Arrow Pax!!!!!

Is everyone else out there who flys on the other side of the cockpit door, just getting a tad annoyed with the pax? They are getting ruder and ruder, we had this guy last night (last on, of course) Had a really heavy bag, but didn't want it under his seat, well when we said it would ahve to be stowed, he wanted to get off!!It's not a bus for god's sake! But this is mild, we have them everyday....it's crazy..heard a story recently of an F/A telling a pax to F. off! She got the sack, but god wouldn't you just love to do that sometime!!!!

sure you get the a--h----, but you should fly some of the carriers i have recently, the CC need to go to school to be civil, birdseed is among the top contenders, one thing i found if you get the right attitude gate staff you do not get the problem on board

How right you are Jaguar. Cabin Crew are employed for their diplomacy, empathy, patience and above all tolerance. There are some crew out there that don,t realise that these hissy fit throwing morons do keep us employed and that biting back will only make the situation worse for both parties. Also the airlines have screwed up by forming alliances with international and domestic carriers and have not changed cabin baggage size and allowance causing not only delays but stress for both pax and crew. Add to that baggage handlers who refuse to come and collect bags that have been refused as cabin baggage at the gate lounge and it makes me wonder why some people even bother flying. I have had my fair share of idiots and have felt like telling them where to stick that bag , but if we are supposedly offering a service that is friendly and seamless maybe we have to sort out some of the staff first.
One thing I've learn't...no matter what you do to help, some people are just a***holes

And remember it takes 42 muscles to frown and only 4 to extend your middle finger and tell them to "firk off"

Yeh, have to agree with you there qdog, the baggage issue is a problem, I guess you need to inform pax as best you can BEFORE they fly on baggage restrictions, maybe that would cut down on the dramas at the gate! Most F/As I have seen have been pretty good with temperament, I guess after years of having people slag off at them, it can get you down, my girlfriend was on a flight recently when a pax told the cabin manager to f... off because HE changed flights, and there was no room in business class for him to be upgraded.......I wonder how many people tolerate that sort of abuse in thier jobs? Not too many I don't think....and then you are supossed to turn around and smile ever so sweetly to the next pax, easier said than done, when someone applies for the position of F/A, I don't think they mention that one at the interviews!!!!!!

Cool

My oh my aren't we all a very violent lot! lol I seem to hear this argument over and over again. Let me lend some professional experience. At the end of the day it is simply a matter of working together with the ground staff. I simply inform the Dispatcher BEFORE boarding commences that he/she WILL ensure that the baggage is of a reasonable size and weight while they are coming through the last check point and if this doesnt happen I will personally remove unacceptable baggage from the passengers and then have him organise the bags being placed in the hold and any delays encountered WILL be put against him/her. It works every time without fail because the one thing a dispatcher cannot afford is a delay especially when it is put down to him/her. Regarding the passengers and some of their arrogance and rudeness ..... well I find the best medicine for rudeness is heaps of kindness. Why? Well there are two reasons really 1)The passenger may have a genuine reason for being p***ed off and may just need a moment to vent his anger and the problem may even be soemthing you can fix!! 2)If the passenger rants and raves then you just be nice and speak calmly (yes I know what you are thinking ... this is soem psycho babble BS) but it is true that it takes two to argue and if you remain calm and collected things will pan out. There are however those idiots (trust me I DO have better descriptions for them) but they are few and far between and you shouldn't let them spoil your day. After all they are the ones who have to live with themselves every day not you so don't get to bogged down by them. On that happy note I wish you all the best and hope that you all have many safe trips and earn loads of allowances!!

BA Purser ..you are the messiah, clone yourself immediately. From the other side of the curtain (too small for a real door) cabin crew are there for pax saftey and if they dont like it F##K them, yes they pay the bills , but this isn't a bus service, there are limitations based on 80+ years of flying. As HK last week proves , even the best have cvrashes and the worst have more.
So lets get away from the culture of mpre gin & tonic and into the culture of more nomex.

May I jump in from an outside forum and just say as both a "driver" and frequent PAX from EMA that I think you all do an outstanding trade. The crap that you all put up with and deal with in an exemplary manner speaks volumes not only for your trining, but for your personalities and personal qualities!!!!!
Having had many conversations on final approaches with members of the cabin crew, it is quite clear that in general you all enjoy your profession and that overcomes the a***hole element that you must encounter on each and every sortie.
You are an appreciated and unique species!!!

PS Thanks to all you "Diamond" employees!!

Like Dunx,

Thanks from me too. I could never have the patience or diplomacy to do your job. At least I only have to deal with pilots, pax are a million times worse I bet !!

Keep up the good service Diamond crew on the LHR-GLA-LHR runs. Seem to spend a lot of my life on those these days.

PS You can tell who I am since I think I'm the only one that pays attention during the safety briefing

Your work IS very much appreciated both by Pax and even the flight deck.
My better half quite often comments on how hard the passengers were to deal with for the cabin crew etc, and that they (CC) have the patience of saints. I entirely agree. (We're both FD.)

Thank you!

Have to say that my experience with the cabin crew onboard the big US carriers leads me to understand the incidences of air-rage a little bit better! They seem to be amongst the laziest, rudest, most sarcastic bunch of old biddies it is possible to find. If they would spend as much time trying to get rid of the 'extra pounds' as they do in finding ways to be unpleasant to the passengers, then perhaps their airlines would have some hope. My grandmother wouldn't work with people that rude, but then again she is a bit young to associate with them..!
