Aerodrome de Laval Entrammes

dook 11th May 2019 19:07

Aeroport de Laval ?

Flap40 11th May 2019 19:09

SLB wins by a minute.

I had a total of 88hrs flying experience when this picture was taken. Currently the logbook says 14,421hrs.

Thanks Flap,
Nice way of giving a clue.
Dit not see the last question about pays de Loire.
as I was looking around Fougeres.

Now this inspired by Courchevel:

This image looks computer generated. :*

Google earth pro
It has the normal overhead photos laid over the terrain heights with 3D generated buildings.
Amazing isn’t it?

sycamore 12th May 2019 09:38

In Europe or somewhere else, far away...?

Self loading bear 12th May 2019 10:16

Europe indeed

dook 12th May 2019 12:11

Zermatt ?..

Self loading bear 12th May 2019 13:50

No die Schweiss was neutral in WW2.

dook 12th May 2019 14:15

Where does WW2 come into this ?

Self loading bear 12th May 2019 14:26

Just another clue
use it!

dook 12th May 2019 14:36

I assume you are pointing to Deutschland.

nvubu 12th May 2019 14:47

Hotel Campo Imperatore

Self loading bear 12th May 2019 14:47

No although it is Luftwaffe related

nvubu 12th May 2019 16:16

Thank you. I couldn't see an airfield, and the WW2 link and the Axis made me think of the raid to release Il Duce.

Here's the next challenge
https://oengyg.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none

dook 12th May 2019 16:28

I couldn't see an airfield either because it wasn't one !!

India Four Two 12th May 2019 16:47

Italy? Is that a Liberator poking its nose in?

dook 12th May 2019 17:29

Any connection with the Battle of Salamaua ?

nvubu 12th May 2019 17:32

It isn't Italy, but it is a Liberator, and nothing to do with the Battle of Salamaua

dook 12th May 2019 17:48

Pacific ?..

kaikohe76 12th May 2019 19:27

The position & lay out of the Airfield seems not unlike Ras al Haad in Oman, but the terrain inland would count this out.

nvubu 12th May 2019 19:44

Laiohe76 - looks like Ras al Haad doesn't it, but as you said, the terrain inland isn't a match.
However, dook does have a hit with the Pacific.

dook 12th May 2019 19:50

I have been looking at the Philippines with no luck.

I have noticed something unusual about the airfield.

nvubu 12th May 2019 19:52

you wouldn't have any luck in that location.

You do know how this is going to end don't you? You'll narrow it down and then ……….. :)

dook 12th May 2019 19:53

Yes - so I'll shut up and wait...…...

nvubu 12th May 2019 20:06

You can't stop now.

What's the unusual thing you've noticed?

Does this make it clearer? (very much larger image)

dook 12th May 2019 20:11

I'm not saying, but it doesn't help in my search.

sycamore 12th May 2019 21:45

In the course of `travels around the Pacific`,this;"zeamerseagerbeavers.com" ,might help....

nvubu 12th May 2019 21:55

sycamore - not sure what that means?

dook 13th May 2019 08:29

I'm not sure either.

Some parts allude to Papua New Guinea but I've looked there, and there are also references to Australia.

nvubu 13th May 2019 08:37

I'll put us out of our misery, in that the airfield is in neither of those locations.

dook 13th May 2019 08:42

New Caledonia ?

edit: is the Liberator from the Seventh Air Force ?

I have looked into the website
Jay Zeamer’s Eager Beavers
But not much is revealed in the limited amount of photos that are accessible.
Mentio to be Operating mainly in Solomon Islands
New Ireland?

SLB

nvubu 13th May 2019 10:54

Not New Caledonia.

The Eager beavers are not a clue posted by me, so as far as I'm aware they have nothing to do with this image, so not Solomon Islands, or New Ireland.

The Liberator is not from the 7th Air Force.

dook 13th May 2019 11:01

I'm still on the case.

Fifth Air Force ?

edit: are we near Yap ?

I wonder if the photo is from December 1943

What I saw in the photo last night is a lake in the middle of the airfield.

nvubu 13th May 2019 11:46

Not 5th Air Force either
Not Yap.

I'm fairly sure that the photo is later than 1943.

dook 13th May 2019 12:38

It is more than probable that the challenge is an island being used as a navigation waypoint between the operating base and a target so are we closer to Japan ?

13th Air Force ?
