Once a military requirement for soldiers to be able to walk on water had been identified, tests began, first on extremely shallow water. Since no one sank, the early tests were proclaimed a success, and £100m was granted for research using slightly deeper water.

With cloth applied to the undersides, they proved excellent for polishing Barrack Room floors. Another win for QinetiQ.
