Hostess mostess.

Yes it is realistic. I have seen payslips for over £1900.

Depends on what trips you try to get. If you want leisurely trips with minimum work then no you're not going to get it. If you want to work for your money and cover 8 sectors in three days, plus do overtime, then you're quids in.

Crew on full time LHR Eurofleet contract are required to be rostered 10 days off. Overtime can be applied for when you have three days or more off in a row, (leave not included) and you can only work a day off at the end or beginning of another block, maximum of 7 days in total. You cannot exceed you maximum block working hours.

Be warned though, working the day before the beginning of a block can knock your roster out, so if you have a good 3 day trip early reporting at the start of your block, you may want to avoid overtime. If you have something you're not keen on though, it can work in your favour.

You can only bid for overtime once youve cleared from your last duty before your days off.

Edited to add: Hostess mostess, you may have misunderstood the rule regarding days off. Eurofleet LHR have a minimum of 10 days off TOTAL, not consecutive!!!! Crew would only be working 10 days a month if that was the case.

Turnover of new entrant cabin crew at British Airways has never been higher than it is today.

This has a lot to do with the unrealistic expectations, salary- and otherwise, of new entrants.

Some of the posts in this thread only help to reinforce the mistaken belief of those interested in joining that they will be earning the sums being bandied about here, both from day one and on a monthly basis.

Wouldn't it be more realistic to ask what a first year cabin crew member might make on an annual basis ?

This would prevent disappointment and might paint a more realistic picture of renumeration.

Sounds like a typical flight deck response/statement to me. Hey, I may be wrong - but I very much doubt it. I think that one should stick to one's own forum.

BA Boi - This is a forum for anybody: Particularly welcome are those who take the time to post thoughtfully, and make a postive contribution to a thread.

Now that you know this, re-read the previous two posts on this thread and ask yourself which one best satisfies those criteria?

BA Boi,

You don't know how dumb that makes you look.

How about addressing the point ?

TightSlot, thank you for your thoughtful remarks.

Ive workrd for BA now for about 7 months and have never earned as much anywhere else. Not including the training wage, my lowest salary (with 9 days leave) was £1400. 1 days worth of overtime was included in that too. My highest has been not far off from £2k and that is NOT unusual. My average works out to be between £1600-£1700 without overtime, so it really does depend on who you talk to. I get more money than some friends of mine and they have managerial positions!!

I feel very lucky being with BA comparing it to the other airlines I've worked for. I get double the money, more days off and do less work. No wonder people never leave. I'd say if you want to go for an airline, definitely go for BA. It's fab!!!!

p.s. I should have really added that in the first couple of months, you will in fact earn a pittance, as allowances are paid in arrears (same at my previous airline)
There was my disclaimer.

This has a lot to do with the unrealistic expectations, salary- and otherwise, of new entrants
I graduated from university not immediately knowing I would soon be flying as cabin crew, yet before joining my first airline, I had a pretty accurate idea of expected monthly take-home; it doesn't take much research, and if prospective employees can't be bothered to do a little research, I'd suggest they're doing it for the perceived glamour, not the money.

Wouldn't it be more realistic to ask what a first year cabin crew member might make on an annual basis ?
There is no absolute figure, but it's about £21000 gross for full-time maincrew at LHR. The reason we quote monthly figures is because only our basic is set in stone; monthly flying allowances vary according to critieria already mentioned.

Turnover of new entrant cabin crew at British Airways has never been higher than it is today.
I'm not disputing this as I know no better, but where did you get such information from?

I'm new to this forum so I apologise now if this is written in the wrong section! I have my BA assessment day/interview for C/C on Monday 14 March and wondered if anyone was willing to share their experiences with me? Bit nervous and want to be well prepared - ie: what is expected of me and what typical questions they are likely to ask, etc.

Any good answers would be most appreciated too!! Tee hee hee. Especially for the one "Why do you want to work for BA?" Apart from the obvious, please tell me what to say as I really want this job!!

Thanks guys
Flooz x

Questions are highly concentrated on your personal experiences, personal and work situations youve been in and how you dealt with them. NB They will expect a different example to your application form.

Group interview will be some kind of scenario or activity to look at how you interact, your teamplaying and if are assertive/ aggresive/ passive/ manipulative.

Run a search on this thread, theres been plenty of experiences shared on here recently.

Good luck!!

I'm at Lgw eurofleet, the people are the best, mind you I do come from a smaller charter company who were not very professional.

The interview wasn't hard at all, I just answered the questions honestly and got through fine.

I found it much more professional than the previous two airline interviews I attended.

BA start date

Hi Guys

I received a letter ten days ago saying i had been successful but they had no course dates to offer at the moment so my application would be put on hold until they had course dates to offer me..

Just wondering how long i might have to wait? I applied for EF LHR.....

Also.... I see on their jobs website they're no longer recruiting for Cabin Crew... wonder why?

Any info / help appreciated. Thanx

Hey Monarch

I believe the waiting time for a LHR EF course is about 3 months at the moment. If you call the recruitment customer service line and ask they are usually able to give you an idea. Or anyway they will be able to tell you what month they are up to now (ie 'we are filling courses now for people who were interviewed in January').

Sometimes they are a bit cheeky and will call you and say 'Hi Monarchboy, just to let you know the current waiting list for LHR is around 3 months, but we can offer you a LGW EF position immediately if you are interested'. If they do this THINK VERY CAREFULLY before accepting LGW. I'm guessing from your username that you work for Monarch at the mo so will probably know the difference with the eurogatwick pay/contract/terms & conditions etc versus LHR. Once you are at LGW it can take years to transfer to LHR.

Sharman....

22 isn't too young at all for BA. BA are mega PC and would never discriminate on age. On your application form concentrate on your examples as this is what determines if you'll get thru to the interview stage. In the examples make sure you answer all parts of the scenario.

Flyingdutchman

I don't know where you get your figures from in regards to turnover but I would definately question them! The money for the first 3 months you join BA is pants (you won't get your first full months allowences to end of month 3). But the only people I have known to have left BA have left to go to a job outside the industry. Not to another airline. Of course a certain amount of people that have never flown before join an airline and work out that flying just ain't for them or their lifestyle. I can honestly say that no one from my initial training course (2001) has left, same for my flatmate (2003). In terms of take home pay, it is something you are really pretty much in control of yourself. If all you bid for is 'early start there-and-backs' then yes, you are right the take home pay may not be dazzling. But you would be more than aware of that when doing your bid. However, I don't know anyone that wants that sort of roster. When I was on short-haul I generally did 3 x 3 day trips and take home monthly pay was approx £1600. If I bid for maximum 2-3 day trips I was looking at £1800. If I bid for max trips and did overtime on top of that I was looking at £1900-£2100. If you work out that a moscow or athens there-and-back is worth around £85 a pop, and shorter there-and-backs (checking in for lunch or dinner payment) worth £28-£70 a pop you can do the sums yourself. Add into that CAT turnaround payments and the allowences for doing 2 - 3 day trips, long-day payments, daily overseas allowences, base early report payments etc etc and you get the idea.

2005 BA crew interview experience...

Hi All,

I'm currently a CSA in Terminal 4 for BA and I've just applied for crew. (EF LHR). I haven't heard anything back from Cranebank yet, but I have a few questions regarding the interview process.

I'm familiar with the CSA process, and I understand that for crew, you do just the group discussion and the 2-1 interview, and thats it.

I know you're supposed to fit in the jump seat, and I know that I do, even though I'm a big lad, as I sat in and strapped in to a A319 jumpseat the other night and had no probs at all. Do they still weigh male crew applicants?

Anyone know anything else regarding the current process for internal applicants?

Anything you can share with me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

the interview

Hello - I attended the interview 2 weeks ago and am now awaiting a course date.

You are there 3 hours and you have a 2-1 and the group exercise. They give a presentation on the day. A really good day I thought..

Yes you all get weighed and measured and you have 2 strap yourself into Concorde's jump seat!!!

Best of luck if you get an interview!

Thomas
