what is LHS, RHS?
I assume RHS = FO(right hand seat) LHS = CA(left hand seat) Is this correct? Why do you recommend FO seat over PIC time in a MD? |
Pilots come here for the "Big" airplane and "international " experience and dont give a thought to what they are giving up. Point is, its not as big a deal as you think it is to fly the "Big" airplane and go "international" . Dont let your pilot EGO decide whats good for your family. There is good and bad reasons for coming here, all im saying is think before you jump.

I am currently working for EK and reluctantly in the process of leaving. My experience of EK has led to my conclusion that moving to any company should be based on Ts & Cs and not the size/type of the aircraft. Many that have come to EK for the widebody/new aircraft and international routes eventually become disappointed as the terms and conditions fall below that of their previous job...in EKs case any 'comparable' job. Be aware that also any contract signed today has and will be changed by EK to suit themselves and there is nothing you can do about it. As for the lies, well for the many who expected their commands based on their seniority and experience within the company, who were then delayed significantly by policy changes on fleet transitions and the introduction of DECs, they were lied to. Lied to because they were quite blatently 'disadvantaged' by the company despite assurances to the contrary. As far as the DECs are concerned it would have been quicker for some of the F/Os involved to have remained with their previous carriers as captains and applied later as DECs... There were others where the brake was applied to their 'accelerated' commands as the criteria changed after they had joined... I'd call that being lied to too. They are now trying frantically to dig themselves out of a hole dug entirely by themselves. They are now even considering contract pilots 'temporarily' but if it works out it will be permanent enough to 'disadvantage' many. Instead of focusing on the real problems in an attempt to make EK the 'wannabe airline of choice' they are reverting to type and the myopic solutions which will inevitably cause more serious problems in the longer term. All I can say is be very careful in your choice to come here, especially if it involves giving up the chance for the LHS, and especially especially based on anything given out by EK HR/PR. Emirates Interview
What is the likelihood of getting hired at EK if references haven't been contacted two weeks after interview? No rejection letter as of yet but was wondering if hiring is predicated on referees being called. Made it thru the 3-day process. Thanks for input..Anticipation is killing me!!!

errr...if you can't wait more than three minutes for a reply to your post, or more than two weeks to find out about EK, you will definitely not be able to cope with day to day life in Dubai.
You may not have heard, but EK recruitment is a little busy these days...I don't think two weeks is long at all. Hang in there. |
Interview sim check
Hello all,
I was wondering if you are given a choice of seat for the FO interview simulator check. In other words, do they let you fly from either the LHS or RHS depending on where you feel most comfortable? Thank you much for this or any other information you can provide. O |
You get a choice of which seat you would like to sit in for the sim ride, whichever you feel most comfortable in. A training Captain will sit in the other seat :\

I've read the thread for a while, but I didn't find those one: I had an invitation for EK recruitment, and my roster was slightly busy last days, I will attend the selection process in several days. At a glance and in order to sum up: :} I guess I'll go through a sim check and a technical quizz the first day, I'll go through a group discussion day n°2. Personal interviews are scheduled on day3,. Is all of that correct? :8 If I get hired as a EK B777 F/O; for the time being, is the EK average time to get a command on this type (or other), around 5 years? :E Regardless the whole package, what is the after May, expected, F/O salary, in USD ? Could any one tell me? |
F/O salary after May 2007 ... something around USD5,400.00 gross.
Deductions are 5% provident fund, car loan (if you take it), pilot's club, family insurance. Time to upgrade ... only god knows. Policies change very often to suit company's needs. Depending on your experience, they might put you up for an accelerated command course, or freeze you in the right seat between three to five years. Airplanes are arriving fast, routes are being opened fast and unless some regional or world wide upheavel comes along, things look all right for a young pilot (in his thirties) at EK. They have no commitment with employees, though. Your aspirations are not the priority, sad to say, but this is like any other big business. I had my interview some fifteen years ago, so I am not the right one to give you info on that. I am sure some new guy can give you a better picture of the new hiring process. I know they are full of this CRM bull****, multicultural skills, democratic thinking, all this sort of crap:) The only time you would really be tested as a pilot would be in the sim assessment. You have to show that you can fly and manage the cockpit, even from the right seat. So, have a problem? Fly, assess, manage, action, re-assess ... something to that effect:E All the best |

I will attend the EK selection process as 777 F/O. To date I'm reaching 8000 FH :ugh: , mainly spent on medium and heavy jet, with a previous captain experience on lighter aircraft. Do you think EK may regard those elements to upgrade? |

Yes you'll be bonded for the first 3 years and I don't know what the figure is now but it will be substantial. In this current climate of pilot employment it may be worth shopping around before leaping into a bond agreement.

DEC in EK....???!!
Hey fellas.I've got about 13,500 hrs TT.About 6,000 of those in Command of 737 classics.Plus about 3,200 hrs in Command of 737NG's(all international routes).Total PIC time is approx 9,200 hrs.Am a recently upgraded TRI in my current airline(was a check airman for over a year).
Was wondering what were my chances in joining up EK as DEC. Would they even consider me.Thanks in advance. |
ya but be prepared to get alot of flak here on pprune, DEC 's are not highly regarded
