Come on guys!
Crew food isnt THAT bad....or is it? The crew food at my airline has got progressively better.....I think the ideal crew food...infact ANY food consumed when flying, should be something light and easily digestible. Also I think it should be convenient and not require too much preparation.......at the end of the day u cannot please everyone and I think some crew would NEVER be happy even if Raymond Blanc was the inflight chef !!!!!!

I'm not unhappy about the crew food we get. The meals are good, and we never get hungry.
I only wish there were more vegetables and less snacks (we get a platter of fruits however...too bad they need to be peeled and often you don't have the time). In fact we get too many of them (in our company they stress a lot the fact that you shouldn't be hungry, and eat in order to prevent hypoglycemia and always be 100%), and all way too fattening: sandwiches (like smoked salmon or ham with tons of butter), rice pudding, cereal bars. I'm not complaining, better this than nothing, but if I ate 1/10 of what they give us I'd be 80 Kgs in a couple of months. One day I decided to keep all the snacks I was getting for 6 days work: at the end I had so many chocolate bars, cookies, cereals bars and similar, that when I put it on my kitchen table and showed my family no one believed I was supposed to eat ALL that in just 6 days.
I spoke about the problem to the Company Doctor when I had my annual Medical check, and she said it was a common complaint.
So, to avoid the Whale Syndrome, I often take size-friendly snacks like bananas (easy too peel!), biologic apples I already washed home, sugarless cookies, crackers etc.

Our crew food is a waste of time. We have a crappy sandwich on bad bread, soft drink and a packet of crisps.
Does not really fill you up on a longer flight. Wish we had hot meals as crew food. We do not serve hot meals to pax, just snacks and drinks. We do have ovens onboard, however, we do not use them unless we bring our own food, such as pizza!!

Hi FLYBLUE<
Believe me u should not complain! You are lucky to have so many choices! At our airline we dont have nearly as much stuff as u do.....and after all, no one is putting a gun to ur head forcing u to eat it! Its about choice, and a crew members own personal taste....and ur fortunate enough to be able to "linger" over the grub counter....!!!!! As I said before, eating on board is mostly about having something quick and easy to eat.....CONVENIENCE!
I remember when I was flying with one of the big charter carriers, the crew used to love their packs of sarnies and chocolate bar, not to mention the cheese board!!! I am sure alot of us would be 15 stone overweight if we ate everything that we fancied, everytime we looked at it ! Now I am sounding food obsessed ....better leave it at that !!! Have fun!!!

crew food
i agree with you starbux! we just ned a quick snack to get us started and to be honest there is always plenty of pax food left over for the greedy ones!crew dont need any more excuses to be putting on weight..(BA have a new uniform approaching time to shed those extra pounds i'd say!) some crew spend the entire flight stuffing themselves and then have the nerve to say at the end of the flight.."god i feel really bloated today it must be the cabin pressure"...no love..its the 4 hot meals,2 desserts and 3 cheese plates that did it!

STARBUX,
I thought I wrote I was not complaining. But if the company has to spend money for snacks, don't you think it is a constructive attitude to make our wishes for something more to our needs known?

Crew food... whats that ?
Hilarious hearing you guys complaining about crew food.
At the regional i work for crew food is not provided.
Sometimes there are pax meals left over. (but whatever you do, dont eat them in glasgow during a turnaround!)
So its packed lunches that are up to 12 hours old or crappy ready meals that are full of all them things the medics tell you avoid!
If youre lucky you get time on turn round to go into the terminal and buy something equally crappy....but only 8 hours old

The problem with complaining about crew food to your employer is that there is always a chance that they will decide to not provide it at all! My employer recently removed the PA music from the aircraft (played during boarding/disembark) because the annual costs were circa £30K: You can bet your life that they have and probably still are, looking at cost cutting in the area of crew food.
Personally, I know that my employer has to date put a lot of work into that area, and I am happy with the results. Any meal that you eat repetitively is going to get dull (even though crew food menu's are rotated daily on a week long basis). This is one of the few areas in which I would congratulate our office backup staff on the work they have put in.
Whoever gets the job of managing Crew Food is basically on a hiding to nothing - you can't win, whatever you do! I always give my crew the option of first menu choice (on principle), and there are occasions when I take what's left, and find myself staring worriedly into something that I suspect may be roadkill stroganoff as a result. It usually tastes better than it looks, however, and certainly tastes better than nothing - which is a very real option!

catering
Hi guys and girls....I really really want to be a flight attendant but at the moment i'm working in catering...doing various things...hopefully QF will start recruiting soon!
ANYWAYS....
I see what the crew get for food and I must say that some meals tend to be repitive snacks! Some meals would be slightly I should think that for someone who is working shiftwork at high altitudes a balanced diet is very important!
I personally think there should be more selection of fresh fruits and fine salads, all the baked stuff is just going to pile on so easy! I know what you guys are getting onboard and I think it needs a little more attention. It's not just a choice of what is yummy or yuck ...it's long term health/fitness and work performance.
I really hope to be flying soon

I agree with TightSlot, there may be a point when u find the crew cart.....empty! I realise that u arent complaining SkyBlue, like I said its all about having the choice. At one of my previous airlines that I worked for, if u did have any special dietary needs, such as wanting a low fat option , then u could request such a meal on each flight that u operated. I understand that that may not be available on every airline tho.
Most of the girls on our airline prefer bringing their own low fat meal onboard , and I think they like it that way. They can control their own individual food consumption more easily. I have to say that also there is the question of space availability on some aircraft, this makes it much more difficult for the catering guys to load ENOUGH of each choice , such as more fruit etc.
Safe Flying!!!!!

I cant complain about the crew meals Qantas provide us with in shorthaul. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is usually a hot with a salad (lunch and dinner) (breakfast with rasin bread and plain), with a couple of choices (dependant on service) as to which hot you want. If lunch is not hot its either a cold chicken/beef/salmon salad, which in my eyes are the healthiest options.
Refreshments consist of sandwiches and a chocolate. I agree though that some of the meals consist of some not to kind to the figure things...I just dont eat that part All up, the airline looks after us well methinks

Our crew meal is compossed of a meat/salad roll or lavish bread, a chocolate, piece of fruit, or some crackers. I think it's suitable. It's not first class, but our duty's are quiet short, so there is always time to run into the terminal in between flights and get something else if we choose. Most crew tend to bring there own low fat/ healthy options from home. There is always plenty of pax food left over if you are really desperate.
If I have bought my own from home, I give my meal to the baggage handlers or cleaners. They love it, as they are not supplied with anything. That way it doesn't get wasted, and also makes someone else happy. Worst case senario, I bring it home and give it to my dog. He adores it!
Some crew complain about the crew meals, but I have never had an employer provide me with meals before, so I am grateful.
