This talk of airliners being used as missiles is a little like Hitler and his Wunderwaffe.
There is no need to re-invent the modern battlefield - drones are doing that with aplomb.
What Ukraine needs is for the US to sort out its Congress nonsense and provide Bradleys, MLRS, F16s, Support Helicopters and more shells than can be fit into 10 Super Container Ships.
Its all there sitting in the desert anyway.
Mix in a few dozen Taurus missiles and the expected Russian Offensive will be a dampened to a stalemate again.
If the massing of mines worked for the Russians, I hope the Ukrainians have the same response to a Russian sojourn this summer.

Using large aircraft was tried out in WW2. It didn’t work then and killed a possible future US president, Joe P. Kennedy.

Taking events and technology of 80 years ago and using it as a predictor for current situations ( as I think you are suggesting ) doesn't seem very valid to me.

My heart breaks knowing this daily pain is the fault of the Russians. A young firefighter cries at the scene of an attack in Kharkiv, where the Russians cynically killed his father, a 52-year-old rescuer. Father and son, together with other colleagues, went to the place of shelling after the first explosions. Vladyslav and Volodymyr worked not far from each other — literally a few houses away. The father died due to a hit by Shahed.

Apparently the Russians have been doing a double tap, hit a target then wait for the rescue services to attend before hitting it again

A strike on Kharkiv, just an ordinary apartment building. With three Shaheds.
A despicable and cynical attack, when the rescuers arrived at the scene of the strike, the terrorists attacked again.
As a result of the attack, 4 people were killed. Among them were our rescuers: Vladyslav Lohinov, Serhii Baidalinov and Volodymyr Matiushenko.
A civilian, Zoia Bondiukova, was also killed. My sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.
More than 10 people were injured, all of whom are receiving the necessary assistance. Russian terrorists will be held accountable for their actions in Kharkiv and for all acts of aggression against our people.
We are working with our partners to strengthen the protection of our cities and villages and to protect our citizens. Strengthening Ukraine's air defense capabilities directly translates into saving lives.

They really need air cover, be it ground missile based or airborne or the ability to take out the launch sites.
