Red face The bigger the aircraft the bigger the p.........

I don't know about anyone else here, but I've found lately that the bigger the aircraft, the bigger the p..... of a Captain, twice in the last week, visits to the cockpit refused ( on a daytime 3 hour flight) because "I'm too tired" Well I'm too tired to serve tech crew sometimes, give me a break!!!!! And today "only if they ask- don't go offering!" What do you say to the cute 6yr old on their first flight," Sorry the Captain is too tried, even though you've paid $500 for your fare!" Come on guys how about a bit of support for the cabin crew, and the pax as well......it's just sheer laziness...and some of you can leave your attitude at the front door too.........!!!!!

I actully think they mean that the some egos are getting that large to compensate for small p**** syndrome, there is no excuse for being anything other than polite to those people that you work WITH and to those people who are paying you salary. (the pax)

I've flown over 10 years and find most Captains are willing to have children visit the cockpit - some however do make them feel far more welcome than others. I know of one AN Captain who had a bad experience he's never gotten over, a child projectile vomitted all over the 767 centre control panel. Perhaps one can understand him not allowing visits. A far more imaginative excuse than simply too tired. Perhaps "Captain Too Tired" should get off fatigued and let someone else make his money!

TCM??, Please enlighten me my dear !
With regard kiddies visiting up front, I personally have no problem with this as long as we are not too busy. An ideal time is during the cruise (just after I've finished my times crossword .....ONLY KIDDING).
Quite often they can be very entertaining, and who knows, maybe someday they'll decide that they too want to be a pilot, and I can rest happy that I've recruited a whole new generation of misfits into the business.
Remember though, kids are attracted to bright-coloured things, watch those FIRE-HANDELS !!!!

Cool

Guys and girls this simply comes down to communication and initiative. It helps to have a chat with the flight crew before you get the request to see the flight deck. That way you know ahead of time what the answer is gonna be. Also as said above do realise that the workload on the flight deck is different to the one in the cabin so be appreciative that the best time is during cruise and NOT during descent .... landing ..... etc I must admit you will meet some of the old prats about and I agree that sometimes yo have to deal with the kids after this and I personally had to do so recently. A couple of ice creams and airplane posters later and they were beaming big smiles ear to ear. Remember you MUSTN'T let a prat get to you (that counts for crew and pax) because it will only serve to bring you down and that is a waste of YOUR time and energy. The idea is to have fun and enjoy yourselves!!!

Thumbs up

Hi,
This is the first time that I feel I can contribute to this forum. Over the years I have had many superb experiences - jumpseat rides etc. I have always thanked not only the pilots - but also the cabin crew as well.

I feel that I have been "helped out" many times by cabin crew - in terms of asking the Captain if it would be possible to go to the cockpit - or indeed to send letters to the Captain at the start of a flight.

I would just like to thank you all very much, as people like myself appreciate all of the help you give us - and the fact that we often cause you extra work. So I would like to say thank you on behalf of everybody for the service that you provide - and also for the "extra" services that you carry out for people like myself - I appreciate it very much.

If anybody here normally operates from EGCC (Manchester International) - then I may see you some time.

Regards and Thanks

Let me just put an 'observation' here. I've heard a good few captains complaining about 'near-misses' with kids trying to fiddle with the centre panel controls etc., so they (the flight deck) have to keep their eye on them quite closely. If they're busy, it creates extra workload that they don't really want, especially when they're tired. I think that's what they worry about - uneventful quick visits seem to be OK, but it does increase the flight deck's workload especially when the visitors are kids. I know that cabin crew work very, very hard, but I hope you can understand that the flight deck can be under pressure - if the kid (or adult) does something wrong, it's still the captain's responsibility. At the end of the day, the flight deck, in particular the captain, always risks losing his job every time he goes to work - and things easily go wrong. Many just want to reduce the risk of something going wrong.

Working for the world's favourite and also holding flying licences (Albeit not UK professional ones) I always try to visit the 'deck during my trips. Through your forum, I would like to thank all of the hard working flight attendants and tech crew who always seem to take my request in their stride, and are generally helpful and courteous. I have been priveleged to see many wonderful approaches in all sorts of weather and have been treated with high professionalism throughout.

So, Thanks to all you friends and colleagues out there who indulge a "boy's" wishes when I fly.

Tailwinds

PS - I have also seen some total saddos exhibiting rudeness and ignorance....perhaps they are the ones who dont get to see the front office?

I can only say a heart-felt word of thanks to all the cabin crew who have brightened my day/night with a cheery visit to cockpit, usually sporting a hot cup of tea! I appreciate their efforts to look after me and do not now nor have ever taken them for granted. I would also add that on occasion, when tired, grumpy and generally not at my best, I may have come across as slightly less than sociable....! It is perfectly acceptable to tell me i'm a 'miserable git'......!! Cheers.

I work for a charter airline and since I got my command I have had a simple philosophy - good customer service pays dividends. Our passengers fly once or twice a year and some are a little apprehensive. I do my bit by welcoming them aboard personally from the front and also accepting any number of flight deck visits provided it's smooth and fits in with what SWMBO or HWMBO at the front of the cabin wants. We have a great variety of folks up front, it passes the time, adds to customer service and keeps us awake on night flights. To anyone who has had a bad experience - forgive and let the passengers come up - they really do appreciate it and after all - they keep us in a job.

Do you think so? I always find the more senior ones bid for the 737, as it has the best ratio of F/As to pax on it! So although the tech crew can be s hit, the pursers are younger, and well groover.!!!!!!!!!

Nav light.
Just caught up with this thread and would like to clarify something. Since eventually all copilots become captains and you assert copilots have big privates does this mean that when they make captain there is a sudden shrinkage?

Could be quite a disincentive!

Ummm ptero, haven't noticed any major nasty effects a FO's penis size has had on me. Come to think of it, a captain's penis hasn't had any nasty effects either! Always play safe
So as a female pilot, there are no nasty effects.

Red face

Well, if becoming a captain alledgedly makes the penis smaller, then maybe my err, equivalent gets smaller too? Now, hmmmm.....knowing my luck, my boobs will get smaller
Sorry for getting off topic.
