ETIHAD changing requirements.
ETIHAD asking for 3000hr total jet,500hr of which on type,A330/340 or B777.
By comparison Emirates 10000hr,Qatar airways 6000hr.
Dose that maen that Etihad not having enough applicants?
So I guess, next they will ask for nonrated pilots to apply.

I understand that 3,000 hrs is for direct entry of A340. This is indeed very low. Doesn't Etihad think of Flight Safety. This number of hours is easily obtained.
Surely there are no many pilots for A340 around and Emirates had to changed its policy to accept Direct entry but they are very carefull in selectiobn and not anyone can get through until unles all requirements are met.
Youn, You may be correct but I thought that Emiraes hours is 5,000 and not 10,000.

I agree with you, 10000 hrs to get in to EK, bit steep I think. GT is 5000 hrs just to do the initial Command assessment, but 5500 hrs to get to the training. This I understand is absolute minimum!!!. The goal-posts change all the time, depending on requirements. If EY is doing that, then go for it, you won't get a better chance, EVER, in any reputable airline. Think the time is a trifle low. It erodes the experience base, not to say it means that much, but experience has got so many guys out of trouble, when the s--t hits the fan. Don't turn down a Command, you may never get the chance again. Maybe ICAO/JAR/ FAA,etc should come out with an absolute minimum. Surely by now, it shouldn't be left to individual airlines. ( I'm talking about proper airliners, not necessarily heavy).Any bloke who has 10000 hrs, knows it's taken the best years of his/her life to get it. Look at all the wrinkled faces. Too much time in the Sun? NOT!!!. Too much time in the glare, with squinty eyes.

It not hours, its hands on experiance you need. you can have 15,000 hours of which 10,000 are on a piper, but a guy with 3000 on an airbus is far better prospect. I assure you the selection at Etihad takes into account the persons actual experiance and not just those who have the most hours, its a little more complicated than just that.

I agree with you that EY selection process is very delicate.
My point was why have they reduced the numbed of hours required.
Some time ago in their web site the ad about recrewtment stated "If you are not rated do not apply"now this statement is not there any more.
Infact they are not turning down the nonrated applications.
however, thier reply is"we do not have a job for you at this time, but we will retain your application for future need".
That may indicate that they are not having enough applicants.
Any one in the know can shed some light.
THANX.

It just depends what your rated on really, If your rated on any Airbus then a CCQ is easy to arrange, not that EY are doing this currently, but it will come, however if your rated on an F27 or DC10, things are a little different.
For now though, unless you are 777 or 330/340 then you dont stand much chance till next year . For a direct left seat you still need at least 500 hours P1 on Type and to be current, ie 3 T/O and Lands in the last 3 months for either seat.
777 recruitment is about to start in the next few weeks too I hear! But there is no point if you are only 737/757 rated, for now they have enough applying that are rated, for now at least.

BBB, Come on give us a break! For anyone who has flown with a Captain, whose first command is on something like the Airbus, you will know what I am talking about. For me, if you have 10,000 hrs, even if it is on a Piper, you would be a better long term prospect than someone who has 100 hours on a Cessna and than 3000 hrs right seat on the Airbus, never having to make a decision on your own. Admit it, what it comes down to is they are too cheap to train guys. They will spend 7 billion dollars on airplanes, but NO WAY will they spend a Dirham on training.
And for Youn and Comet, the minimum requirements for an Airbus Captain with the GCAA (the local aviation authority) is 5500 hrs.

Easy on censorship!...
I noticed that several replies on this post were deleted yesterday.
Since none of this replies contained offensive language or other issues not allowed on this Forum, it seems that some Ppruner runners were definitely heavy handed on this regard...

Fullforward, this thread is titled "Etihad Changing requirements" - it had degenerated into slanging match (in which you were involved) concerning an ex-military skipper and some of his detractors. Absolutely nothing to do with Etihad. For that reason those posts were removed.

Dear 4Holer
Thank you for your explanation.
Differently from you, I could not positively identify that person as a skipper, not even as a pilot, from his previous posts.
I assume you know him. Nope, no idea who he is.
You´re right when you state the discussion deviated from the thread. But how many times it did happen on PPRUNE?
This ex-military skipper definitely touched a nerve with his post and it is reasonable to suppose he expected the kind of reactions he got
On my defense I must say I never descended to low language levels, as you can double check.
Hot debates is not all that bad, after all.
I apologize for any inconvenience. No problem, it's my unenviable task to try & keep some semblance of order. Hot debates are encouraged. Can we get on with this thread now or leave it to slip off the bottom of the page. Thanks for your understanding. 4HP

Does anyone have any FACTUAL info on changing jobs from EK to Etihad in terms of visas and having to leave the UAE ?
Would it be valid to thnk that if Etihad are having trouble getting rated and current pilots, then the government in Abu Dhabi would favourably view a move from EK without leaving the country.
Another way for the Abu Dhabi rulers to try and advantage their local operator.
(Or am I being too cynical?)

Youn, I hope you are not the one writing entries in the Tech Log. Coz' the engineers will need a spell checker before they can action the defects. BTW, dont take my comments too seriously ok ! For info, there have been two EK ( now ex ) pilots that went to Etihad interview. While none were successful, that shows there wasn't anything stopping people from moving south of Dubai. EK has taken quite a few pilots from GF and at least one from Air Arabia. Hope this will help.

Zomp, where you getting your info from but its wrong, cause there is no blanket policy, just look at every case on its merits, now that is a fact, trust me!!
EY has taken GF pilots, QR pilots and no doubt in time a few EK pilots, but not too many.

FACT.
Some time a go,bigining of this year, every month a number of pilots leave QR for EK,to the piont QR could not take it any more.
In order to stop this QR has raised the pilots pay to almost the level of EK pilot's pay.
And also agreed with EK not to poach pilots from each other.
rainforst,
Thank you for checking my spelling, please check this one also.
And do't worry i never take childish remark seriously.
Enjoy checking my spelling.
