No good touring GE with this one.

I wonder how many airports there are in Italia !

Should I eliminate Sicilia and Sardinia ?

Asturias56 23rd Jul 2019 10:58

Lots of airports - and the y all look very similar ;)

This one is not on an island of any size...

Off line for a while - work calls.....................

dook 23rd Jul 2019 11:29

I can see nothing to help in the photograph so I'll check out and wait to see if we get a clue.

Auxtank 23rd Jul 2019 12:17

I sense we are coastal.

dook 23rd Jul 2019 12:24

What makes you think that ?

I enlarged the far horizon thinking it's water but it isn't.

Asturias56 23rd Jul 2019 12:31

Auxtank is correct - not far from the sea - not one of the oldest airfields in Italy built after WW1

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/pprune....1f2ec6be85.jpg

dook 23rd Jul 2019 12:46

Most airports on the Italian coast are in the south but there are still lots of them.

Bari ?

dook 23rd Jul 2019 13:01

Or maybe St. Anna or Reggio Calabria.

It isn't Brindisi because that has the sea at either end of the runway.

Asturias56 23rd Jul 2019 13:27

I don't think it was ever a military base per se though the military have used it..............

dook 23rd Jul 2019 13:29

I'll shoot for Lamezia then.

Asturias56 23rd Jul 2019 13:56

Well I could be picky as its Lamezia Terre Sant' Euphemia but you've got it . It is used by the 2nd Helicopter Regiment but don't think it's a military base. One of the unsung heroes of bucket & spade airlines - built in the mid-60's from scratch - TBH I've never heard anyone say they've used it but it's seriously busy

Cheers.

I have had far too many up lately so it's time to offer a chance to someone else.

Therefore OH.

dook 23rd Jul 2019 18:32

Surely not another GE.

mgahan 24th Jul 2019 05:39

THIS IS THE "OLD" RUNWAY

Asturias56 24th Jul 2019 08:39

Middle East?

PS Dook - nothing wrong with GE ..................... or Forgotten Airfields........ ;)

dook 24th Jul 2019 08:56

Asturias,

PM for you.

Auxtank 24th Jul 2019 10:34

I think dook's Middle East is a red herring.

I say Oz.

dook 24th Jul 2019 11:09

But I didn't suggest Middle East at all. :ooh:

It was Asturias.

Auxtank 24th Jul 2019 13:41

Apologies dook. "My bad" - as they say.

p.s: It's very quiet around here - have there some momentous goings-on in the Kingdom that I don't know about?

mgahan 24th Jul 2019 19:07

Not Australia.

Dook normally has a good opening geographical gambit but he was beaten to the post (excuse the pun) - ME is the region.

MJG

dook 24th Jul 2019 19:24

Israel maybe ?

dook 24th Jul 2019 20:45

The tower looks like the one at Erbil, Iraq, but I'm not holding any hopes.

mgahan 24th Jul 2019 21:26

certainly NOT Israel.

dook 25th Jul 2019 08:24

Did you miss my post above your last one ?

Asturias56 25th Jul 2019 12:18

"CERTAINLY not Israel" eh?

So someone VERY anti-Israel.... I think that takes us to the Land of the Two Holy Places?

Riyadh?

dook 25th Jul 2019 12:34

I'm intrigued why you think that.

Where is the "old" runway ?

There is no greenery at Riyadh - I know because I flew from Riyadh for five years.

Also check out the tower.

Asturias56 25th Jul 2019 12:42

No idea - on my edition of GE the whole place is blanked out.......... and the tower looks like a subsidiary one maybe for ground control

I've been through the place but never thought to look at the details.....

dook 25th Jul 2019 12:51

In my version of GE the image is loud and clear.

Have you thought of downloading the latest version?

I still think it's Erbil.

dook 25th Jul 2019 12:54

Here's my GE image of King Khalid.

mgahan 25th Jul 2019 19:03

Dook - your post must have crossed mine. Apologies.

Yes it is Erbil. The new runway is 90,m x 5000 m. I posted it some time ago.

The next clue was going to be the taxiway excursion ruts from a FedEx 727.

dook 25th Jul 2019 20:32

Thank you mg.

This type of challenge is unusual for me.

jensdad 25th Jul 2019 22:23

Can't be in the UK; you're allowed to park outside the terminal :)

sycamore 25th Jul 2019 22:58

Looks a bit more of a `monsoony` area....India,further East..?

chevvron 26th Jul 2019 04:10

Maybe Caribbean?

dook 26th Jul 2019 08:20

Certainly not a monsoon area or de Caribbean.

Archer4 26th Jul 2019 12:19

Based on the style of the building/tower and the bikes in front: Germany?

dook 26th Jul 2019 12:32

Not Germany either, but it is in Europe.

Asturias56 26th Jul 2019 15:45

Netherlands??

dook 26th Jul 2019 15:51

No - further north.

Asturias56 26th Jul 2019 16:53

Norway?....................
