Good luck Sonja!

Ahoj Soni,

congratulations!

I passed the Prague's assessment in July 2007, joined in October and like you, I also didn't want to listen to any rumours about Gulf Air and wanted to have my own experience. That time, they hired 3 as well and 2 of us are already back home.
I resigned this year in September and am happy to breath again.

There're some very nice people you're gonna meet but there's many of those who're going to make you feel miserable (I'm talking about other crew). Their aircraft is old with lots of technical issues so you're gonna experience some situations when not feeling safe at all.
And the funny smell is everywhere. Be prepared that most of Gulf Air passengers are illiterate labours from Asia who not only take shower but they also still haven't learned how to use toilet, flush etc....That was the biggest shock for me. The aircraft smells like urin when you board it very often. Be prepared for something disgusting experience.
I had traveled a lot even before I joined Gulf Air so I thought I would not experience a major cultural shock but I was wrong.

However, you have to make your own picture right now. There are about 10-15 czechoslovakians working there and all of them are great.
I'm sure you'll find eachothers because Gulf Air is just a huge gossip playground.

Your life will definitely become easy and comfortable. You're gonna love it if you are kind of a lazy person who only likes to party and don't want to be responsible. If you have some hobbies and love nature you're gonna cry. Bahrain is just a boring sandpit where people don't do much but eating, shopping and partying.

Good luck again!

Exclamation Want to become Cabin Crew

Hello everyone,

I have spent the past 3 weeks applying for just about every airline company that has vacany. Through process of elimination it came down to the following (Ranked by preference):

Etihad Airlines
Emirates
Qatar Airways
Gulf Air
Royal Jordanian

Anywayz I wanted to know if there is anyone who can help me land a positions with one of these companies. My father referred me to a captian and the HR manager for Qatar Air but they told me to wait until after new year for recruitment session in the U.S.!!!! AGGHHHH!!!! This is sooooooo frustrating as I have been called to come to session but their all abroad and I just got back in the country from Egypt. If there's ANYONE who can help please send me a PM or reply.

working condition in Gulf Air?

Hi everyone,

I have few questions for Gulf Air.
How is Gulf Air actually?

They say FA can get air tickets for annual leave days but its just for annual leave to home? No free ID ticket anytime?

How is living in Bahrain?

Is the Salary almost same as Qatar Airways?

How many hours flying every month?

Two months training is a bit longer than other airlines. Why?? Is it so strict training?

I am working as cabin crew now and my current airline is so easy, comfortable enough but still looking for something new.

I hope someone who is working in Gulf Air would help and tell me.

Thank you very much !

Is it true that there is a weigh in at the interview? That seems a bit harsh... Oh and has anyone heard about a interview session coming up in the states?

Hello!

Yeah they weigh you at the interview. The day is broken up into 4 sections and the 3rd part is the groming, they check your height, weight, arms and legs for tattoos and scares and are constantly watching you through out the day!

I went to the London heathrow interview and I got the job, its very exciting! I have a small tattoo on my arm which needs to be removed and once its gone I'll be going to Bahrain! The contract is really good and Bahrain seems like an interesting place!

Are you going for an interview in the US?

Hi Janneha....well, I applied for that job in June and got it in September, so be patient...and look at their interviews on the website :

Flight Attendants - Gulf Air

they would contact you if you live nearby these cities...otherwise, you will have to wait till they come to your town....anyway...if you are from the UK and you applied before X-mas, I am quite surprised that they didnīt invite you to for the interview in London...in January, I guess.

I can only advise you on being yourself, confident but modest as well...and in your case there is no language barrier...so, you might get it on that day as the others....so, check your weight (BMI-not more than 24!!!), your hands, arms and legs (down from your knees) -no visible scars or tattoos...they are so so sensitive about that...try to walk nicely - we had to perform a small "catwalk", wear make-up- also very important...nothing heavy - itīs not a party :-) but if you do get spots - cover it - otherwise they will ask you about your skin, īcoz you have to be prepared that in Bahrain is very hot. And put on something nice - nothing with cleavage, nothing really sexy....something smart like white blouse and black skirt or black trousers (I had trousers)...and high heels!!!!! If you donīt feel like all this.....you can do it yourself...this is just and advise!!!! BUT.....put on a SMILE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thumbs up thanks sonja

hello sonja!

Thanks so much for that advice. Although i suppose it won't be of that much use if i dont get invited to the assessment days! My application status still says 'new'. They dont seem to have a lot of applications from the UK and apparently only a few people turn up at their interviews.

That's strange in my opinion since they have benefits more or less as good as the big boss ek. Ah well i'll see what happens with my application. I just want them to reply whether its in or out!!

Cheers for now

I applied about a week ago and haven't heard back yet. I don't see a US interview session coming up, but there are not too many listed anyway. I am a bit worried about the weigh in, do they have a limit? Or is it just to track it for medical reasons? It is so funny how they can do that in an interview. In the states we aren't allowed to show photos on resumes or talk about weight, so its something new to get used too!

to janneha....well, maybe you have just missed the interview in Jan...donīt know really. But anyway you can turn up in any interview, I guess, as noone checked our ID or wanted to see our invitation or something else...we got the "name" on our suits (blouse) and that was that....they didnīt know who we are or at least I think so, īcoz there was a girl who used to work for Etihad and they didnīt know or me...I was in England for two years and they were like...what did you do...it wasnīt just a question, the girl from Gulf really didnīt know anything...they didnīt have our application forms!!!!!!!!!!!! so, if you have money and time to fly to another place, donīt miss out...go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

to missfly.....unfortunately, they donīt recruit in the States at the mmt...you will have to travel or wait!!! but donīt be so scared about the weighing....if you can walk in the plane corridor...you will be fine!!!!!!!what they do...they check your weigh and height to figure out your BMI...you can do it yourself at home...anything less than 24 is okay...but beware.....being under 18 would be a problem...as you wouldnīt be considered healthy!!!!!

It is for sure that Etihad is the LESS strict about the appearance than EK or GF...at least what I heard from my friends. Anyway...wish you luck....still....why not joining the US airways????? you love the Middle East????

Hi sonja,

thanks for that reply. I've just realized that i sent off the application in january and the assessment at london was late january. That might have been a reason. Still, its been a month and no reply. Do you think i need to call them just to double check or? I dont see any other assessments for the UK on their website anyway.

I should be concentrating on my etihad assessment next week really but its just because with gulf, its so much more straight forward compared to the others!!

Have you got their HR number ?? You can PM it to me if you wish. Also can i just say that thanks for all the help.

Cheers!!!

Gulf Air CC Family & Friend Discounts...

Does anyone know the discounts that family and friends of GA Cabin Crew receive? Also if my boyfriend came to visit, are you allowed to stay in the same hotel room if you are not married? (silly question I know!) or is it against the law in Bahrain? Thanks

Hi melanie - your parents are entitiled to unlimited reduced rate tickets at 10% of ticket price for a standby ticket or 50% of ticket price for a guarenteed seat, also 6 other people (friends or family) get one reduced rate ticket per year, but you could use those 6 tickets on one person if you know what I mean.

Hope that helps you

p.s. of course you can stay in hotels with your boyfriend lol

janneha - it took gulf over 3 months to get in touch with me after I applied! your best bet is to just keep checking when they are having there assessment days and turn up, think they just had one in manchester. I had 2days notice to travel to mine and was at the other end of the country lol

Good luck and keep searching!
I'll let you know if I hear of any coming up

Hi Dazed it took six months for me to get a reply from GF and that was an invitation to interview. Unless it has changed you will know when they are reviewingyour application because the status changes on the on line application. When you cannot get back onto it to make any changes they are looking at it. Watch the website, at the moment it's the normal vague stuff but when they announce actual venues for the interviews and your area appears you canexpect to be contacted it's a real waiting game with them.....why not try Qatar Airways they are actively recruiting at the moment? Good luck!

No, he won't be moving to Bahrain. Thanks for the tips, just one more question...there are some really bad things that have been said about Gulf on here, are any of them true? Have you had any bad experiences? x

Hello Anexa,

The position is based in the Kingdom of Bahrain which offers a friendly and cosmopolitan environment with fantastic recreational opportunities including numerous sports, water sports, sun bathing, luxurious shopping malls, international restaurants, and many other places for socialising.
GULF1497 - Flight Attendant ? Eastern European Residents - Gulf Air

However it's obvious that as long as they don't have a base in your country, you will have to relocate.

some people love it and some hate it - dont judge until you get here then you can decide for yourself, i choose not to listen to other people as it brings you down! I'm sure you will have a great time but just stick out the training course as many girls leave and regret it, just think of the rewards at the end

You have to be at least 158cm tall (I think), they measure your height at the interview!
