Rather grim strip but looks as if a lot of buildings have been removed - and a lovely looking road around it .... are we in S E Asia again?
|
There never were many buildings there.
We're a long way from SE Asia and it is occasionally still in use by certain aircraft types. |
not much in the way of rubber or landing marks ... so light aircraft? And that loop off the road is v interesting......... some small ?craters? off the right end of the runway center line??
Assume north is to the top the picture was taken at 15:00 ish N hemisphere with quite long shadows - so middling to north-ish latitudes?? Is that a river or the sea bottom left? |
It is orientated to true north.
There are no craters there as far as I know. To the bottom left is a small inlet and we are less than a mile from the sea. Not light aircraft - purely military. The absence of rubber or landing marks is because of helicopter and VTOL jets. Who still operates VTOL jets ? Latitude south of the 40th parallel and I think the road loop is for access by vehicles such as fuel bowsers. |
I'm starting to think of the USMC at Cherry Point, N Carolina, as the base and this as an outlier...................
|
You are thinking extremely well - we are 54 km away...……
And it is USMC. |
Not sure of its actual name but it's on Mile Hammock Bay in Camp Lejeune east of Sneads ferry?
