OASC 'CANDIDATES' and WANNABES, PLEASE READ THIS THREAD FIRST!

I have been given a form asking for 5 to 10 years of info re:addresses ive lived at, parents addresses, criminal convictions and so on. Whilst I dont have anything I can think of thats a concern for the most part, I am concerned it is asking about whether I have had any defaults on credit.

After I spilt with my ex about 7 or 8 years back, she re-negged paying her share of the credit we had, most of which was in my name, and before I knew it i had a host of demands and short settled some stuff and had some accounts written off. Id imagine these would be classed as defaults, although I never incurred any CCJs.

Does anybody know if this will mean I will not be allowed to become an officer, intel or otherwise? I have a mortgage and other credit now & have paid everything ive had, on time, for over 5 years.

Insider knowledge or guidance from anyone in the know would be appreciated!!

the RAF frowns upon debt in future officers. IF you're in financial trouble, then i'd sort it ASAP. I've got a loan and a credit card bill still to pay off, but thats normal, its when you owe companies loads and have missed re-payments on bills countless amounts of times.

No, Im not in financial trouble now, it was all sorted by 2001/2002 but it would show on a credit record as a default. As I said, ive got a mortgage, credit card etc and have take out and cleared loans in the last 5 years. My concern is whether or not any defaults ive ever had would stop me from going further.

Obviously id rather find out soon or later!!

The info you are giving is for negative vetting, ie, a look-up will be done to check that there are no connections with known security risks (eg Al Q, North Korea, IRA etc.), at the addresses you have lived at while you were there.

I doubt they will do a credit check of any sort. That may come later if you are to be cleared above Secret, called positive vetting, but then a case officer will go over all of your history. You will then be able to show that you discharged your debts, and most importantly, that you are not at risk of blackmail etc. by virtue of needing more money than your RAF salary.

I think you can relax.

Well thats reassuring airborne_artist. I thought that it was to ensure that you are not at risk of blackmail due to large debts but (asides from mortgage) im in relatively good shape!

MWarby,

Why don't you contact Experion and see what they have to say about you? Then at least you would be prepared to give answers at interview.

Just answer the forms as accuratly as you can but don't answer questions that they do not ask if you follow what I mean.

We had a Nav Stude who was in severe financial difficulties and was assigned a mentor during IOT. He was straightened out (oh yeah) and commissioned. He then came to us. Next thing we knew he had an expensive new car on HP, 3rd Party Insurance, pranged, debt etc. Took us ages to persuade Innsworth to terminate his commission.

So, as A_A says, don't worry.

My eyesight results

Afternoon all,

Got my Results back from the Opticians yesterday and was given the following for both eyes

Left : Sph +0.50 Cyl -0.25 Axis 170.0
Right : Sph -0.50 Cyl -0.25 Axis 10.0

I think my Left eye was 6/5 vision and my Right 6/7.5 Not 100%

But will i still be O.K for R.A.F Aircrew?

many thanks for your time

Ndw

Rather depends if you actually have to wear glasses normally

I wore them for occasional reading & long studying at school & college, but thought 'They can test them & see if they come up their standard'

They were OK & I flew as pilot - later FJ WSO (another story) & didn't need glasses until 40+

Go to selection & take the test

Best of luck

Now Cricket would be a challenge.

Then again netball would be interesting at interview.

As long as you have you have the correct GCSE grades and 2 A levels then you can join.
Yes ... plus confidence, initiative, sufficient outside interests, motivation, leadership skills, a good level of fitness, a spotless medical history, a knowledge of current affairs and the RAF, and the rest!

The oldest age you can be is 23 and being 23 on the day of OASC if I am correct.
No. It depends on branch, and it is counted from the date you start training. For some branches you can apply well into your thirties, or even older for medical, dentistry, etc.

Look in this thread, you will find all your answers what you post in this thread.
Also try the RAF careers website, which has info on joining ages, the application process for graduates, etc etc.

AL - so you go back to the teacher (or their boss) and ask again. If they still refuse, ask what club/sport you should set up. It doesn't need to be in school - what about a club for kids outside of school?
