jimbols6 - if you get through the selection, you may get the opportunity to go to a company for an extra interview (stage 5) and thus be offered sponsorship by a company throughout the course. If this doesn't happen, then you need an airline to sponsor you before you get to the stage in the training where you are ready to go to base training. Since the intermediate stage is roughly six months, then I beleive that this is what mooney was referring to. Out of curiosity mooney (and also for reference) who was your friend finally sponsored by? Was it one of the prescribed companies, or some other airline that need new pilots?

BigDunc, stage 3 on next tuesday! ooer! For some bizarre reason, I've been looking forward to it for quite a while and have been waiting rather impatiently to d it (although I'm sure I'm going to be a little stressed nearer the time).
Her'es hoping.
Any fellow ppruners going on the 25th?

Mooney 12, I can only assume your friend was on the CTC ATP scheme as only 1 course of CTC Mcalpine sponsored cadets has started their type rating so far - and all of the first 10 courses were pre-sponsored. So no-one has so far had to wait any time for a job.
Caracul, the intermediate stage is 3 weeks. I think 6 months refers to the hold pool for the ATP scheme.
Cheers

Hi,
I was wondering if someone could tell me what the questions wereg which we had to answer at stage 1b. It was over a year ago since I did that and I can't remember what they were!
I have the interview next week and I know they ask you about what you wrote. I would just like to familiarise myself with the questions again before I go.
Thanks
ps
These are the 7 tests used by CTCMcAlpine at stage 2. Worth having a look.

finance again...
Hi all.
returning to matters of a fiscal nature I'm afraid.
I think we had some agreement on it costing the cadet ~£100k out of salary over 7 years.
M4v3r1ck had summed up the comparison with a self funded intergrated course pretty well.
2 points are:
- the £100k reduction is from gross salary and might be the equivalent of taking about £65k from net salary.
- this is still a premium over a self funded integarted course but we get a type rating and best chance of a job
Therefore, I still think all in all that this is a better deal for risk averse wannabes than a self funder integrated option.
HOWEVER, lets look at it from the airlines perspective:
They take us on and save £100k out of their salary payments. Now i believe employers NI contributions on employees salaries would add 12.8% to this saving.
Now does the cost of all this training the cadet receives really add up to £128k???
CTC would have us believe it costs about £100k but even this I would question (plenty of other posts on this thread have argued this).
My belief is that EJ are using this as a cheap way of recruiting their future pilots!!

KEO -
Whats your point? I'm pretty sure that any airline wants cheap pilots. However, I'm also sure that airlines are never going to sacrifice quality so that they can spend less.
If you are so negative about the scheme, the course of action for you is simple. Don't apply.

keo this scheme is a brilliant oportunity for people like myself who have just finished alevels and can not afford a massive loan....the docking of salary is far better for me than having to convince a bank to lend my the money without good job prospects...
i have completed the selection and pending my Class one will be heading out to NZ in aug....let the good times role....

Hi pilots!
I'm not quite sure if the described selection process also fits to the CTC ATP-Scheme and not only to the Cadet-Scheme. Could anybody confirm that?
Best regards!

Hey,
A question mainly for guys currently on the scheme:
What is the accomodation like in NZ? How many people from your course do you share with (2 or 5). How far outside of Aukland city centre do you live? Whats it generally like to live out there and what do people do at weekends? (I heard there is a club in Auckland that is chilled to -5 degrees C at all times and all the furniture is made of ice. Hmm - sounds worth a go!)
Cheers

Hiya,
I have a couple of questions for the guys/girls out in NZ.
For your stage 3 interview did you have a lot of knowledge of the industry from years past as well as being up to date with current issue/events?
What did you do exactly for stage 4?
I have my stage 3 (resit) in sept and was advised, indirectly, to brush up on industry issues and interviewing techniques.
And how is the training scheduled out there? Do you have the same days free each week. Have ground school all day/part day mixed with flying. Trying to figure it out comparing to the schools here ,and how long they are, and it seems like a lot to do in a short space of time out there.
And to Mooney12, can't speak for those out there, but living out there is awesome. Lots of space, great food (curries ain't as good tho), great people. The weather has its days. I am biased of course as I'm from NZ.
I believe the school is at Ardmore which is 20 0dd mins from the city centre on a good day, bad day, a long time. Public transport sucks tho, but some pretty good pubs. But from the amount of work you have to do I wonder how much time you really get to live it up. Not much I would imagine.
Anyone else in the same boat as me regarding a resit or stage 3 in sept??
Cheers

The interview is split into two parts. Firstly about you, examples of how you have worked in teams, when you have taken responsiblity, what is your greatest achievement etc.. (prepare for these questions. i.e. sit down and think of good examples of when oyu have taken the lead and worked within a team etc....)
Second part of the interview is more technical and industry. You need to know:
What major changes have occurred recently in the British airline market.
Why are low-cost airlines successful
What does the future hold for low cost airlines
How do you think major carriers such as BA have coped with this.
What do you think the future holds for the charter industry in the UK.
You also need to think about such questions as:
As a FO what would you do if your captain decided to take on a course of action that was against airline rules.....
Stage 4 is now conducted on the 737-700 static sim.
You:
Take off, climb, descend. Straight and level, medium turns, steep turns (this is hard), ILS approach, landing. All IFR.

I assume the "All IFR" is for people with relevant experience or does this reply refer to the ATP scheme?
No complaints if it is, 737
Thanks in advance,

Jon,
It is all IFR in the sense that you're using the instruments as reference rather than visual (but you're certainly not doing NDB holds or anything). You get talked through everything very clearly. If you are able to take in what you are told and learn reasonably quickly you will pass. If you have no flying experience they will account for that. There's plenty of info on stage 4 if you read every page of this thread (that is if you have about a week to spare!!!).
Good luck
ps, as for the sim you use, i imagine its just whichever one is not in use at the time
