Hi Dolly

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I don't know of anything else you can do personally. I presume BA can be picky enough to insist on these things, even though people are perfectly educated enough to get through the interview and fill in the forms.

Good luck. Hope something works out for you.

Hello All,

I've just recieved a letter from BA to tell me I've been successful through the selection process (I was interviewed 5th October) but that they're going to hold my application until they can give me some course dates. I work for Britannia at the minute but been here for 3 years and still no permanent contract this year:-(

I would appreciate it if anybody could answer a few questions:

-does anybody know of an course dates that they've maybe already been given?
-anbody got this letter too?
-any ideas on how long it can be before you might be given course dates?
-when do you find out which base/fleet your gonna be on (although they did say at my interview it was for LHR EF)?

also I'd greatly appreciate ANY advice/numbers etc on Accomodation near LHR during training (I'm coming down from NCL)...

Thanks in advance!
Paul

^^^ sorry for apparently awful spelling on the post above!! ^^^ this was due entirely to a dodgy/worn out keyboard - not a lack of brain cells, lol.

As redred just said - no new courses until next year. A friend who was interviewed in the early part of July has been given a course date for January 10th - 6 months from interview to start date. So I would guess that all courses up until at least that date are filled already. Training for new entrants is due to end in March 2005. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info folks, I called up yesterday and was told I'd be going to LHR EF....sometime in January or February, but as long as I DO get there eventually that's fine!!

If anybody has also recently been told they've been successful...let me know when your given a course date, although I've been assured this won' be for about 4 weeks yet.

Thanks, P.

6 dec long or short haul ANSWERS

WHEN YOU DO THE interview you get a briefing on the fleet youll work on.To do long haul must work for the company before for a few years and get into a 5 year waiting list. Its very rare that you can jump into long haul without previous experience.
So the briefing you got is what you get.
Now question time
In Eurofleet when is the first flight? can i live in west london 30 mins by tube withouth living in the airport?
whats the best?
If you'd recieved at the same time an offer froma along haul which only operates 2 routes to japan (talking about ANA) what would you choose??
please i need you opinions
big hugs to everybody.
looking for a flat in dec.Im starting courses on the 6th of dec

HeloAngel...

To answer you, the report time for the first flight is 0500. Early I know, but when you are online you can bid for lates, to avoid getting earlies too often. This si what my friends do who do not drive. You will have to do earlies sometimes, but it is just wise if you find out how to get to the Airport to report in time. Please also bear in mind that it is quite difficult to get a black cab to drop you off anywhere around the airport. The agreement is that they should, but they like to refuse to do this because they want the bigger money for taking people into central london.

You asked for advice on ANA v BA. Not being biased, I would choose BA. You will feel a hell of a lot more comfortable working for BA. It is a very relaxed atmosphere, and there is not so much focus on you as a crew member from the seniors. The language barrier is not a problem. Also culturally, you are not required to act or conform in certain ways. You are also treated as an adult. What I am trying to say is that at BA you will be able to be yourself. Having had some JAL experience, I do not think you would be able to do that at ANA. If longhaul is important to you, ANA does offer a great opportunity, but some of the flights/trips and A/C you work on at EF LHR does make you feel like you are already doing longhaul.

Think about it........2 routes on LH with ANA, compared to more than 35 routes on EF LHR...with many trips included...and english speaking and for the most part fun crews....??

One more thing....

For those of you who failed to gain the pass at C or above in your English and Maths GCSE exams, try learn direct. They have a FREE, yes I Said FREE course which you can do which will give you a certificate in English and Maths (and science if you really want that), equivalent to GCSE level C. I know a few people who\'ve joined recently who did this. They originally did not have a C or above GCSE pass in English or Maths as is the basic BA requirement. All UK companies have to accept these certificates as GCSE C grade equivalents.

I do not know the number for learndirect, but I think it is easy to find. They have adverts everywhere.

Best of luck!!

heloangel:

Yes, the basic salary is low but your allowances make-up the vast majority of your pay. Your annual take-home pay, after tax, will easily be in excess of double your basic salary. Don't worry, BA pay well.

You've only got the first three months to worry about. Say you join 1st January, you'll be flying five weeks later (2nd week Feb) and your first basic + allowances payslip will be 31st March. On a basic of £9500 pa at basic rate tax that'll be a shade under £700 take home per month. You can expect at least double that once you're flying.

hi heloangel...

just wanted to let you know however that you are not guaranteed 500 pounds in allowances....

however allowances as stated before by the other guys does make the bulk up of your salary so obviously if you are off sick or on leave you dont get as good a salary....

Good luck in your career at BA...

hi!

Does any1 have any idea when the training would start if offered a position from an interview on 2nd Nov?
The reason I ask is i have an interview then and leave work the week after as i'm due to start with another comp so if they offered me anything it would need to start pretty much straight away and I REALLY wanna go with them!
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Lis x

Thanks Redfred but actually people have already been given dates for Dec.

A lot is said........ through the grapevine but since BA r recruiting so heavily at the moment I personally can't see the sense in not doing anymore training courses. .

Just wondered what the average time u r invited on a course from successfully completing interview are
