Got the phone call on Monday morning and then off to the medical yesterday. Got an e-mail regarding being unsuccessful when I returned home from the medical which was an apparent mistake! I now have been told to wait for 4 weekes before I will hear from them again.
Have you heard anything yet Skystar?

I also got a phone call to attend a medical on Monday morning, they'd already booked a time in for the medical on Tuesday when they rang. Now its just waiting again....! I'd been to the assessment day on the 10th of November.

Hi there Sailorgal, i was told that we would be notified by today... hmmm!
Apparently they have already selected 16 Syd based applicants to start on Jan. This was from an earlier intake... I attended the assessment center on Nov 14th. Completed the last of my shots today at the Medical center. The receptionist told me a number of applicants where very anxious as they too did not receive a call. She also said that everyone passed the medical stage except for person who was below the required height measurement...
Anyway... will post new info as i hear it.
Wishing you and everyone on this forum a very Merry Christmas and hopefully a happy, healthy and successful 2007 with some great news coming our way soon. God that would make my Christmas...

Thanks for that update Doohan! I was told 2 weeks a while ago, but I stopped counting so i can't remember when that was supposed to be! Given that the weekend and half of next week are all public holidays, i did sort of assume that they would get things wrapped up by today, before they close their office for the whole Xmas period. (Or am i being a little presumptuous - maybe they only close on the actual public holidays?)
Seeing as i didn't get a phone call today i was assuming i'd have another rejection email in my box today but no word at all as yet, so maybe i'm still in with a chance.... only time will tell i guess.
Good luck doohan and have a wonderful xmas

Wondering if anyone could help....
I am LHR, locally recruited australian crew. I am considering returning home. We are not able to transfer to Qantas Australia and would need to resign and re apply. As a MAM casual, does this ever lead to or has it in the past, lead to offers of Full Time contracts?
Any advice would be really appreciated.
Thanks

Casualisation is used by business in Australia to avoid paying employees a living wage.
A living wage that affords individuals the ability to participate in society through benefits [that were once the norm] such as sick leave, holiday pay, superannuation and stability of income.
My understanding is that there is a "token" program of transfer to fulltime but with in excess of 1000 MAM casuals employed as shorthaul FA's your chances are next to nil.
Whether or not this situation continues will be largely be determined by the outcome of this years federal election.......

Under a labour government it is likely that if you are doing a full time job, and working full time hours then you cant be classified as a casual.
The IR laws are allowing the casualisation of full time jobs. Perhaps a Labour government will reverse this trend

Casualization was "sold" as a concept by business to the wider community as a way to manage their labour requirements around the peaks and troughs in the business cycle.
It enables them to put on staff during busy times and put them off during the slow times.
UNTIL HOWARD CHANGED THE RULES business was forced to give contract/casual staff full time positions if the length of their employment extended beyond 12 months as clearly there were positions for them.
This restriction prevented business from doing what it is now.......
Using casualization to avoid the need to provide "first world" terms and conditions to it's staff.
Young people in Australia have so much to lose in the "global labour market" with what is happening at Qantas is just one small example.
The [baby boomer generation] government ministers so hell bent on stripping the conditions from young average workers ALL entered the workforce at a time when the working community had the benefit of FREE university education, 40/38 hour 5 day working weeks, superannuation, holiday pay, long service leave and the like......
I worry that the next generation will have none of these and that their lives will be all the poorer for it.
However I worry more that all they seem to be interested in despite these dangers are big brother, idol and whatever else passes for distraction at the moment......

Hopefully you and a couple of others get to read my post as I expect it to disappear.
