedback/improvement cycle between the ZSU and the DoD to rapidly generate material and TTP solutions to Russian countermeasures. This process has generated success for other munitions and assets.
GLSDB may be salvaged in the end, though I am not optimistic

I think Russia should pull out of the air defence business as they are not very good at it.

ATACMS strike are reported on Crimea, targets are presumably located in the Simferopol area. Air defence activity is reported in other places as well.
