Crinkl ...

18 days off??? You've gotta be kidding:)

Now, all these new pilots get all the fancy new houses and apartments, while the old hands are stuck in their crippled, falling apart old houses due to the moving policy.
That isn't fair, is it?:}

gj18457 30th May 2007 10:14

Crinklestein,

Can you please tell us what trips you got in your bottom 2 bids. Also how did you calculate the upgrade time frame? Does Millenium tower have a balcony?
Do you have any problems with noise from the construction from the downtown development.Sorry so many questions to ask.

5man 30th May 2007 11:26

So right now i have 5100tt. Half of those on an 767 and bout 2000hrs on 320. Which fleet would they put me on? Currently on the 320.

Naughty, naughty. := In the interests of a balanced view, you didn't state that the 'old' Pilots remaining in their crippled falling apart villas are still there through choice. Every Pilot, new and old, was given the opportunity to move to a brand new 4 bed falling apart house up in Silicon Oasis. :ok:

Crinklstein 30th May 2007 12:36

5Man - To answer your question. It depends really. if they have a lot of 777 courses on when you join then it's going to be Boeing, otherwise its the other fleet. All they do is fill courses but to an extent they try and keep Boeing guys Boeing and AB guys Airbus. Its mainly Boeing courses these days.

gj18457 - my 2 bottom bids? 4 flights last month, they cancelled one and I hardly flew during my reserve month. They pity-worked me cos I was so bored. Oh and I didn't even bid for that June roster, so go figure. The Millenium tower doesn't have balconys apart from what I have heard, 2 or 3 floors. Noise? You're so far up, there is no noise. Listen, if you join you're going to get an upgrade...how did I work it out? I didn't "work it out"...that is what has been happening in reality.

I don't know about parking aircraft a lot of my mates have a very cruisy June roster...And some people said that they didn't have anyone to fly our "parked aircraft"...Call me...they dont cos the planes are flying fine. EK is ticking away quite nicely with or without us. So lets just all get used to that part of reality and pull our heads in.

Crinklstein seems to be a very happy chappy at EK, which is all fine and dandy, however this should not be at the cost of imprecise information.
F/O s upgrading on the Airbus are NOW 4 years since joining. Since we currently have just over 100 aircraft and the "final tally" is around 160 (subject to change of course, like everything else in the sandpit...), at a guess, I would imagine someone joining EK now as a F/O would require in excess of about 8 years to upgrade, after normal retirement, loss of medical, resignation rates etc.

I don't wish to shoot down your high hopes - and before anyone gets me wrong, I like it here - but it would be unfair to join EK with a misconception such as the above.

P.S. The millenium towers does not have balconies and all the windows are sealed (NO you CANNOT open any windows). Having said that, there may be an option to opt for other apartment blocks should you wish, although this is not guaranteed.

Upgrades to the left seat varies from 4years to 8years. Wow that is a huge diff if one is to join the emirates as a fo. So what is the real deal? 4 or 8? Does emirates provide tickets to fly over to dubai for the interview??

The only thing you can do is PREDICT an upgrade based on current information. It doesn't matter that upgrades are taking 3-4 years right now. That was for someone hired 3-4 years ago. Someone hired today will have to base their prediction on expected fleet growth and expected attrition rates. Those could easily change going forward. Fleet growth could come to a stop or it could accelerate. Attrition could come to a stop or it could accelerate. Nobody has a crystal ball and nobody can make a 100% accurate prediction. The airline could stop the DEC program or expand it. Lots of variables you see. It's all a crapshot. Good luck.

Just google millenium towers and it looks pretty good to me. Do they provide 2 or 3 bedrooms? Well i don't mind sticking on the right seat for 4years but longer than that I might have to reconsider since I have been on the right seat for 9years now.

Crinklstein 1st Jun 2007 11:45

Deep Pockets

If you're going to get a command on a 737 or A320 and if flying big jets with a fantastic route structure is what you want, then join Emirates. You'll get a command on a new 777 or 340 anyway sooner than you ever will in your present company. We have to look long term. Sure one might get a 737 command and that in itself isn't bad, but sometimes one has to give up a sure command for a better one down the road. What guarantee will you have that in 7 years, your present company is still operating. A lot of people don't know it, but EK will be a global airline and a force to be reckoned with. When it comes to banking on companies, I prefer to bank on the one with the deepest pockets and you can be assured that EK has very, very deep pockets. We are going to be here for a very...very long time.
