That seems pretty logical! QR has 6 380s? So many 330,340,350 captains why would you give some inexperienced newbie his first command on the flagship of the airline?

... and your point is? There are lots of factors that may have influenced this...

1) How many years in the company?
2) What's his overall widebody hours?... it's unlikely 2years on Type would meet the minimum requirements (even if a 380 Command was an option)
3) What's his overall Jet time?
4) Did he have any previous PIC before QR?

These are just 4 questions, there are probably more. The command requirements for 320 and Widebody are different. That said QR generally put you where the company needs you at the time and I am not aware of anyone getting a direct Command upgrade onto the 380 (and 350) yet... although certainly on the 350 with all the orders, it could start happening.

He is in QR since 5 years, he was a FO on the 320 before then since 2 years a FO on 380 and now a captain on the 320. I know there is no DEC on the 380, but I thought he could have had a chance on the 380.

But well it depends on the company, when I was working in United, I had a friend who was a captain on the 747 since 12 years and they put him as a captain on 320.

Luibar 7th Nov 2017 18:11

On my present company first command is always on the narrowbody fleet no matter how many hours you've got on heavies. I believe this is pretty much the norm on the industry.

I’m sure he’s not naive enough to think he’ll walk into an A380 command after 5 years in the company, and probably equally delighted to have you as his PPrune cheerleader...

Do Qatar employees receive profit sharing?

Mostly except seniority based airlines .:hmm:

In fairness, your description of events and conclusions drawn is inflammatory.
I believe the company procedure is to let the ground staff handle something like this and let the other 19 crew members go to the hotel. The health of a particular crew member is assumed to be good if they are flying. I'm sure she shared her private health history with you under the
assumption you would not share it on a public website.

4runner 11th Nov 2017 16:57

Yeah....my post is the problem. Good job Skipper. I applaud your leadership and thanks for pointing out your company policy and how it absolves you from your duties as the PIC of your aircraft. Un  believable.

4runner 11th Nov 2017 17:32

I’m sick and tired of people sticking their heads in the sand when something is “offensive” or in your words “inflammatory”. The events were as described. Sorry to offend your sensibilities with reality. Forgive the events for not being politically correct. Forgive the small, African girl, alone and in custody for offending you. Good job hiding behind policy. Thanks for pointing out that you are offended by my inflammatory post regarding actual events and your failure as the commander of your aircraft to lead your crew. You are not responsible. Forgive me if I offended you. Can’t make this  up...

I am amazed you post on here as if you know the correct story and the whole facts. Do you work for Qatar Airways and were you part of that crew with such event ? How do you know about this event and how it was handle. How do you know about the communications between the Commander and the company, what was discussed ?

Gustavo_CDT 11th Nov 2017 19:37

My last three companies had the same policy, any crew stuck with screenings in the US is handeled by ground staff and the rest continues to the hotel. Specially when you are doing long haul and have a 24 hour layover, and there is absolutely no authority as a PIC dealing with that.

4runner 11th Nov 2017 19:49

Spineless. Cowards. A disgrace to the uniform and the profession. Hiding behind policy and can’t make a decision. The SOP’s will save you.

BDD 11th Nov 2017 20:13

Just like you calling people names and hiding behind your keyboard!!!

Not quite sure who the spineless coward is here? I am leaning towards 4skin.

I am not one to comment much on these forums unless I really need to and this time I think I do....

I do work for the said airline and I too am a captain and I had a similar situation as well. I did stay with the crew at the airport and was in constant contact with the company. Once all the information was passed on, the ground staff took over responsibility of the crew member and was constantly in touch with me regarding her wellbeing. 6 hours later she was back at the hotel and deadheaded back to Doha since she didn't have the required rest to operate the flight back.

So before bashing the Captain and polishing your halo, I would suggest knowing all the facts before pointing fingers. I would aspire to be a captain that you seem to be and hopefully one day I will get a Halo of my own

Hey everyone,

I am looking for a little guidance.

I am an FO A320 close to 1000 hrs, from the UK, married with a 8 month year old son.

We currently live in Poland and actively looking to make a move now. Qatar seems a great choice on paper however after reading over the posts it does seem like hit or miss with some people, however I will be optimistic!

I am wondering if anyone can help out with a few questions -

A320 FO roster pattern/days off?

Average salary?

How goes the housing conditions, I know EK give pilot families a villa amongst other pilots which is really good

Many thanks :)
