I suspect its a VERY CUNNING CLUE - Jenkins will not take offence I'm sure if I say he sometimes has a mind like a cork-screw..............
Is in modern Greece? |
I go to Greece on holiday every year, as J. Has realised. Found thousands of Tiger Moths on Paros one year. It was their breeding season.
Mind you I go to other places on holiday as well. |
Did you go to Jockistan for this one...?
Not Jockistan
Somewhere reasonably civilised as they paint white lines down the side of the road but those trees look a bit dangerous............. UK?
You think the trees are dangerous? The road signs warn that the road may be slippery, but don't mention the possibility of an aircraft skimming over the road. Not U.K.
Germany??? |
It does look as if it could be Germany or Scotland, but it is neither.
Let's go further afield. New Zealand?
He said it was in Europe in post #17969 - Austria perhaps?
Head South
Back in Ferrari` country then...?
Italy it is.
perhaps another picture? There are dozens of small airfields in Italy...............
I do not have another photo, and anything I lift from Giggle would be too easy to trace.
I will give more clues between now and Monday, when I shall be off line for a week. If no one has it by then I will give the answer and declare OH. It is a club airfield in Tuscany |
Could be Viterbo but that looks too large?
Just a bit. This is a single grass strip 12/30, 715 M long. The road, which is seen in the photo, is 10 M above the level of the 12 threshold. Just as well they don't have double decker buses in Italy.
I once watched a 747 land at Kai Tak just as a very large and tall load drove over the fly-over at the end of the runway - it looked horribly, horribly close.................
Aviosuperficie Valdera has the right strip but not matching trees and hangar???? |
Not Valdera. It has only been open a few years.
Avioclub Siena Chiusdino? |
S L B you are spot on. All yours.
Thanks, I could not find it on Google maps. Probably old photos can you send a map link? Now this: Does it count as an Aerodrome? https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....72903c767.jpeg |
Thanks I now see my fault in copying the coordinates into Gmaps |
SLB will it clear 50 ft?
I guess the site is 100x50ft but certainly not clear! |
That’s an Iskra TS-11 sitting in the weeds. Are we therefore in Poland? |
Poland indeed. Bonus points for the person who can tell why it is in the weeds. |
Well here it is, 52.18858719N 23.02934837E , near a village called Wolka Nosowska. Close up image here(A Kalinowski): Twoje forum lotnictwa lotnictwo.net.pl - PZL-Mielec TS-11 Iskrabis - 311 - 1H-0311 - Poland: Other location - Wólka Nosowska( ) | Aleksander Kalinowski (EPBC Spotters)
No idea what it is doing there, nor what, if any, airfield is assocaiated! |

The village leader of the village of Arkadiusz Romaniuk in an interview with Onet journalists explained that the machine was on a private property and was bought several years ago from the airport in Biała Podlaska as a decoration. |
Welcome back ASW! That the correct answer! You have control. Asturias gets the bonus points. On some sites it is suggested that the plane was put there as radar testing target. But I thought that unlikely as there is space enough on Military ground to do radar testing. The plane is on a semi buried storage cellar which explains that they plough around it https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....b8e2e7cda.jpeg |

Thank you SLB, this one certainly is of an aerodrome, and even has my Mum in it! |
UK? Benson pops into mind but I can't think why....
UK is correct, not Benson.
Kenley, 1978(ish) - if it is, I was probably in one of those tents on the right.
Getting warmer nvubu, right decade, right county.
Mum & I were both at the 1978 Kenley event. |
Slope on r/w may be Biggin Hill...?
Bravo, sycamore has it Biggin Hill it is. This is a post Air Fair shot taken in 1972 when Sportair flying club were about to depart for the annual trip to the Sportavia Fournier factory in Germany. Aircraft are lined up along the edge of runway 29/11 looking West towards the then still active (OASC) RAF side, not too far from where the below image was taken.
You have the Christmas control. https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....3106cd211c.jpg |
Sorry ,nothing available,so I suggest you `Open Chimneys`,and see what drops in...Merry Christmas all....!!
