Sheikh Othman?

nvubu 26th Nov 2019 20:56

Evening Jenkins, we aren't in Aden this evening.

nvubu 27th Nov 2019 10:49

Here's another view

Asturias56 27th Nov 2019 11:42

Aircobra's? Middle East?N Africa?

ea200 27th Nov 2019 11:54

Or Italy. Naples?

nvubu 27th Nov 2019 11:56

We aren't in Europe or North Africa.

Asturias56 27th Nov 2019 12:41

S Pacific then - may be the Solomons?

sycamore 27th Nov 2019 13:54

Ahhh,so ,Lt Yamaha..you surrendered from a Kamikazi unit ,because you wanted to ride a flathead Hairy-Davidson....? You must be a real Samurai to want that...!!

nvubu 27th Nov 2019 14:26

I thought that you might think that when you saw a flag looking like that :p

This is nothing to do with the Pacific war - and no Japanese here.

nvubu 27th Nov 2019 15:48

Red Star? Delivery to Russia. Somewhere in the Middle East?

Asturias56 27th Nov 2019 16:26

Just noticed I asked "Aircobra's? Middle East?N Africa?" and Nvubu answered "not Europe or N Africa " - but not India or east of India so it looks like Middle East - the only issue I have is that almost all deliveries of the Aircobra to Russia went via Alaska I think but the lads in the picture above the Red Star look like they 're in Pakistan or similar.......

Habbaniyah?

ea200 27th Nov 2019 16:54

I'll have a stab at Abadan.

nvubu 27th Nov 2019 17:56

aa200 has it with Abadan in Iran - you have control.

I thought that my last image would be quite a clue as you didn't spot the Russian shoulder boards on the pith helmet picture :) - and I deliberately missed out "Middle East" on the Aircobra post but responded in the negative to all the other suggestions to see if it was picked up on as I had the misleading "Japanese flag" image to misdirect you. My source has this flag as a Russian Naval banner.

I came across the Lend Lease Russian deliveries from here when researching my previous Alaskan posting and thought the challenge would last a while.

Here are some more images I had lined up.

Thanks nvubu. Kept following the P39 trail from the first picture. Never found the flag but I knew it wasn't the Japanese as it's offset. After my Napoli guess realised you hadn't ruled out the Middle East and the Russian link led me to Abadan. Interesting research.

Nothing to hand and will be out for a few hours so OH I'm afraid.

Asturias56 27th Nov 2019 20:58

Cunning , very cunning...................

Asturias56 28th Nov 2019 07:29

Nothing overnight so here's one to try................

JENKINS 28th Nov 2019 09:38

The 'Penney' has dropped, Aldermaston? First visited early 50's with maternal grandparents; uncle there, I later realised, was a very early nuclear boffin, and the 'Tube Alloys' in which my grandparents believed were but a cover for the true activities. Village was then delightfully sleepy.

chevvron 28th Nov 2019 17:34

Hampstead Norris?

I think so.....

Jenkins has it - Aldermaston - now the Atomic weapons Establishment.......

JENKINS 29th Nov 2019 09:56

Thanks. Now I fear that due to circs completely beyond my control I must declare Open House. Sorry for delay.

Several USAAF fields along the Kennet/Avon line. Ramsbury, Welford, Greenman Condom, Membury, and so on. Also several memorials to various American units, one beautifully placed on the hills South of Hungerford.

And now, they are coming to take me away.

Asturias56 29th Nov 2019 13:43

Don't worry - you'll have plenty of company from PPrune in your new home.............

As it is OH:

I wonder if they have used a color filter on this photo:
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....2c3be2c46.jpeg

Asturias56 29th Nov 2019 16:19

I hope so - those are not colours seen in nature - at least not at that intensity

Are we in Europe?

dixi188 29th Nov 2019 17:15

I seem to recall the mud around Sedona AZ is that sort of colour in bright sunshine.
Runway heading is wrong though.

Self loading bear 29th Nov 2019 17:57

Sedona is closer than Europe

Self loading bear 30th Nov 2019 12:52

I think a clue is required:
Once commercial now managed by the local city.

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....808eff133.jpeg
and the colors look a bit more natural on the other side of the runway.

Asturias56 30th Nov 2019 15:10

Are we in the Lone Star State? - not much in the way of hills visible

Self loading bear 30th Nov 2019 21:03

no it isn’t The lone star state.
I visited Houston once for the offshore exhibition.
Personally I think one star is about the maximum achievable.
But we are in the USA

India Four Two 30th Nov 2019 22:30

SLB, as a former resident of The Lone Star State, I have to say “Them’s fightin’ words!” :)

oldpax 1st Dec 2019 04:15

I have seen Shackeltons do that!In fact I have been in a shackelton doing it! what an experience!!

Asturias56 1st Dec 2019 07:57

Are we in the Confederacy?

Self loading bear 1st Dec 2019 09:15

So amazing how easy to pull some flak!
Nice videos!
As for the Shackletons: if there is no YouTube video or you don’t have the T-shirt, then there is no proof!

Yes we are in Confederate country.

Asturias56 1st Dec 2019 11:18

Looked like Florida, Arkansas or Georgia - thought I'd got it at Bessemer, Alabama but it isn't

Self loading bear 1st Dec 2019 14:08

5 states down

My challenge lasts longer on this playground than last time.

Hen Ddraig 1st Dec 2019 23:29

HD

oldpax 2nd Dec 2019 01:00

If I can figure out how to put a photo on here I have one!!The time I was in one was in Sri Lank and I was looking into the control tower!! Only groundcrew mind!

Self loading bear 2nd Dec 2019 05:04

Hen dgraig has the right answer with Spartanburg Memorial.
I posted Spartanburg before with the control tower/tobogan in the playground.

OH is called.

Old Pax it is not difficult there is some guidance in the FAQ part of the website.
It is easiest when you already have the file on your own computer/ telephone.
I always make a screenshot of the picture to be in the correct range of file size and it avoids any file info to be transferred.
