Belize Municipal .....(from about 2005)....Confirmed from OP, from telecon... OPEN HOUSE .....

dook 7th Nov 2019 11:06

Good morning/afternoon/evening all.

I can confirm that sycamore has correctly identified Belize.

India Four Two 7th Nov 2019 21:38

Here's a strip that a friend of mine occasionally flies his Chipmunk to, for lunch:

On a hunch it's your part of the world I Goggled "canada golf course airstrip".

Looks like Sandpiper Golf Course BC.

India Four Two 9th Nov 2019 11:43

My post concerning the correct identification of Sandpiper/Rowena's airstrip was deleted, so for the record, now that 24 hours has safely passed, I can repost my follow-up photo, which would have narrowed it down:

and a location image, for those interested:

Thank you I42.

Open House.

nvubu 10th Nov 2019 06:37

Welcome KJ - I was the same a number of years ago, and had no clue where any of the aerodromes was - and then I solved my first one and posted my first challenge, which was identified very quickly :(

Here's the next aerodrome.

Somewhere pretty cold, looking at the covers on the ground and the heaters...Aleutians...?

nvubu 10th Nov 2019 13:59

Yes, it can get cold here, but it isn't in the Aleutians

India Four Two 11th Nov 2019 05:13

I'm torn between two possible areas - somewhere in North America or somewhere in China, like Kunming.

nvubu 11th Nov 2019 06:43

Do these help you decide which area?

I doubt there were B-17s or P-38s in China.

Even though it’s not the Aleutians, I’m tempted by the idea of Alaska.

What about Greenland?

nvubu 12th Nov 2019 06:27

India 42s temptations are correct.

Yet more aircraft types at this location.

India Four Two 12th Nov 2019 06:39

Lots of choices in Alaska, but I think, given the plethora of aircraft, this must be one of the bigger ones. My first guess is the first USAAF airfield in Alaska - Elmendorf.

nvubu 12th Nov 2019 06:49

Ah ha, you have picked up on the huge variety of aircraft - I've not seen so many different types at an airfield before. However it isn't Elmendorf.

These people were also there.

India Four Two 12th Nov 2019 08:11

Ah ha, I wondered if Russians might be involved! I was looking for Red Stars on the photos you posted.

So is this one of the Northwest Staging Route airfields? Possibly Ladd Army Airfield at Fairbanks?

nvubu 12th Nov 2019 08:57

I thought that the image with the Russians might help, and you have it with Ladd Army Airfield at Fairbanks. Over to you.

My next image would have been aircraft with red stars on them - see not always cold.
https://lvtnga.bn.files.1drv.com/y4m...&cropmode=none

Ladd was the cold weather testing airfield - hence the wide variety of aircraft.

This is my favourite image - and would have been the last clue.

India Four Two 12th Nov 2019 12:44

nvubu, a great challenge. I learned a lot in the process of tracking it down.

Once you showed the Russians doing a pre-flight, I guessed Ladd, because I had read that this was where Russian crews took over the Lend-Lease aircraft.

Re your last image - you don’t need to go to Alaska for conditions like that. I’ve seen similar ice-fog in southern Alberta!

I have a challenge on my computer. Please standby.

India Four Two 12th Nov 2019 13:39

It's not winter here:

Asturias56 12th Nov 2019 15:31

Are we in Europe? I thought it might be Sion in Switzerland but this is all grass and the railway runs on thw opposite side of the field to the main road.

India Four Two 12th Nov 2019 22:01

Not Europe, no matter how you define it. ;)

Asturias56 13th Nov 2019 07:31

Well I did suspect that the Swiss flag on the cap was a distraction.

Let us see - v steep river valleys but a lot of development and a railroad - so not S Island New Zealand. Truck (left hand side hallway up) on right hand side of the road. So it's probably the America's. Looks too neat & tidy for C Chile so maybe USA or Canada.

Very steep valleys and big mountains - doesn't look like Appalchia to me - very straight valley - Rocky Mountain eastern side looks possible - but not way out in the sticks - too neat and tidy

Jamesel 13th Nov 2019 10:34

Faint Hope of finding it on the EAST side of the Rockies.... Was the photo taken from a CJ6?

Asturias56 13th Nov 2019 12:02

Sorry , I meant the Eastern Rockies. It looks a pretty well off area from the picture.

And there's a railroad which should help.

India Four Two 13th Nov 2019 13:09

Jamesl, faint Hope of it being a CJ6 - another tandem two-seater.

Asturias, not the Rockies, but west of them. I confess to some legerdemain concerning the flag, to try and put you off the scent!

ea200 13th Nov 2019 15:14

Hope Regional Airpark?

India Four Two 13th Nov 2019 23:10

ea200,

I had to look that up, because I had not heard that name before, but you are correct. I know it just as Hope airfield, home to the Vancouver Soaring Association.

I also discovered something about it that I did not know - 737 grass runway trials!

For Jamesl's benefit, the picture was taken from a Chipmunk back seat and I'm surprised that Asturias didn't pick up on your "Faint Hope" clue. :)

ea200 has control.

Thanks IF2. After being led astray by your flag ploy, I went for the railway line as being the line through Kamloops. Found it fairly easily after that.

Here's a nice bit of architecture.

I42 Brilliant video thanks for sharing

Asturias56 14th Nov 2019 14:08

Googling ATC towers shows just how architects let their imaginations run riot (have you seen Edmonton??).

Let's guess at N America?

ea200 14th Nov 2019 14:24

Not N America. Head East.

sycamore 14th Nov 2019 14:28

Middle East or Far East.....?

ea200 14th Nov 2019 14:36

I see what you mean about Edmonton. Impressive.

ea200 14th Nov 2019 14:37

Neither of those Sycamore.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....069e70b821.jpg

Time for an overhead perhaps

Asturias56 14th Nov 2019 17:19

are we in Europe?

has a vaguely E European air to it - all those multi-storey blocks of apartments.

ea200 14th Nov 2019 17:43

Know what you mean but it's not Europe. Yes, there are plenty of apartment blocks in the new parts of town but also lots of old buildings elsewhere.

Many historical European connections hereabouts.

India Four Two 14th Nov 2019 17:59

North Africa?

ea200 14th Nov 2019 18:12

Not any part of Africa.
