Good morning/afternoon/evening all.
I can confirm that sycamore has correctly identified Belize. |
Here's a strip that a friend of mine occasionally flies his Chipmunk to, for lunch:

On a hunch it's your part of the world I Goggled "canada golf course airstrip".
Looks like Sandpiper Golf Course BC. |
My post concerning the correct identification of Sandpiper/Rowena's airstrip was deleted, so for the record, now that 24 hours has safely passed, I can repost my follow-up photo, which would have narrowed it down:

Thank you I42.
Open House. |
Welcome KJ - I was the same a number of years ago, and had no clue where any of the aerodromes was - and then I solved my first one and posted my first challenge, which was identified very quickly :(
Here's the next aerodrome. https://04vq8g.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
Somewhere pretty cold, looking at the covers on the ground and the heaters...Aleutians...?
|
Yes, it can get cold here, but it isn't in the Aleutians

I'm torn between two possible areas - somewhere in North America or somewhere in China, like Kunming.
|
Do these help you decide which area?

I doubt there were B-17s or P-38s in China. Even though it’s not the Aleutians, I’m tempted by the idea of Alaska. |

India 42s temptations are correct.
Yet more aircraft types at this location. https://chuwoa.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none https://bqcklq.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
Lots of choices in Alaska, but I think, given the plethora of aircraft, this must be one of the bigger ones. My first guess is the first USAAF airfield in Alaska - Elmendorf.
|
Ah ha, you have picked up on the huge variety of aircraft - I've not seen so many different types at an airfield before. However it isn't Elmendorf.
These people were also there. https://nxc7ua.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
Ah ha, I wondered if Russians might be involved! I was looking for Red Stars on the photos you posted.
So is this one of the Northwest Staging Route airfields? Possibly Ladd Army Airfield at Fairbanks? |
I thought that the image with the Russians might help, and you have it with Ladd Army Airfield at Fairbanks. Over to you.
My next image would have been aircraft with red stars on them - see not always cold. https://lvtnga.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none Ladd was the cold weather testing airfield - hence the wide variety of aircraft. This is my favourite image - and would have been the last clue. https://bqcjlq.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none |
nvubu, a great challenge. I learned a lot in the process of tracking it down. Once you showed the Russians doing a pre-flight, I guessed Ladd, because I had read that this was where Russian crews took over the Lend-Lease aircraft. Re your last image - you don’t need to go to Alaska for conditions like that. I’ve seen similar ice-fog in southern Alberta! I have a challenge on my computer. Please standby. |
