I have checked some factory airfields I have found on the web. But no succes. I take it that there is an airfield around those garden tables? |
The distance/time measurement is precise with regard to time but very woolly on distance - but it's quite well known to even the average man-in-the -street
The airport is quite substantial - but has a wide range of users - its not just a factory airport and in fact , as I said, I'm not sure they currently produce whole air-frames any more https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....7c701d36fc.jpg |
Three main runways - up to 10,000ft long (not all three)

Finally, looking at Locations of Spirit aerosystems Tulsa Oklahoma No idea about time and distance though. I am out tomorrow Somebody else can do the fireworks. OH. |
Now I see Tulsa Time by Don Williams and also Eric Clapton 1978 that’s only 42 years. You said over 50 years They are not so much backwards over there. |
Gene Pitney - "24 hours from Tulsa"
But correct - once a monster aircraft factory as well .................. Someone else can have a go.................. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....abe538b10b.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1925f3c85d.jpg |
Happy New Year everyone. Where’s this? From a time when helicopters were thought to be the buses of the future. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....5bb434fd1.jpeg |
That looks horribly like the British countryside - if so perhaps it's a civvie Westland WS51 Dragonfly
I found this clip from the Dark Ages................ |
Yes, we’re in Britain and it’s a Dragonfly. I note they didn’t mention any of the drawbacks of helicopter travel in the documentary! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....43be13f6e.jpeg |
http://e-space.mmu.ac.uk/610692/2/Dr...iety_paper.pdf has a lot on Urban plans in the '50's
but search on UK eventually brought up Birmingham https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hay_Mills_Rotor_Station which was apparenly in use 1951-54 -ish................. https://birminghamhistory.co.uk/foru...station.21825/ Lets wait until 2020 for the next challenge!!! |
Well done, Sherlock!
I love the name Rotor Station. Here's a bigger picture and the equivalent GE view. The bridge carries Yardley Green Road over the River Cole: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....c8c72ea1b1.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....bde8d51885.png I'm not sure if Asturias has declared Open House. |
Lets start 2020 with a relatively new airport......................

St Helena?
Well you said 'relatively new'; it looks more like Cancun though! |

The name could be confusing though; in the same period, the name 'ROTOR Station' referred to a chain of supposedly secret RAF air defence radar stations. |
Berlin Brandenburg which is set to open this year? |
Long way south of Berlin - sunnier climes...... here's the welcoming committee

Same red carpet is used in Cameroon, I will go for Nsimalen Yaounde, although no matching terminal building found. |

I found the same edge pattern of the red carpet at the pope’s visit: https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....d809f1996.jpeg New challenge coming up is a few hours. |
The next challenge is to my liking and to another regular poster’s liking: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....f6dda21a1.jpeg |
UK, ex-FAA as it looks like four runways (one hidden in the grass), plus Robbin(?) hangars in the old technical area. Apart from that I'm stuck.
|
All good answers. Let throw in some aircraft ID: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....6da928f9d.jpeg |
St Merryn of course...
|
I would have expected MReyn24050 to drop by. I never would have thought to find an airfield with my First name; Merijn. But finding one being a saint is way to much. Kit has control. (I answered your pm, i cannot open the link) |
Roger. Open house I’m afraid. I’ll attend to that tomorrow.
|
OK - over 24 hours gone - here's another relatively modern (less than 50 years old) spot

At 17 he joined the British Interplanetary Society, an organisation then widely regarded as crackpot, but of which he was later to be treasurer and, eventually, chairman. In the civil service his mathematical ability took him into the audit branch. But, after the outbreak of the second world war, he opted to join the RAF where, via electronics training, he became an instructor at radio school. Finally he went to work on the development and proving of American ground control approach - talk-down - radar at Davidstow Moor in north Cornwall, a system which pilots never liked because it robbed them of control until the last moments. |

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....745c6b11bc.jpg Probably your own photo? Which I always appreciate! But not much to go on. Except that we can rule out the Netherlands and Sr Merryn Do you have more clues? |
Is that a Flybe Dash 8?
(No, can't be, it's too clean) |
No pictures of the Pope's carpet here Bear.... dixi is correct as to aircraft type and also that it's far too clean to be Flybe - which is a clue in it's own right....... :ok:

Tsushima Yamaneko Airport

Thank you. Open House.
|
Here's an easy one to keep things going. I've always liked the runway symmetry at this airport.

Edmonton International Airport, CYEG, Alberta, Canada.
|
In summer too!!! :E
|
Do I wait for India Four Two's go ahead, or do I post a new challenge?
