SBAC display Radlett?
|
Sorry for the delay chaps. I've been crossing the Pacific - another COVID-19 refugee returning home. Wearing a mask for 20 hours is very unpleasant.
Auxtank has it - an air display at Jurby in 1950. Here's a Mosquito beat-up - with real bombs or just pyrotechnics? https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....98189356d7.jpg More pictures on Jim Harris' very interesting site - I think it would particularly appeal to Air Traffickers: Isle of Man Air Traffic Control in the 1950s |
Thanks India. Yes, anything longer than a couple of hours in a mask and one feels one knows oneself a little too well!
Here we are then chaps... https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....8e2aba632c.png |
WWI France perhaps?
|
nvubu,
When SMOKEON suggested Hailakandi Airfield, India, you said no. I have found this USAAF photo of your image. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....4ef9342ca8.jpg |

Just `backtracking` a bit to #18641,in the middle of the photo is a kid running wildly about, later to be known as `sycamore`,with 5/- ,ready for his first flight in a Rapide.....
|
Excellent sycamore.
|
But wouldn't sycamore have been about 20 when that photo was taken ? :p
|
Is the airfield still in use?
|
Asters - Non.
|
dook - you may well be correct seeing the source on your image. My source has the image taken at Warazup on 19th April 1945. SMOKEON got the correct airfield in the end so nothing lost at the end of the day.
|
The previous challenge was resolved.
nvubu, It just proves that conflicting sources sometimes lead to someone giving the wrong answer. |
As dook says, the previous challenge has been solved (in an Inspector Clouseau voice), Over the years I've had a couple like this - my sources says one thing, another source something else.
Full steam ahead with your challenge Auxtank. |
The same thing happened to me today when looking for the flying machine challenge.

just found this again... dook,if I`d been 20 then,I`d likely have been flying one of the Mosquitos, rather than just wishing I was..... What you can`t see on that photo is an RN Avenger parked around the corner of the hangars ,possibly because it was an RAF airshow.. Some 54 yrs later `Admiral Aloysious Fudnucker USN(aka an older `sycamore) displayed an ex-USN Avenger there at the last airshow at Jurby….!! |
Asters is correct in that it is WWI France
|
Looks very substantial - 1918??
|
Was very busy from 1915 - 1918 and in 1919 was ploughed over.
Nothing to see there now - Mumms the word ! Another angle... https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....6124d4f019.jpg |
