thanks for the info

Dear OE

Thank you for info. I know it seems crazy to travel across the continent for this. I've been to an open day and have been invited to a prelim interview. Although I am a dark haired female, I'm not gay. Hopefully my skills and personality will be enough.

Take care Blu

There were a few chaps in front of me during the Open Day with Masters Degree etc...

My questions, how much of your educational qualifications play a part in getting through the interview or even landing a job ?

I'm comparing to, Diploma holders or GCE O Level holders...

Thanks !!

"they don't want the Qantas style gay stereo type..... as we know 99% of Qantas CC are this way"

Nothing like generalising eh?

hello ppl,

its been a while since i last saw this thread..hehehhe..

to onlyemirates,
u have given some pointers to us ..and i agree abt going all the way to Dubai just to sent out our CV..i was also thinking abt going there, but kept asking myself,'will being interviewed there guarantee me a position?'that really make me sat back and decide home is where i'll do my interviews..its also cheaper..hehehe...thank you very much for that,OE..

to babyblu,
once again , wish u best of luck and keep us posted...

to Hermie,
so far, even 'N'Level students manage to get thru ...i guess EK is looking for ppl who are able to interact with the public..good communication skills..I agree abt the Dip holders n graduates applying but trust me,most of them are snobbish n over confident..(from wat i saw n spoke to during the Open Day in singapore)

anyways, here's a silly question but i'm just curious,i know group sessions are usually the important part of the selection process and noted a point quoted by onlyemirates 'be yourselves'..in my previous selection interview,I met this girl who was actually very relaxed n composed, even hv a sense of humour, but was eliminated ..n she's being herself coz that's the way she is..she mentioned this to me and thought u guys are able to help me get an answer for her as ive explained the same exact words mentioned by OE..was it due to her nodding as a sign of approval each time when a teammember spoke??i(i knew this coz i was in her team)..

well,i would be very appreciated with all ur comments and pointers...

Cheers

(p.s. anyone knew wat happened to Craic1510??...its been awhile since she posted anything...wonder if she hv heard anything ....?)

Wow, I can't understand anything you just wrote! May I suggest less text talk and a better standard of English.

Thanks

craig1510

i think crai1510 got through, check old posts.

if you be yourself and dont get through, your much more likely to not get through if you are not yourself.

Remember with these group discussions, it is a way for EK to eliminate and DISCRIMINATE.

EK have the weirdest hireing style of any world anywhere in the world. they say yes, when they mean no, they take on people after brief meeting when desperate, call people at 2.00 a.m to confirm placement in training, send you notices that you have not got to shortlist, then ask you to be called to interview a week later, ask you be called to an interview and say they will write a confirmation note, coming from Dubai, and nothing sent, say they will send all CV's back to Dubai, when in actual fact rumours have it that often they burn the lot. They discriminate like crazy, then when the authorities look closer at their interviewing style, employ people that are totally what they don't normally take, just to prove authorities wrong. They like high standards yet the recruiters can't answer simple questions. Sometimes u wonder. also stories of Cvs turning up everywhere and a simple number they list on the cv goes astray etc........

Emirates

Hey All..

Onlyemirates I must say that I do actually agree with alot of what you are saying. Sad but true... I guess when you are that powerful what you do to people doesnt matter, as is the case with Emirates.

To all of you out there keep on trying, I guess for those who are focused on Emirates maybe think about expanding the airlines you are applying for (all 3 of them ).....

Last question to onlyemirates, are you currently working for EK. You seem to know some interesting recruiting facts????

Cheers all

Hi Only Emirates and anyone "In the know"....
Does anyone know what happens to your file after it has been sent to management to be approved and you were unsucessful?
Before I went along to the Nov open day in Sydney it had only been 7 mths since my final interview & file being sent to Senior Management when they ask you to wait 12. I called the recruitment office to ask if it would be detrimental to me gaining employment and I was given a very cryptic answer "I can't advise you what to do but go along if you like and try your luck...perhaps we will see you in Dubai"
I did go along and wasn't even called back for a group interview when my resume & look was on Par or even better than those that did. Do you think they check the shortlist on a database to see if you have already applied?? I called the Results Centre and they seemed to think this was the reason...What do you think?
Also does anyone know what they do with your file after the 12 mths is up? Is it completely deleted or what??
If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated... Most of my friends have gotten through and it is doing my head in!!!
Good luck everyone....

Emirates-Cabin Crew

Hello All...

Am keen on joining Emirates as a Cabin Crew. Can someone out there tell me more about this company, i.e the pay, living conditions in Dubai, pro motion wise and also the list of Station where they have a stop over for the crew....maybe including the stop over period as well.

Any info will be much appreciated.

Thanx and happy reading.

Hi there everyone,

Well its been a long time since I have posted anything. So here goes.......

I attended the Birmingham Open Day (about 120 pax total) on the 15th Nov - arrived 09.00 hand in resumes, sat down watch EK video and then had a Q's and Answers time. Shortly after than Danielle and Sarah advised that "due to the large numbers..... we cant interview you all.... those who are successful in this round will be contact by 19:00 today.."

I really didnt think I had made an impact - I asked a direct, yet informed question about the companies future, where they are heading etc. - unlike some people asking about maternity leave, bringing over partners to live with etc!!! I know for a fact these people didnt make it through - lack of company research.

I smiled and conformed to all the right body language.... althought I didnt feel this was returned or recepricated, assuming then I DIDNT MAKE IT THROUGH - so as all Aussie's I headed to the PUB with a fantastic girl I met there (Hazel - if your on msg me) THEN, about 20 mins into our drive to a local.... my phone rang..... It was Sarah from Emirates asking me if I could attend an interview tomorrow.

Sadly, I could not - mostly because I had come up from London that morning (05.00am train) no accommodation, working the next day etc - although she said this was no problem - she said thats fine and told me to keep the Sat29/Sun30th NOV free for an interview at Heathrow - "I will call you back with the specifics" EXCELLLENT!

Time marched on.. still no call back. Come the Tuesday before the interview (on Sat/Sun) - still nothing. I decided to send an email.... I was at that point into my 3rd day of a first aid training course - and constatly "going to the bathroom" to check my phone! Then, I received an phone message saying... "sorry Paul, all places are full for the LHR interviews?!?!... may we please see you in the new year JAN.... we are still very interested.... appologies etc"

I wasnt over the moon, but happy for "the call" nonetheless. Then later that night I received an email with a repeat of the earlier phone mesage. Although, this time she told me the specifics of the interview...... very strange. I opted not to go and wait for my official invitation for the new year - I decided to play this by the books and the old excuse of "didnt receive your message" never washes with me at the best of times.
And alas, here I am.... at work, typing this to you all.....

Firstly - TO ALL OF YOU OUT THERE WHO HELPED ME GET THIS FAR - A big THANK YOU!!! You know who you are

Secondly, if anyone attended the Birmingham Open day - please get in touch.. from what I can gather, hardly anyone got "the call" which is a little sad, because there were sooo many great people there.

Also, is anyone else in the same boat as me? If so please get in touch. Does anyone know anything about LHR (Heathrow) interviews in the new year - expected in JAN???

Lastly, I think this board is an EXCELLENT SOURCE to all people out there - both in the Job and hopefulls like myself!! SO KEEP IT UP PEOPLE..

PS - I couldnt agree more with the "live abroad for Emirates" I have been living in the UK for 1.5 years now - originally from SYD and I REALLY do think this helps. Now I've said that lets just hope it pays off in the interview - like many of you out there - I REALLY WANT THIS JOB. I will be utterly crushed if things go pear shaped.

Take care everyone - and keep on posting

If EK was really interested in u, they would have made you attend NOv not Jan. Often EK does this to postpone and then kind of "rub-off" people, it is harsh but fact, refer to poor people attending other Opening Days in Australia and u will find that EK play with people often to test. From your story, it seems u r probably, quite young, perhaps 21 or below and had what they wanted in presentation, then realised your age, working it out from schooling finishing dates on CV or if you had your D.O.B on CV and decided to not take you on. Other scenario u had great presentation, what they feel looks like the EK image, yet u had a crappy message on your mobile phone and decided to change their thought and reject u. This happens often! Or you did not abide by EK instructions and EK are strict with this until you have had your final whereby miracles happen.
The questions u ask at questions and answer sessions have absolutely nothing to do with why u were called, they do not mark with hundreds of CVs to look through. Often they just call people at random and see their response. Another way they get rid of people and short-list, if they called u and u did not sound professional or that interested.

good luck though

Onlyemirates

Onlyemirates,

You seem to have an answer for every situation that arises in regards to Emirates. Once again I'd like to know if you work for Emirates. I guess if you do it would make sense, but if not where do you get your information from? I just think people would appreciate your comments if they were aware of your background..

Hello all,

I have been reading this thread and have read some interesting posts.

Onlyemirates - I am curious to know your source for the large amount of information you provide, have you worked for EK, or do you work for EK, or have you been to multiple interviews and are simply expressing your personal opinion about the company?
I' m in no way attempting to cause any heated discussion, as I think your comments are valuable however just want to validate them a little more for my own clarity.

All information from everyone has been much appreciated, and I look forward to reading more.

Thanks everyone,
Raver

Dear onlyemirates,

I thank you for your comments and appreciate your constructive feedback.

I'm turning 23 this month (Dec) and I do have a solid background in customer service and one of the highest levels of training within the hospitality sector.
So the only reason I can assume that this is happening is because I was declined 'online' earlier this year. However, I attended an open day (within the 6month period) as I KNEW if they saw me in person I COULD SELL MYSELF - which looks to have worked. From the discussions I have had with other pruners it seems that they have cross referenced their database and have stalled my application. In my opinion - never apply online it does not give a true account of who you are!! Wait for the open day. Be patient, I wasn't and lost out by the sounds of it.

Honestly, I find the whole process of airline recruitment, especially Emirates quite frustrating and at time over the top.
My flatmate said one night that "if you don’t fit the mould then you just won’t get it.. end of section" I know people who have walked into these "interviews" with degrees as long as your arm, massive amounts of experience within some of the finest hotels, restaurants, bar etc across the world. Then at the end of the day - their hair colour isn’t right or they were having a bad skin day - boom "thanks but no thanks"

Honestly, I think we are all aware of what it takes to become a member of airline cabin crew - determination, drive and a passion for the industry. Not to forget that one person giving you the call or chance to excel.

I really think Emirates are the ones losing out here - they keep rejecting all these people who actually want the job. Then they take on board all those people who "play the game" etc during the interview and then end up leaving without completing their 3 year contract - due to "personal reasons" or because they simply get home sick or maybe even realise this is something they don’t want to do. We all are aware that they are short of staff at the moment and I know 4 people who have left in the past 3 months!

There are countless people on this board who simply want the job. So 'only emirates' if you do work for Emirates or within the Emirates recruitment process please take note of my comments and the other countless comments by other pruners WHO WANT TO WORK FOR YOU! Much like raverflyer I don’t want this to turn into a heated discussion. However, at the end of the day - who is right for your airline? Obviously not gay, fat, too dominant, too passive, short, too tall, people over 30, too blonde, not blonde enough??????? Think outside the box, please.

My message to all pruners out there - IF Emirates are not willing to give you a shot at your dream as Cabin crew and this is something YOU WANT TO DO - Look elsewhere. I have made a post "Oz passport = which airlines????" and will update a listing there shortly for all of you out there who, like me are in a similar situation. Don’t despair there are other companies out there who will want you for who you are, not for what they want you to be or how they expect you to act.

Take care everyone and please keep posting!

PaulE,

I think your comments are a little unfair. You are making a lot of assumptions about the airline, based on no fact other than a fellow ppruner's comments here.

Emirates is a global airline. They have tens of thousands of people apply to them every year. They send recruiting teams all over the world to meet and interview potential candidates. Of course they are going to have a database of their applicants, they'd be STUPID if they didn't, people would slip through that have been previously rejected for whatever reason (small or otherwise).

If Emirates have a "look" or a "mould" they want their FAs to fit into then that is their perogative. In fact, so does every other airline in the world! Why should they think "outside the box" when they have so many quality applicants to select from. They select who in their opinion will be the best for the job. This opinion may of course differ from your own.

Yes, airline interviews are a game, just like everything else... if you want it then you have to play the game well. It's not fair to throw everyone into the same basket and assume these people will leave before the end of their 3 year contract is up - a friend of mine has been with Emirates close to 8 years now, and is perfectly happy to stay. Like every other job interview, do your research, know your product, behave and dress appropriately. It's not a difficult concept.

PaulE if you don't end up being successful for Emirates do not lose heart. Think positively and remember it is "their loss" - work on improving yourself, making yourself even better and continue applying elsewhere. If you are successful then maybe you'll realise that you really do know how to play the game after all.

Best of Luck
SG

Thanks Sydgirl,

Re-reading, I really should of censored it - However, I was just a little annoyed at some comments by other pruners. I know its a hard game to play and possibly at times an unfair game. But when you know you have a very good product and the sake of a "few months" to wait - it IS very frustrating.

Good to see another Sydneysider on here Again thanks for all your positive feedback - as usual

PS - As you know its very hard for Aussie cabin crew to find a reputable airline - esp long haul. I know when I come back from England and Europe the options are very limited.

Although I will keep applying!
