It's not the old RAF base.
|
Yes, it is the new airport at Riyan, Yemen. I am not sure if the tower was there when I flew from that airfield in the early 90s. I was in a Zimex Turbo Porter, which we used to do a geological tour of Wadi Hadhramaut – spectacular scenery. On the way from Mukalla, we passed the old airfield which was littered with decoy Il-28s, a reminder of the recent Civil War. if that doesn't make your blood freeze nothing will sycamore has the cyclic and collective. |
sycamore called OH.
You have the cockpit thread. |
dook, that was my next stop. :) |
|
Looks like a USA style aeropark or whatever they're called, where people have houses next to the runway so they can taxy to/from their own hangar.
|
USA indeed.
Sounds Scottish. |
Middle,N,S E W...?
|
West coast.
edit: the view is to the east. edit 2: it's a private airstrip with no ATC facilities or other services. |
Ock Aye the Noo,Jimmy,`tis Bonny Doon there.......OH if correct

Aye wee Jimmi - Bonny Doon it is. Well found. :ok:
sycamore has called OH. |
As we have an open house: I promised to join in and take up an open slot: https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....71586ebcc.jpeg However I might not be able to answer al your queries right away. |
Switzerland ?
|
Not Switzerland but you are in the right continent |
Austria then ?
|
|
Dunno - Germany or Luxembourg ?
|
The flag has `YPRES` on it with maybe an O before the Y,but can`t find any airfield near Ypres; are we in Belgium....?
|
Dumbo here didn't notice that.
|
Thought Jag pilots had eyesight like `hi&&*^se rats...sorry ,you were a bomber pilot ,not LLFR.....
|
Oi - I 've also got time on something which didn't drop bombs !
|
Oops flag not scratched out.
It is not near Ypres. flag says probably .... perles |
Is this a grass airstrip ?
I think Perles is a red herring. |
Can you answer my post at #17297 - I think you missed it.
|
It is indeed a grass strip and the perles is not a herring https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....526d6d4a1.jpeg |
Well, I reckon it's Germany or Luxembourg.
|
On GE, just looked for Perle. It's a town in Luxembourg and near there is an airfield which matches your overhead view.
It is called Noertrange. |
If you or anybody else would have read back my posting history you would have found that I had a busy time in Lux and that you would have to look out for challenges from that neighborhood. Noertrange (or Notringen) is indeed home to skydive club cvPerles. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....8a37d976f.jpeg Dook you can take up the next slot |
I don't look at posting history.

Does not look like an airfield with war history might even be post war? the roadmap of the city part nearby suggest architectural planning. European mainland? |
It opened in 1935 and finally closed in 1952.
It didn't really have a war role. Yes - mainland Europe. |
Looks rather French......or Italian
|
The former Monsieur.
It no longer exists. |
Was it in a suburb of PARIS...?
|
No. East of Paris.
It is now part of the town you can see. Would you like a GE view ? |
I`m sure it`s all swallowed up; GE would be nice
