Exchange rate
Guys, did you notice, the exchange rate for Bahreini Dinars to Euro has changed - if before 1 was 0.58 BD, than now it is already 0.48, which means the salary is increasing for like 200-300 euros!! What do u think of that, what is the economical situation in Bahrein, do u think the exchange rate will remain that low?
ah, and, is it true there's gonna be some delay with visa arrangement? I heard so!

as long as they donīt see them it is ok, in my interview i had a burn in my forearm and they ask me about it, i just told the truth and i got through, but try to hide the scar with make-up or sth.

Swimming test
I have a few questions:
1. Do gulf air have swimming tests.
2. If they do have swimming test, do they allow you to go into the water with a life vest.
3. When you are in the pool swimming, what do you wear?

You swim 50m unaided i.e. no lifejacket (we were told that this will definitely be tested) you wear swimsuit then wear trousers of some description eg leggings, tracksuit bottoms - you want to wear something that is light weight material, then a long sleeve top not revealing at all. Really trendy...not!

hiya....good question as Iīve got in my papers sth that I should bring AS a swimsuit: trousers and T-shirt.....but as I as I know first will be tested the swimming only in the swimsuit ....? Am I wrong ?

i think the swimming test in middle east airlines is done in swimming clothes, i mean leggings and t shirt........as in case of ditching you will be wearing the uniform.........

Hi Sonja,
I have a question for you. I have a good friend here in Spain and she was offered the position with Gulf Air. First they told here, that she will made 3000usd a month and than they changed it to total salary of 1700 euros. They also want her to pay 350 euros just to start the visa process, and of course, they did not tell her about it before. I used to be a flight attendant as well, but now I am working as a pilot. I am from Czech originally as well. But I have never seen such a bad contract in my life (very unprofessionaly made), no mention of the recruitment company in it. The also said, that the company may change allowance rates any time they feel like it. Do you have the same experience on your interview? Anybody else has the same experience of contract companies lying to people just to get them? May be Gulf air is ok, but the guys who represent them are bad. Anybody else had to pay 350 euros just to start the visa applications? thanks!

Leaving To Bahrain On 29th November
i did interview in Barcelona and I had to pay 350 whatīs the problem?? we pay that for burocracy instead of the company. the salary is 3000 dollars=1700 euros.
now i have my visa and waiting for the ticket, i am very happy to go now as i am 2 months waiting for this.......

10 years ago, when I was a flight attendant, they were offerring in middle east about 4000 usd. But just to let you know, your exchange calculations are wrong.
3000usd=2328euro. 1700euro = 2191usd. So you guys are making much less. I am shocked, that they are able to find people. I am not saying this to put you down guys, I am just saying this, because something happened to the flight attendant jobs. It seems to be worse and worse. But of course, if it makes sense for you to go and work for such little money into middle east, it is your choice.

but my reason to work as cabin crew in the middle east is just because i love flying, i only have 6 months experience (nothing) and i am looking forward to fly again. i worked for qatar airways and despite short time there i was so happy.
i like the culture and lifestyle and everything.
and even if they didnīt pay me anything i would fly for free for them

Hi guys, I have just found out, that the 350 euro's, the company here in Barcelona is taking for visas, is illegal. Gulf Air does not know anything about it and it is just going into their pockets. There is nothing written about it in the contract. One flight attendant contacted Gulf Air and the guys were surprised about it. This local hiring contractor told the girl, that she was stupid to ask them and they told her, that she is out. Sounds little bit like a mafia. The way to fight the 350 euro is to contact Gulf Air, but don't necessary give them your name, so that the local contracting mafia does not know, who has done it. Gulf air was upset about it and said, that they will contact them about it.
If somebody is willing to work for free or does not care about contracts, than the this business goes down the drain.

Hiya....well...I am actually a bit shocked
as well as they didnīt tell us anything about 350 euros payment for Visa processing....not at all. Thereīs nothing in my contract either....donīt know where the info came from but I suspect that noone would even thought about joining Gulf Air if you have to pay for that. Visa is their "problem" and not ours....sorry for being a bit upset but I donīt really get it. I havenīt paid for anything yet.
My visa is ready now but unfortunately I am ill, so unable to fly at the moment and if everything goes well for me, would be on my way to Bahrain just before the New Yearīs Eve.
The only thing that is a bit strange is that everybody got a Welcoming package before visa and they sent out a Security Clearance. I got something like that from the interview...hopefully.... but last week I had a phone call from the Recruitment Team Manager asking if I want to fly out.....nothing about the fee for Visa.
It is a bit surprising.
To the salary: It is the same salary you would get in Czech airlines I guess. And...you donīt have to pay for your accommodation, transport to the airport etc. What more do you want. And of course...this is not forever, you can stay just for a couple of years....save some money, which you cannot do in the Czech at the mmt....and then come back. I would take it as an experience and maybe a bit of adventure...why not!!!

hi everyone, the famous 350 is not for the payment of the visa, Gulf Air doesnīt charge anything. that money is for the agency or broker in this case i talk about my interview in spain. at the end of the interview gulf air told us we had to pay that money to the agency because they donīt work for free, obviously.
the point is airlines like emirates, etihad, qatar airways pay the agency.
at least in spain, gulf air it doesnīt, so candidates have to pay it.thatīs all!!!!!!!

Hi,
I am currently 17 hoping to aquire a job as cabin crew next year.
I just have a few questions.
1. The website says you have to be 20, but I have many friends that got the job when they were 18...and I asked many pilots as well as other employees and they told me 18 as well. So I was wondering what the age requirements are?
2. Do you have to have a college or universitty degree? and if not...do they count a G.E.D (general education degree) as a highschool qualification?

You have to be 20 if you wanna join the Gulf Air, I am not sure about the Emirates, but maybe even 21...but check their website. The British Airways, Air France, Spainair....probably 19. But also check the internet.
Usually the Middle East (ME) require more mature person, on the other hand the European airlines want a proven Customer service experience!!!! Also you have to match other requirements
....at least when it comes to ME...definitely your height and weight is important and donīt get tattoos on your hands, legs and neck...or visible scars. But probably you know that. It varies from airlines to airlines.
The High School is okay. Donīt need a University degree or any kind of course. Just that you are able to learn and understand....and of course able to pass the interview!!!!!!
However sometimes they do require things like GCSC from Math at least level C!!!!! but not all the airlines, the ME donīt.
So, overall...you have plenty of time!!! Do not rush it, have a look on the internet and look for the airlines in your location or somewhere youīre planning to live.
