married?

in australia you are not allowed to discriminate against an employee by not hiring them because they are married.

not sure if emirates are complying with this or not.

but you are in the uk are you?

Hmm, I think what the other posters are suggesting is that in AUS / UK / CAN / US etc where anti-discrimination laws prevent setting of age limits and martial status, EK don't publish their recruitment policy.

Whilst the applications are taken in AUS / UK etc the actual decision making process is finalised in the UAE and are not subject to local anti-discrimination laws.

Best bet is to have a shot, you have nothing to lose!

Good luck.

When i went to the open day in Manchester 2 weeks ago They said the age limit to start whatever your nationality is 21. it is a law that applies in the Emirates.

Open day

Hi Socialflyer
Thanks for posting your message.
I went to an open day on the 3rd of Nov at London Heathrow, had the whole open day experience etc and handed in my cv. I would say about 200-300 people came.

I got my letter inviting me to the prelim interview on the 7th of Nov which I thought was pretty quick.

Not sure what to make of it (probably shouldn't make anything of it) but my reference no. is below 40 so i think there still might be a lot of people at the prelim.

Just like everyone said about 1st impressions are important. What you're wearing and your photographs. I looked at what the girl on their website was wearing and got inspiration from there.

My problem is that I'm currently on the otherside of the world and have to try and figure a way to get back in time. I think trying to change the date will go against me, but if I make it my fingers will be hot on the keyboard to let you all know how it all went.

Hang in there

Hi Hi,

First and formost, congratulations to babyblu for being selected for the prelim.Wish u all the best and good luck..

SocialFlyer,
any outcome from your end???

I am made aware that pics play a key role for EK to select ppl from Open days..luckily I brought along a full length pic coz it was not indicated in the papers..I was already not feeling that confident after the whole open day process but after reading babyblu's post, it boost my confidence ..though at least I know that they will take into consideration from the look of our pics..

Well, looks like its the waiting game again...once again, all the best to those who apply and good luck !

Cheers

Hey Babyblue and Crazysapphire

I'm not expecting to hear anything yet for a few weeks at least. My Open Day was on Monday in Melbourne and I'm sure it will not be till December till they get back to us.

Babyblue a word of advice is that if you are going to have a problem making it to the Preliminary Interview send them an email and let them know. Back in March I was invited to the Preliminary and I contacted Emirates and informed them I was not in the country, hence I could not attend. What they did was put me on hold and then in May when they returned to Australia I was invited. They were fantastic and understanding that people are not always available at short notice. They actually offered me 3 different Preliminary dates to attend and let me choose. I did attend in May and didnt make it through unfortuantly, but not to worry I'm sure I will next time

When I submitted my application I took professional photos full body and head and shoulders shots. I also binded my resume and used fancy paper. I guess it's up to the individual but I'd say go all out with your application.

I'll keep you all updated when I hear back (if I do that is)... In the meantime Babyblue goodluck and I hope you work it out. Whatever you do make sure you let them know....

PS..Crazysapphire where you at the Melbourne Open Day??? If so how far down the line. I was the 3rd person (male)..

Cheers Guys

Hi!

I applied 3 years ago from Austria. A friend of mine kept the newspaper-article which read:
" You should be single, between 22 and 30 years, be between 5'2 and 5'10 (female) / 5'6 and 6'2 (male) in height and have good eyesight without glasses (however, contact lenses are acceptable). You will aslo need to be educated to secondary level. Fluency in written / spoken English is essential "

Mark it - that was 3 years ago - but as far as I know they haven't really changed the limits - only, as some before mentioned - in some countries they are not allowed to "voice" them...

So - you might be 34, in the UK they might still invite you to the interview (because they might have to - no age-discrimination)... but: they'd probably also find a reason or 2 why not to take you but the 27 year old, single next to you instead...

However - it's always worth to give it a shot - you never know, they can be flexible sometimes...

Good luck anyway! If you go to the interview - just have fun, be yourself - and who knows... we might meet in Dubai!

Cheers,
Eli

Age Limit...

Hi Guys,

I had to add my two cents worth since everyone else is..

Emirates do have an age limit and I think it is something like 21 to 30.. They do not recruit anyone beyond or under. Some flight attendants are over 30 and still working for EK, however they were employed under 30.

The reason thay will not announce this in an Open Day situation or Advertising is because approximately 2 years ago Emirates was warned by Australian Government that if they want to continue recruitng here they need to comply with Australian Anti Discrimation Laws. If they do not the would need to interview applicants in Dubai. The same applied with Gulf Airlines. They do not recruit males, yet in advertisements they never state this.

Emirates also are not allowed to request photos through advertisements that appear in the Australian Papers as this is also part of Anti Discrimination Laws. In their advertisements it always says "refer to website for more info". A keen applicant would do this and realise that photos are essential with any application.

I'm not definate about the married status thing, however I dont think they favour it. They will only provide a visa to the person employed by Emirates and not there partners or children.

Most this information was supplied by my friend who works for them now and she knows her stuff.

I hope this clarifies a few things.

Cheers

pre-lim

Hi SocialFlyer

Thanks for the info. Have to make a decision today. One massive risk, but worth taking if I get the job. It seems a bit daunting to have to fly across the world for a group interview.

What did you think of the pre-lim, a friend of mine said the personality test is a bit odd. I've tried to prepare as best I can - but it doesn't feel enough.

Thanks again.

re emirates discrimination

yes

emirates discriminates.

nobody above 31!!!!!!

their are cabin crew that r 40 but they started when they were in their 20's

no under 21 definitely

u might get through ist round and tests but no way will they take u on so look elsewhere

also

no gay looking men or acting gay.

hardly any blonde men,u must look like one of the Emirates team.

blonde girls however go for it, if you are over 21 and have charisma, and semi intelligence go for it, might as well sign the dotted line......if u r young and did not have good grades at school, forget it.... they want people on the ball.... they dont care about looks actually most of the Cabin Crew for EK are average, very average but are quick to think.

e.h if you are one of the hundreds that get on these web-sites preparing for the interviews ......forget it....... EK recruiters can tell... they want someone that is naturally a quick thinker and not someone prepared... that is why Ek take on about 90% of people that have no clue, but are on the ball.

if u runder 21 still go as they will note u for when u come back when u r 22, and hire u then.

Hi,

To onlyemirates,
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if you are one of the hundreds that get on these web-sites preparing for the interviews ......forget it.......
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

can't help it but feel a lil letdown...I've always look forward to this forum as to it helps each individual to make their dreams happen..though i agree abt 'being on the ball'..
Ive been to 3 EK interviews ,and each process are definitely done differently...this forum, however, for me ,is good in a way i learned that its not abt preparing for the interviews but the experience and enthusiasm of the ppl who makes this thread alive..Sorry for being sensitive..

To SocialFlyer,

I wasn't at the Melbourne Open day but was at Singapore Open day on 15th..I heard usually Australia based will be notify earlier than our side ..well, anyways, good luck n keep us posted..

I believe all of us give our best to achieve our dreams ...we just have to keep on trying and never give up...

Cheers

Do you currently work for Emirates?? I'm not sure where you sourced your information, however I can't help but think it may be misleading in many ways.

Firstly many individuals who have used this forum in the past have secured positions with Emirates. In May this year one of the Emirates Cabin Crew Ground Schools had 10 Pruners on it. The all knew each other from this forum and were discussing that there was no way they could have done it without it.

Secondly many of the Australian Emirates Crew have researched the position before going for it. The Results Centre has heald many courses and alot of there past students have secured positions.

I suppose the rest of the information you supplied was accurate about age etc... I have heard similar about the acting gay or looking gay for males as well. So I'm not going to dispute you on that. I just wanted to emphasise that being prepared does not go against you.

Cheers

craz saph and social flyer

Sorry to mislead!

I typed out a lengthy remark, then it was lost, the 2nd typo was not quite as accurate.....sorry about that

Crazy saph

.....yes continue to use the forums their are many....what I was getting at was be yourself and don't really listen to what is going on deeply. If u r not yourself and listen to what is going on and what to say for EK interviews, the interviewers will pick up on that and u will not get in.

re: socialflyer....

the people that got in that viewed this forum and other forums, were of course selected as you state, but not because prune, they would have got in anyways. The majority of ppl that get selected for EK CC are those that are totally natural, prepared about the company, but importantly have potential to fill the 3 year contract, that is why Ek hires young, hopefull y that they stay on for 2 contracts....totalling 6 years.

As for those many questions about applying for the job in another city of the world....otehr than your home base...... the results are phenominal.....E.g Brisbane girl living in London going to London Opening Day ( having already lived in England say a year ) with exactly the same crudentials as the same girl applying at Opening Day Brisbane, will be to her advantage. Why????? Easy EK wants someone that can show living away from home, no home sickness, no missing friends, family etc......

Finally, I have just got news in that EK will start hiring up to 34... like Gulf....chances will be slim especially if you are a male....... 1-300 get through to CC of those 1-15 are male, if you have an accent, speak English very well but have that "cute factor', then you have a greater chance of getting in. Under 21, will remain the same, but still apply, your name will be noted

good luck

Hi Onlyemirates

Thank you for your comments. I suppose it is a reality check for us all wannabe's. How long have you worked for Emirates and do you have any more positive tips?

Thank you Babyblu

Babylu.... their is a lot of information on EK Opening Days, but if it was me, I would not fly across the world to just hand in your CV, you can scan attatach your details and send to Dubai.
At Opening days their could be up to 2,000 people attending, depending on the city, so it would be a waste of your hard earned money. Absolutley nothing will be noted on your CV that you travelled from Canada to wherever just for the O Day.
All I can suggest is that EK look for specific people, and they discriminate heavily to get to that specific type. If you don't fit what they want, you can travel a million miles, apply one hundred times, and beg and cry, it wont make a difference.
Sorry but it is true!

Good luck everyone!

just another tip!!!!

If you know you don't fir the criteria for EK but want to work in the industry. Still go to the Opening days... and attend the interviews etc.... why??????

E.g If you are 35......... EK won't even look at you, but good practice to relieve the nerves for other interviews with other airlines. If you go through the EK method, it will definitely loosen you up for your other interviews. Although often the recruiters almost fall asleep when interviewing and actinga s if you are a potential, when really they well know that when you get to the final interview will be declined.... no explanation..... it is just EK's way of showing the world.. they don't discriminate........ "look we interviewed til 2nd interview" good excuse, but they will ALWAYS give an excuse and give it to the applicant that is younger.

I stress, I know their is a lot of wannabies out there.......but you have to be honest to yourself and be realistic. You have to understand that you are applying for a Muslim airline and have to understand what a muslim man wants..... they do not want gay looking/speaking men... it irritates them they are homophoebic and they get what they want. Now 85% of men that apply for CC position are either gay, secretly gay ( closet ) or don't know it. the ones thet get through with EK, are the ones that are friendly, well spoken and don't know it...... if youa re a touch on the feminine side..... forget it!

hope this helps

GC21

GC21,

Hi, Reviewing your info it seems that EK may have been genuinely interested, although they normally do not take blonde males, however they love blonde females.
The photo would have not been a problem as you approached them with the "regular" hair color that they like.
Recruiter may have put something like " candidate fine, not dtriking blonde as per initial photo" however upon sending this to Senior Management, they would have noted a change in color in hair perhaps, and only "gay" type of people do this sort of thing.
You being gay is no problem, as long as you don't show it at the interviews. Now you got through to the end, which is great, perhaps u r not as feminine as u might think... they don't want the Qantas style gay stereo type..... as we know 99% of Qantas CC are this way inclined, they give terrific service. The Arab airlines want great service but from men that look like their own and blonde females. I know it is not fair. Sorry u did not get through. Don't change your personality just to get into EK, try QF perhaps.

Hope this helps

Good luck!

Why did EK leave it so long, easy by that time you would have forgotten it and no apparent anti dscrimination.....EK loves to play with the candidates.

read up on the people that were teased along til final notification, were about to be flown to Dubai and candidate called from recruitment management at 2.00 a.m Sydney time. "Oh sorry "Linda" we have just realised that you are 20, you need to be 21 to apply for EK" sorry and hung up.... this scenario is common, and they have soo much money and influence, you have buckleys doing anything about it
