Machine gun fire soon brought the offensive to a halt, as recoil killed any fwd motion produced by the fitted engine.

The problems with the A-10's armament had been apparent from very early trials.

It's slow, cumbersome, ugly, ungainly and a bitter dissapointment, so the RAF have called it the Defiant.
