Crikey why are you getting so hyped up over the JOC? Does the CTC AQC offer a JOC? Yes. Is it called a JOC? No. Sitting two weeks in a jet simulator seems like a decent orientation course to me.
See this link for the words 'Jet Orientation Course' if you must (its an old pdf but the course is identical to that of today).

Academcally yes. But what are it's minimum requirements for contents? What are it's defined objectives? Airlines can and do run them successfully but to do it and then not touch a jet for 2 years is aboslutely 100%edly pointless. You enjoy your JOC.

Beak,
The AQC course is clearly detailed on the CTC site. The JOC element is clearly separated from the MCC element and is covered in the last week, both ground school and sim. As pointed out above, there is officially, no such thing as a JOC - there is no certificate and it is not a rating, it is a transitional course designed to help those heading towards their first jet TR. No doubt the JOCs mentioned above had been deemed, by the CAA, to cover the required MCC syllabus. As far as I am aware, OAT define their single package course as MCC+JOC, so the whole issue is irrelevant anyway.
However, I think there might be some merit to the notion that if the MCC is performed in a full motion 737 sim with a reasonable amount of hand flying, the JOC is of potentially negligible value. But then again, it won't hurt and going into your first TR feeling all the basic bases are covered is a good thing.

hold pool
ok so whether or not the JOC is valid or not has been discussed thoroughly....the point is once you are in the hold pool even if it is 2 years wait will you eventually get hired out of that pool if you are ATP??
I don't mind waiting 2 years if i definitely get a job at the end of it....I can instruct until that day arrives and be a better pilot for it. However i'm more concerned about whether or not a job will materialise after 2 years or is this just a way for ctc to keep their mcc(+joc) course making a profit??
Once the job market picks up, the obstacle to ATP guys getting a job is whether or not there are too many cadets graduating each month to prevent any ATP guys getting selected. Maybe in a year or so the number of cadets graduating will have dropped off so much (due to the credit crunch ...people not having the money for training etc) that the ATP guys in the pool WILL get selected?? Just a theory...thoughts anyone?

I don't think the credit crunch affects CTC that much and I'm really looking forward to seeing what's going to happen to the growing pool within the next 6 months.
The JOC is a MCC, you'll get a legal certificate and you are free to prospect anywhere and at any time.

You'll find full details about the day further back in this thread, so a quick recap is:
- Introduction. A presentation on CTC and the scheme, and a chance to ask all those burning questions!
- Phase 2. You'll probably be split into two groups. One group will do PILAPT tests. Just relax, concentrate on your own workstation and not those around you. If you make a mistake, don't dwell on it. The other group will do a group exercise, which will more than likely be two group discussions.
- Short break.
- Groups switch around and do the other part of Phase 2.
- Lunch.
- Results of Phase 2. You'll be given one of three results: you've passed and will stay on for Phase 3; you've not passed but can reapply after (I think) 6 months; you've not passed and will not be invited to reapply.
- Phase 3. Personal interviews. These were competency based, just chatting about the things you've done, a few "give me an example of a time when...." questions, as well as a few general questions which it seems were trying to gauge your understanding of airlines as a business. Just relax, be honest, and understand that the interviewer(s) are not trying to trip you up. It's a chance to show what you're made of, and the interviewer(s) will already have read the 6 questions you answered before the day, so try and think about further examples of things you've done.
- Hometime! You should hear from them within a week, although I received an email the very next day.
Good luck, and enjoy the day. It's not as stressful as one might expect.

Do you guys think that purchasing programs like Cockpitweb or Pilapt Prep will worth it?
I mean, Cockpitweb costs £80 but i don't know if we only got one shot at the PILAPT tests at CTC.
If we have more tries ( or training before the real score ) probably i think that i don't need this kind of programs.
Thanks for the recap Captain_Scooby.
