"Ward, West and Woodward have lost the plot and those that continue to use their arguments will be weakened by it. Most serving dark blue are deeply embarrased by their inaccurate rants. "
No, we really are not.
Go and have a look on Rum ration and find me the "Oh I wish the admirals would shut up" thread.

"Rum Ration is nowt but the navel equivalent of ARRSE"
Yes, it is exactly that, and exactly where you would expect to see some evidence of dissatisfaction in the ranks if there was in fact any such evidence to find.
If you don't like my suggestion, where can you point to evidence of
"Most serving dark blue are deeply embarrased by their inaccurate rants. "?

Neither scientific nor necessarily indicative of any particular percentage, but of ALL the Dark Blue aviators I have spoken to (more than 1 but probably less than 10), they all appeared to think the Ward et al were an embarassment.
Sharkey is ranting in the Daily Fail.

Another nothing story with which the Bearded Bulls****er can flex his idiocy.
Aircraft have been 'robbed' for, well probably since flying squadrons came about, hell is even used to happen with Harriers.

A well-connected chum told me that the provision of spares for the TypHooon had been provisioned at the level it has, as an 'at-risk' venture. Signed off by Jock Stirrup....
Most new TypHoons have therefore been robbed to keep known-to-be-serviceable jets serviceable, or so I was told.
He might have been wrong - but somehow I doubt it.
Of course it gives the bearded bull$hitter yet another chance to rant.....
RAF engineering practice was once described as "Borrowing the wheels from your mate's car to get yours through the MoT". Harsh words.....but fair!

In my experience, the support budget for a programme has always been robbed to fund the bits the procurement programme forgot and late breaking good ideas. The in-service engineers were generally handed a crock with a new platform.

Exactly the same thing happened on Merlin HM1.
"Need to reduce initial spend"
"Lets cut the spares buy - it's a new aircraft it's bound to be more reliable / have higher-lifed spares (??!!)"
IFTU and sqn work-ups fall behind flying hours budget....endless STOROB / canning of cabs. Op costs go up.....

I joined in1974 and the "Xmas Tree" was a normal part of daily aircraft servicing thing so this current load of old "dog cock" is very confusing, but no doubt Tourist and others can fill in the gaps for us
I see that Ocean's Sea Kings and Lynx are getting a mention at last:
Commander United Kingdom Task Group Takes Command Of Libya Maritime Strike Operations From HMS Ocean
Although it is HMS Ocean’s Apache attack helicopters from 656 Squadron Army Air Corps who have had much of the press following their strike missions into Libya, they have been ably assisted by Sea King Mk 7s of 857 Naval Air Squadron providing airborne surveillance and Lynx Mk 7s of 847 Naval Air Squadron providing force protection, all of which are also embarked in HMS Ocean.
Back (strictly) on topic - what state were the Harriers in prior to the SDSR axe/storage?

Actually, having a very good idea of RRs core audience, I would suggest it has very few serving matelots onboard, a fair number of retired 'life was better when I was in' matelots and a few civilian hangers on. RR in no way has the audience, support or attention that ARRSE has - its a damp squib of a site.

As has been mentioned many times however, spares were an increasingly frustrating issue. Thanks in no small part to the LEAN principle, the spares stock was run down to practically nothing, and what 10 years previously were routine demands or held stock, suddenly became "No Item Record" thus requiring all kinds of inventive solutions and Xmas trees!! This problem steadily got worse throughout the final 2 years of the Harrier's life
Thank heavens for 'Christine' which now adorns Wittering's gate!!
Here endeth my 2p worth!!

So the RN have refit the Illustrious at great expense and are sending it back to sea with its Ski Ramp as what, a decoration ?
The three ships, Invincible, Illustrious and Ark royal seemed to me, despite all criticism to be an ideal compromise for a Navy short on funds and looking for the maximum capability for its money.
The combination of this unique platform and the incredible Sea Harrier seemed and still seems unbeatable.
Many experts have said that a conventional carrier, in the Falklands could not have launched or recovered Aircraft in the sea states and other abysmal weather that existed down there.
An exceptional ship with an exceptional Aircraft, what a waste.

Sharkey Ward, Sharkey Ward, flying through the glade................
Sharkey Ward, Sharkey Ward, human hand greeenade.............
Makes more noise than a w*nking skelleetton....
Sharkey Ward, Sharkey Ward, Sharkey Waaaardd....
Repeat ad infinitum till he shuts his ill-informed beardy cakehole - some hope!
Blatantly plagiarised from the Python Sketch "Dennis Moore" - but hey it's my own lyrics!
Chorus : (sings) Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore,
galloping through the sward,
Dennis Moore, Dennis Moore,
and his horse Concorde.
He steals from the rich, he gives to the poor,
Mr. Moore, Mr. Moore, Mr. Moore.

I've just re-read some of Sharkey's World (minutes of my life I will never get back ), in particular a letter from Adm Woodward to Oliver Letwin in Apr 11. What a lot of utter tosh: DJRP "at least as good as RAPTOR", GR4 can only carry "perhaps 50 rounds" in high temperatures", and he claims Stormshadow was used against moving targets in Libya "(moving tanks/armour)". Just 3 random examples of total fabrication and disinformation. But I think I can see Sharkey's plan - he makes so many factual errors or misleading statements that no-one can be bothered to counter each and every one in the way he argues. Quite clever.
I still cannot fathom why men of such (former) respect are prepared to demean themselves by flying their flags on such a ship of drivel.

Agreed - he grinds you down with complete garbage. It's part of his master-plan.
I hope nobody is listening..................
Mind you, StormShadow TOO mode would be worth it for a laugh against a technical or AFV. Wouldn't be much left!

Not 100% accurate, a 'no item record' will only appear if there is no MOD stock on the shelf and there has been no movement for the past 2 years. So if someone had demanded such an item it would have gone as an 'inability', which should (and I use the word should) have meant a request for spares on BAe for the airframe and Rolls Royce for the engine. And as for using the good ol' Chrismas tree, not a very good idea for 'C' class stores.

rb,
I think you may have meant to use the term 'No Unit Record' for the circumstances you describe. 'NIR' applied to a NSN that was not recognised - at least it did when I left although subsequent re-organisations may have changed that.

I know the RN are unhappy about losing the Harrier but did over 300 of their 'finest' air engineers really have to spend their 2 day conference chanting anti air force slogans and looking at pictures of RAF Police dogs?? Still, I supose they do have a lot of time on their hands. The bearded one will be so proud of his children.
"sticks and stones may break break our bones but the FAA still don't have any fast jets" I like this playground stuff, it reminds me of my youf.
Ps Love to know how much T&S was spent getting all those Captains, Cdrs and so on to and from the secret RN base near Gosport.
