The annual Moscow "show of strength" was remarkably short this morning with no helicopter or fixed wing flypasts. The blue skies and puffy clouds were there in abundance ........so we await the excuse that it was due to the weather.

Retreat from Kherson into Crimea accelerating…

The russian occupation administration has left Skadovsk - General Staff.

"On the night of May 6, the occupiers loaded documentation, equipment, other property of state institutions onto motor vehicles, & by the morning of May 7, a significant part of the ru occupation administration, along with their families, had left the city."

Contents of the parade are rather telling..

MAKS 22
I forgot to add, for example, the T-34 that was on parade in Moscow today was made in Kharkiv. This is the greatness of Russia, without Ukraine they can do little...

Not curious, just a sign of an excellent translation: you should always aim to capture the essence of the original, not just transpose words. It becomes more difficult when balancing the accuracy of the words against the value of the stylistic elements ( here the rhyme )

Not sure where the UK comes into this deal….

The #Netherlands may transfer F-16 combat aircraft to #Ukraine

According to Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the issue of the supply of F-16 fighters is being discussed with the United States, Great Britain and Denmark.

Supplying them is one thing, but who is going to maintain them and support the weapon systems? They may have trained pilots, but what about the ground crews? Maybe there's the possibility of servicing them in Romania or Poland between ops?

The Russian Ambassador to #Poland failed to lay a wreath at the memorial in Warsaw.

The citizens forced him to leave the place.

What the Russian ambassador saw today in Warsaw... when visiting the red army memorial for "victory day":

Washington Post: UK preparing to send long-range missiles to Ukraine.

The U.K. appears ready to send Ukraine missiles that can hit targets up to 300 kilometers away, the WP reported on May 9, citing a procurement notice by the U.K.-led International Fund for Ukraine.

In the notice posted on May 2, the U.K. Defense Ministry asked for "expressions of interest" in supplying such missiles, requesting a response within three days, the WP wrote.

No final decision has been made yet, according to an unnamed U.K. official.…

I find it rather humbling to see how individuals (not governments) find such brilliant ways to say "К черту Россию," "poshel na khuy."

I sincerely hope the more tardy members of NATO pull their collective noses out of the trough and implement the sanctions and supply Ukraine with everything they need.
In the near future the world will look back fondly on those who stood squarely with Ukraine and despise the Quisling leaders of states that dragged their feet.

On a side note, perhaps the Ukrainians don't need a counteroffensive at the moment. They are awaiting the hardening of the ground, the supply of more tanks that arrive in June and most importantly, the Russians seem to be pulling back in several areas through fear alone.

Can't see why there should be any insurmountable problems. Ukraine has an Air Force whose ground personnel can be trained in the required skills, just as their soldiers have been trained to use Western tanks, artillery and anti-aircraft systems.

I'd be curious to hear a Russian speaker confirm that the soundtrack bears any resemblance to the subtitles.
I'd be very surprised if it did.

I don't see why not. The English version of 99 red balloons rhymes better than the original (note that I even got some aviation related content in there
