Where did the link for the CP16 website go? I was wanting to look at that!

ps: for everyone who wants questions answered, read through the thread I would bet your questions have already been asked and answered.

Well there you go, this can only be good news for the scheme.

I suppose its only to be expected considering there are basically no sponsorship schemes around so CTC will get all the best candidates.

Hi captyous

I recently went for stage 2 (about 4 weeks ago and have subsequently done 3 and 4) and what you can expect is what I imagined it to be.

A sums test (get practicing doing your sums without a calculator!) which obviously is designed to put you under a little bit of time pressure but not too much!

A group discussion around one of three current affairs topics which was interesting and actually enjoyable.

And the big on is the computer aptitude tests. These are OK but hard (obviously, they don't make any excuses for having tight selection criteria) but don't worry too much if you feel like you've done really badly when you finish. The whole room thought they had failed when I did it and I went to the next phase with three of them!

Good luck and make sure you get a good nights sleep and a decent breakfast!

No one seems to talk about how they completed section 1a of the application form here, but I apologies if I missed it. I don't think it's necessarily obvious how you're meant to interpret the questions. For example, there's not room to write all the (many) attributes of the airline pilot of the future and then provide examples of how you match each one, so are you meant to list them and then say 'and I'm all of that'!

Anyone else find this, or have I just failed at the first post!!

penguina my friend, obviously if there isn't a huge amount of room you dont need to go into a huge amount of detail - lets use a bit of common. Just write the obvious ones down such as skill, judgement, experience, teamwork and leadership. Good communication and eyesight should also be included and if it says so, briefly explain how you have these attributes. I dont recall them asking about how you fit the criteria of a future airline pilot so just stick to the question. One keyword is FUTURE so try and think how things may change - more complex aircraft and navigation instruments perhaps. Finally another good one is being able to think for yourself!!!

To be honest if you are struggling here, you are going to find the remaining stages pretty hard going. Sorry, it's a harsh but fair comment i feel.

Guys,
The 30 july phase 2 is for the CTC ATP selection, so I don't think there is a computer test...

Rusty,

Aye a bit harsh mate!

Penguina,

As long as your answers make good sense and you demonstrate that you know what you are talking about (plus good grammer and spelling of course) you should have no problem. I remember spending several hours writing and re-writing my answers and wondering if I sounded like a muppet. Which I did! The essay questions are important but as long as you make an effort with them there is no need to worry.

As for criteria for a future airline pilot and how you meet those; yes tough one as you don't want to come across as full of yourself but also you want to suggest that you have the skill/experience/potential to match those attributes. For example things like evidence of teamwork, working with customers - if you tell them you have some past experience of those two and have both academic and non-academic qualifications that would suggest your potential to fulfill the role of a team player and cope with the cerebral side of flying I'm sure you would be on the right lines.

If on the other hand you told them you were bloody brilliant at everything, your dad is a BA Training Captain and you were the most popular person at school - not to mention captain of the footie and rugby team and therefore, in your opinion, already had all the required skills in abundance, and would make a first rate airline pilot, I doubt you would fare so well.

Saying you feel you have some of these skills is fine, as long as you can back that up with evidence of why you think that, and be prepared to demonstrate it at the interview phase!

I'm sure you will have no problem, good luck with the next stages.

Thanks, BitMoreRightRudder, that is helpful. That's pretty much what I thought - if you have thought hard about what you need to be, the likelihood is you'll already have taken steps towards becoming this and have some idea of how to continue developing into the role.

When you're dealing with the unknown it's tempting to think a little too hard about everything in your anxiety to get it right, which I think is the real problem. (Rather than failing to have a sensible thought in my head... )

Praps i was a bit harsh BitMoreRightRudder but as i said, pretty fair! The stages dont get any easier and Penguina, to ask how to fit a few paragraphs of common pilot attributes into a small section asks the question how are you going to fair when faced with having to build a totally random working model out of little bits of plastic (one task for stage 3). They didnt ask me to give examples of how i have developed these skills so if they don't ask i'd advise not to put them in. Just my opinion, Hope there's someone out there who agrees!! Didn't mean to offend you but CTC will be much harsher than myself! Finally, good luck anyways

Rusty_207. Your being too harsh, perhaps slightly arrogant as well. Each stage requires the upmost effort.

In view of the fact that only 40% of people get to stage 2 you really need to wind your neck in.

Rusty

I agree loosely with what you are saying - the stages do get more difficult as you move through the selection process, but I'm sure the vast majority of applicants would be aware of that!

Also Penguina does not appear to me to be struggling with the questions at all, simply asking a perfectly reasonable question regarding a stage of selection that I didn't find a walk in the park either. (And the mecchano tractor I helped build with my team at stage three was pretty good in my humble opinion

As Fred4000 says, each stage is important, as each is essentially pass or fail.

I'm not trying to have a go at you, everyone sees things differently etc, but flaming someone for asking a question, particularly on wannabes, is a tad unfair. Penguina, I would argue, is demonstrating a thorough approach to the selection process.

This thread was an enormous help to me during selection, and I would recommend that anyone going through the process read every page (yes I know it's long ) but in particular the post with the link to the Kent Uni website is very useful for stage 3.

I take it from your posts that you have passed selection Rusty - congratulations and I look forward to seeing you out here.

Hi Jonathan,

I am out there for Stage 2 of the application on 20th July. I assume you are also. Where abouts are you staying?

Lee

Actually, after having read another of your posts I see that you have already been. Just taking an interest in others who are going?

Out of interest how do the tests compare to the RAF apptitudes? Has anyone experienced both?

Lee

How did it go for everyone who went along on the 20th? And also, what was the discussion subject? Could anyone who's been along give me a clue as to the discussion topics? Are they just general recent news topics? i.e. Is it worth taking a close look at all news articles in the upcoming weeks?
