No good touring GE with this one.
I wonder how many airports there are in Italia ! Should I eliminate Sicilia and Sardinia ? |
Lots of airports - and the y all look very similar ;)
This one is not on an island of any size... https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....20daff75b9.jpg Off line for a while - work calls..................... |
I can see nothing to help in the photograph so I'll check out and wait to see if we get a clue.
|
I sense we are coastal.
|
What makes you think that ?
I enlarged the far horizon thinking it's water but it isn't. |
Auxtank is correct - not far from the sea - not one of the oldest airfields in Italy built after WW1
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1f2ec6be85.jpg |
Most airports on the Italian coast are in the south but there are still lots of them.
Bari ? |
Or maybe St. Anna or Reggio Calabria.
It isn't Brindisi because that has the sea at either end of the runway. |
I don't think it was ever a military base per se though the military have used it..............

I'll shoot for Lamezia then.
|
Well I could be picky as its Lamezia Terre Sant' Euphemia but you've got it . It is used by the 2nd Helicopter Regiment but don't think it's a military base. One of the unsung heroes of bucket & spade airlines - built in the mid-60's from scratch - TBH I've never heard anyone say they've used it but it's seriously busy

Cheers.
I have had far too many up lately so it's time to offer a chance to someone else. Therefore OH. |
Surely not another GE.
|
THIS IS THE "OLD" RUNWAY
|
Middle East?
PS Dook - nothing wrong with GE ..................... or Forgotten Airfields........ ;) |
Asturias,
PM for you. |
I think dook's Middle East is a red herring.
I say Oz. |
But I didn't suggest Middle East at all. :ooh:
It was Asturias. |
Apologies dook. "My bad" - as they say.
p.s: It's very quiet around here - have there some momentous goings-on in the Kingdom that I don't know about? |
Not Australia.
Dook normally has a good opening geographical gambit but he was beaten to the post (excuse the pun) - ME is the region. MJG |
Israel maybe ?
|
The tower looks like the one at Erbil, Iraq, but I'm not holding any hopes.
|
certainly NOT Israel.
|
Did you miss my post above your last one ?
|
"CERTAINLY not Israel" eh?
So someone VERY anti-Israel.... I think that takes us to the Land of the Two Holy Places? Riyadh? |
I'm intrigued why you think that.
Where is the "old" runway ? There is no greenery at Riyadh - I know because I flew from Riyadh for five years. Also check out the tower. |
No idea - on my edition of GE the whole place is blanked out.......... and the tower looks like a subsidiary one maybe for ground control
I've been through the place but never thought to look at the details..... |
In my version of GE the image is loud and clear.
Have you thought of downloading the latest version? I still think it's Erbil. |
|
Dook - your post must have crossed mine. Apologies.
Yes it is Erbil. The new runway is 90,m x 5000 m. I posted it some time ago. The next clue was going to be the taxiway excursion ruts from a FedEx 727. |
Thank you mg.
This type of challenge is unusual for me. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....26875de2ca.jpg |
Can't be in the UK; you're allowed to park outside the terminal :)
|
Looks a bit more of a `monsoony` area....India,further East..?
|
Maybe Caribbean?
|
Certainly not a monsoon area or de Caribbean.
|
Based on the style of the building/tower and the bikes in front: Germany?
|
Not Germany either, but it is in Europe.
|
Netherlands??
|
No - further north.
|
Norway?....................
